Today, I want to shed light on one of the trickiest and most vital aspects of building a new business - the landing page. Within moments a new visitor can turn into a paying customer or back up faster than Terry in his wheelchair.
In other businesses, I’ve spent multiple days working on and rewriting my product's landing page. I’m a developer, so by definition, I like to overcomplicate things. And that doesn’t help when trying to write clear and effective copy.
I need to be able to clearly explain the problem my product solves, how it solves it, and the benefits of having it solved. And I need to say all of that faster than an Indie hacker decides to launch a second or third business. 😅
I tend to get writer's block in these situations. Staring at a blank page not knowing where to start or what the best way to get my point across. After days of pushing through this, I’m usually left with a feeling of not knowing if I had spent my time on the right thing.
I think "I know it's an important part of the process, but shouldn’t I be actually building my product? I’ve already spent time interviewing customers for insights and I finally think I know how to solve their problem, but yet I’m stuck building a static webpage to collect emails when I should be building the damn thing." Thus the dilemma between building a product and creating a landing page.
After personally going through this cycle of mental gymnastics, I’ve finally decided to solve my own problem (What a concept!). My goal is to make it easy for people who suck at writing, like myself 👋, to create highly effective landing pages.
If you find yourself in a similar situation, it would be very helpful if you would answer some quick questions to help me tailor my solution to indie hackers like you.
