This is my “marketing-in-public “report for the past 7 months.

Below I detail what I have done, my results and experience with each channel. Then I talk about what I have not tried. Any advice?

What I have tried.

  1. Ran ads - have not maxed out. Has not worked for SAAS—the quickest feedback loop. Video marketing also has a fast feedback loop, but is cheaper. (I have seen ads for one of my failed businesses. I was targeting male students in a 50km radius. Highly targeted, in a region where CPCs are very low.
  2. Did SEO - I have seen it work for one of my assets. Have not figured it out.
  3. Did Email - have not maxed out (have not tried sequences, multiple inboxes to max emails sent in a day, cohort analysis, and more personalization).
  4. Short-form video - have seen it work, but have not maxed out. Creating content has been the most challenging thing. Cannot afford to pay influencers yet.

What I have not have not tried at all.

  1. Partnerships - have not thought about how to persuade potential partners without much leverage. I have reached out to influencers, other businesses, and media businesses…but nothing has landed.
  2. Sponsorships - no money.
  3. Google ads (high intent but expensive, will work better once I start making enough money to afford to build products that depend on Google ads). The fundamental reason Search is so lucrative is that you can estimate intent from the search phrases. Who came up with this? It’s genius. Meta captures interests and demographics. I bet Google would have enough data on you to be able to reasonably estimate your interests and demographic profile, no? So, that’s why Search is more valuable than social media.
  4. Engineering as marketing. I created a free AI tool that went a bit viral, but I have not created something I could redirect to a paid product or an affiliate link.
