Hi everyone! Tomorrow we'll release Mouseless (https://mouseless.app/) and thought we should make the launch transparent.
We built a public dashboard that keeps track of the pageviews, mailchimp subscribers, sales, revenue and the time we tracked to build the app: https://floatie.app/mouseless
It's not the first open dashboard we're building so we felt the need to make this a product by itself.
I thought all of this could be interesting for the community here. What do you think? What metrics would you add to our (or your) dashboard?
If you do decide to make a dashboarding tool, buckle up. :)
I've been working at Grow.com for a few years and it is a tough space. You have to do a lot of things well and your customers churn like crazy on the low end as they go out of business, lose that key client, or kill the project they were using the dashboard for.
Grow started at $50 to $100 a month when we did our pre-launch sale, and we have steadily increased our price. We are now up to $1,000 dollars a month. Working with bigger customers means they don't go out of business as frequently.
Also every thinks there is a 'mythical API' that will return as much data as you need, whenever you need it, at the speed you need. This of course doesn't exist but it is worse than that. The APIs vary hugely in terms of speed, and limits, and error handling.
Thanks for sharing Josh! Very interesting insights!
Grow is a great product, it was one of our favorites when looking for a solution. We want to focus on makers instead of big business and on public metrics instead of business KPIs. And we think about making Floatie mostly or completly free.
BTW We even made a floatie dashboard for floatie: https://floatie.app/floatie And as you see, it's only 6 subscribers to the mailing list, which isn't a strong sign of interest. (Okay it's only mentioned in 1 tweet and here.)
That being said, we just started with it and use it for our products, that's fine for now.
Not sure if it is side tracking a bit, but I would love Twitter, Instagram and LinkedIn page metrics. I'd also love to be able to click on each metric to get a graph over time. :)
Nice, we're already working on graphs! Will add the social metrics to our list of sources.
Congrats on launching! I agree with @joshdance that this seems to be a crowded space.
As someone who does analytics for a large org for a day job, I will offer that if you have 100 customers you'll be asked to move in 100 directions. Everyone wants something different.
That sounds like a challenging recipe for your product roadmap. If it were my company I'd probably consider employing the Superhuman product feedback flow to focus on what valuable customers need most.
Does Floatie have an IH product page? Very interested in following.
I've been in the market for a new dashboard software lately, and nothing has caught my eye. I really want something that tracks website hits, form submissions, Stripe Revenue, Number of Posts submitted to Instagram. I want to see how it tracks over time as well.
