Update: SwiftMsg is Now a Web App + Meta Tech Provider

Hello Indie Hackers đź‘‹

A while back, I shared my first post about launching SwiftMsg as a Chrome extension for sending personalized WhatsApp messages through WhatsApp Web.

At the time, I was excited because it solved a real problem I was seeing around me: small businesses, schools, retailers, and entrepreneurs were spending so much time manually copying and pasting WhatsApp messages to customers.

The Chrome extension worked, and it helped me validate that the problem was real. But I quickly ran into a major issue: WhatsApp account restrictions and banning risks.

Because the extension relied on WhatsApp Web, it was not the most stable or scalable approach. Some sending patterns could trigger restrictions, and I realized that if I wanted SwiftMsg to become a serious product, I couldn’t build it on a workaround.

So I went back to the drawing board.

Instead of continuing with the Chrome extension, I rebuilt SwiftMsg as a proper web app using the official WhatsApp Business / Meta API route. That meant a lot more work, more complexity, and more learning than I expected, but it also made the product much more reliable and legitimate.

Since then, SwiftMsg has become a Meta-approved Tech Provider, and the product is now credit-based. Businesses can use SwiftMsg to automate WhatsApp reminders, notifications, and updates using the data they already manage.

The main use cases I’m focusing on are not spammy bulk campaigns, but practical operational messages like:

  • school fee reminders
  • order-ready notifications
  • delivery updates
  • appointment reminders
  • customer follow-ups

The idea is simple: many SMEs already manage their customers in spreadsheets or simple lists. SwiftMsg helps turn that data into automated WhatsApp communication without requiring complex software or developers.

Today, I’m happy to share that SwiftMsg Open Beta is now live 🚀

This still feels very early, but it also feels like a big step forward from where I started. The first version helped me learn what not to build. This version feels much closer to the real product.

I’d love for people here to check it out, test it, or simply give me honest feedback.

A few questions for the community:

  • How would you position this better for SMEs?
  • Would you start with one niche, like schools or retailers, instead of targeting SMEs generally?
  • Any advice on pricing a credit-based WhatsApp automation tool?
  • For those who moved from a hacky MVP to an official API-based product, what did you learn?

Thanks again to everyone building in public here. I’m still figuring this out, but I’m excited to keep sharing the journey.

P.S. We’re also working on API access soon, so businesses and developers will be able to plug SwiftMsg directly into their own systems and workflows.

The move to the official API seems like a meaningful product shift, not just an infrastructure change.

Have you found one use case—schools, retailers, reminders, etc.—where the willingness to pay is clearly stronger than the others?

    1. 1

Yes, definitely. The API shift made it feel less like a messaging shortcut and more like proper business communication infrastructure.

So far, schools and recurring reminders seem strongest because the pain is repetitive, high-volume, and tied to cash flow.

Retailers are interested too, but they seem more price-sensitive. Beta should help me confirm whether schools/reminders are the best first wedge.

That schools/reminders split sounds like a much stronger wedge than “business messaging” broadly. I’d be interested in digging into what actually makes those buyers willing to pay. What’s the best email to reach you on?

        1. 1

Absolutely, I’d be happy to discuss this further.

          Would appreciate your thoughts.

Thanks! I’ve just sent it over.

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts whenever you have a chance.
