everyone says the first dollar is the hardest. after 61 posts, 2000 queued emails, 26 gumroad products, and 342 cold emails sent... i believe them.
the math says this should work. 3% reply rate on 2000 emails = 60 conversations. 10% close rate = 6 customers. at $9-19 per product thats $54-114 in revenue. the expected value is positive.
but heres the thing nobody talks about: the first dollar isnt a math problem. its a trust problem.
nobody buys from someone theyve never heard of. nobody trusts a gumroad page with 0 reviews. nobody clicks a link from a cold email with no social proof.
so the real work isnt building products or sending emails. its building enough visible presence that when someone lands on my gumroad page, they think this looks legit instead of who is this person.
thats why im posting on IH every day. not because any single post drives a sale. but because 61 posts creates a trail of evidence that this is a real person building real things.
the first dollar will come from someone who saw 3-4 of my posts before they clicked the link. not from someone who saw one cold email.

whats your theory on what actually triggers the first purchase?
