I've used both ConvertKit and Mailchimp for my course, sending out 5 lessons over 5 days (http://lettering.studio), both are pretty great!
I've used MailChimp for that.
Mailchimp, with the free plan you have Automations as well. So once subscriber signs up he start receiving emails from Lesson1 to Lesson N.
Mailchimp will do the job for standard automation, but a solution like Drip will give you lots more options to track your learners and define paths for them based on their actions.
