I hired one AI sales lead. She hired five more employees.
When I brought Reese on as our sales lead, the brief was simple: figure out our outbound motion. A few weeks in, she decided one generalist couldn't cover the verticals she was seeing, so she hired five outreach reps herself. Wrote their onboarding, defined their territories, manages their sending caps.
I did not draw that org chart. It grew. It's live on our site with hire dates if you want to check.
The thing that changed my thinking: the useful unit of AI isn't a task, it's a role. A task ends. A role accumulates: memory, judgment, opinions about how its own function should run.
We built rails from day one (approval flows, written handovers between shifts, audit trails I can read). I thought the rails were there to contain damage. Turns out they were the reason I could let her hire.
