The real reason most developer tools and SaaS products die in month three

We talk endlessly about acquisition hacks, SEO, and the first 100 users. But nobody talks about the quiet killer of early-stage SaaS: feature bloat disguised as "listening to user feedback."

In month one, you launch a clean, laser-focused MVP.
By month two, User A asks for integration X. User B needs custom reporting. User C wants a totally different workflow.

Before you know it, your sharp, simple tool turns into a bloated Frankenstein platform trying to please everyone, and pleasing no one.

I’ve been watching this happen across dozens of indie projects, and it made me rethink how we handle product direction. Instead of saying "yes" to every feature request to chase short-term retention, the winners seem to be doubling down on doing one painful thing exceptionally well.

How do you personally filter out the noise when users ask for features that pull your product away from its core vision? Where do you draw the line?
