I used to make detailed plans. I think this was in part due to my experience running a design studio. Clients need to see that you know what you’re doing—and they want to know what to expect (timeline, deliverables, requirements).
When it comes to startups though, these don’t seem to work. There are too many unknowns and variables to account for. It’s not that we shouldn’t plan, but, our plans need to be suitable to these scenarios.
A game of Blokus with my kid helped reinforce why: http://www.erickarjaluoto.com/blog/there-arent-any-maps-for-where-were-going/
Wow, Eric, nice blog, I also just wanted to say love board games and card games and over the years the help you plan in advance, think ahead and de-stress.
They are just amazing.
It’s interesting how differently folks work. My kids love games, but I find them pretty daunting. I think part of that is that a lot of my work feels like a game—so, by day’s end, I don’t have much energy left for another one. ;-)
Can understand, for me, it's phases and can't play console games haha I really don't see any use for that, but then love monopoly and card games 😂
