Website idea: A directory of gyms with MedX exercise equipment

A directory of gyms equipped with MedX exercise equipment across North America.

Why a directory of MedX equipment?

This equipment is difficult to search for. The best I could find is a now dead Excel spreadsheet:

And a list of trainers not gyms found here:

Searching by city with Google Maps with a query such as "gyms with MedX equipment Austin TX” returns okay results (Kelly Personal Training is the only correct match), but that search contains many false positives.

This type of training HIT (High Intensity Training) is easily confused with a similarly named training method called HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training). This confusion makes searches such as “HIT gyms in Austin TX” also difficult.

And finally, most searches of this type also return horrible sites with titles “Top 5 Gyms…” or “America’s best gyms..”, in other words SEO trash.

Who is this directory for?

A) People with lower back or neck pain who have already discovered strength training as a treatment and wish to continue their training.
B) People already accustomed to training under the HIT (High Intensity Training) protocol and wish to find gym with the best equipment.

How much to charge for access to this directory?

People looking for this type information are usually in physical pain, so paying 100 or 200 dollars is an acceptable cost and nothing compared to the money they have already wasted on bullshit solutions such as Chiropractic therapy.

A three tier pricing scheme could look like:

1. $100 dollars for life-time access to your city (say Austin, TX) with a 150 mile radius
2. $150 dollars for your city plus a 300 mile radius
3. $500 for all of North America (Canada, USA)

The third option would be best suited for business travelers looking for gyms wherever they might land.

How to find these gyms?

Pay people to visit and verify these gyms with photographic proof of the equipment. This will not be a one-time expense as keeping this list up date will require at least a yearly verification that the equipment is still there (gyms close, sell equipment etc).

Wild Idea: Give people with who contribute verified information a slice of the pie (they earn a percentage of every sale)

Why not make a free list of gyms and get the gyms to pay an affiliate link fee?

1. I want this directory to be un-biased, similar to consumer reports (you pay for an un-biased list of car reviews)
2. Gym owners and trainers are not very tech savvy, managing affiliate links to their sites would be a pain.

Why not other equipment, such as Nautilus?

It might be an interesting to expand this list to other types of equipment, but starting with MedX has the advantage that It’s the top of the line as far as equipment goes, so it will attracted the best trainers as well.
