Startup Ideas: The Methodical 3-Step Process We Used to Validate Demand for Fieldboom
I've seen several startups use a similar process to breakdown idea validation.
In the article, they mention offering pre-launch demos and then tested if people would pay for lifetime access. One in three signed up and they quickly had 100 paying users.
Anyone here test something similar and if so, what were the results?
One of my favorite takeaways from this is "scratching your own itch" – by paying attention to what's happening in your own life and your own work to find a problem and generate a startup idea for a potential business. An absolutely brilliant idea for any entrepreneur!
You hear that advice A LOT but don't often see actual examples of it put into practice, like this one.
We did something similar with our SaaS app. We launched special pricing for our beta users and grandfathered them into that price.
The beta users helped us get feedback early on and validate our feature set as well as identify bugs in the product.
I really like the process outlined in this article. We spent a lot of time building the product prior to launching it. But I like the way this company validated their product and if people would pay for it first prior to spending a ton of time building it out.
Yea, the benefit of feedback is probably more valuable than the revenue. And a paid customer will be more dedicated to providing feedback.
Alternatively, we thought about testing lifetime access at an established niche SaaS I used to work at. One price, forever account with all features. Would have been offered to all new and existing customers. We didn't see the benefits outweighing the risks at the time.
