We made the free tier a language, not a countdown.

Our dictation app transcribes English free, forever, with no account and no time limit. The one time unlock adds Spanish, French, Arabic, Urdu and Hindi.

Two things pushed us here. A time limited free period makes the product a countdown, and the person evaluating it spends that time deciding rather than working. And a feature crippled free tier teaches people the product is worse than it is. A whole language working properly, permanently, is a demonstration rather than a demo.

It also costs us almost nothing to honour. No account, no backend, no per user cost, because it runs on the machine. Free is only expensive when free users are a server bill.

It is a one time price when it lands, not a subscription. What I do not know yet is whether the people who need the other five languages are the same people who arrive for the free one, and I will post the answer when I have it.
