I've been creating a project with a friend of mine, and right now, we're just using Google Drive to share Information. I was wondering, though, if there's a better option with sharing files (.pngs, .txts) that's similar to Google Drive that others are using! We keep our Google Drive quite organized, but I'm getting quite tired of it.
I use Airtable for a lot of the stuff I used to use Sheets for.
@KhristianV we use GitHub for nearly everything. We're just two people and both technical... but all feature ideas, bugs, and discussion topics are Issues within GitHub. Because there's a built in kanban board we use that to organize Backlog, In-Progress, Done.
Finally, for things that require a longer write up, we just write things in Markdown (.md) and use Pull Requests to change it. Hope that helps and happy to provide more info!
Dude thanks for the help! I was actually just looking up what GitHub was today, and I might try to use it! I heard about their Company, but didn't really know what it was for certain. Thanks for clearing things up and showing me these features!
If you are a technical person, using git is a must. If you are a non-technical person, understanding git is a must. Win win :)
No problem @KhristianV ! GitHub is based on Git which is the technology that does version control for code. It can be confusing for beginners (heck even for advanced users) ! So don't worry too much about all the new vocab.
I also teach a class on GitHub and my students love this video series as a introduction, maybe you'll find it useful as well: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BCQHnlnPusY
Good luck
Gitlab is always an option too!
How about using something like Trello, but with Google Drive integration?
Here is an article showing how easy it is to attach google drive files to trello boards/cards - https://help.trello.com/article/796-attaching-documents-with-google-drive
Wow! I've never heard of Trello, and it seems super easy to use! I love the visual integration/aesthetic to the interface. I might use it in the future! Thanks for the suggestion Sean!
Could you explain why you are feeling tired of GDrive? What are the problems, that it has no solution for?
I'm getting a bit tired of GDrive simply because of the various accounts/emails I use. It could just be our fault, but we're using about 3 accounts to access 1 shared GDrive Folder for our company. (2 founder emails, and 1 email for the actual company). Although, I still feel like I'll be using GDrive, I was mainly curious about what others used
Give Asana a try. It's fantastic.
Dude! Asana's great! Just the UI/UX is perfect for me. Thank you so much!
Great to hear @KhristianV ! Let me know if you have any more questions!
Plutio.com is a new startup aiming to bring everything you will ever need to manange your business.
Projects, tasks, files, conversions, invoicing, calendar, contracts, proposals and so much more!
Trello and Workflowy.
Interesting that you use both. Can you elaborate on how you use them a bit?
I use workflowy for getting ideas out of my brain. It's simple interface is pretty good for getting your head empty. After that, I put the ideas nicely in their corresponding trello board.
Hope it makes sense.
Interesting that no one mentioned Slack . What do people use for team communication? I second the value of kanban boards on trello... both for dev and more importantly for content strategy. Does anyone else use trello or similar for content development?
Notion
Airtable
+1 for Notion - it's fantastic
I mostly use G Suite + Google Drive + Evernote + Asana.
Next to that i just keep experimenting and changing tools. Organizing my organizing tools makes me focus on what I'm organizing for.
That's about all the apps you need! I usually don't like using different applications, but it does sound interesting! And I definitely agree that organization is key for optimal success
Looks like new Notion is really good
https://www.notion.so/
I have been hooked to Notion for quiet few months and its like all the tools in one place along with few new features.. Me and my team love it https://notion.so do check it out once
Google Drive, Trello, Todoist!
We use Google Sheets (shared) and it's ugly. I even thought about starting a new app called "Founders Box" or something similar where everything can be housed with a nice UI/UX etc.
Someone please build it! I'll be your first paying customer.
Try airtable
www.plugg.co
I'm one of the founders, launching beta in 3 weeks. Let me know!
Haha that's a super interesting idea! Have you tried looking at the other suggestions in the comments? There's a lot of apps here that I've never heard of
Are you doing this internally, or with clients/potential customers? If it's the latter, my startup could help. If it's the former, we use Google Doc and Confluence.
Unfortunately, I'm doing this internally. Usually with clients/potential customers we just use Dropbox (which is quite a struggle when uploading lots of documents). I'd love to hear about your startup, though! I may need it in the future or know someone who will!
Yeah, I figured as much.
That's how most people are sending over documents.
If you want to schedule a time I can walk you through Recapped.io. You'll be able to create a living, breathing document that includes everything related to that project. Marketing, contracts, pricing, etc. You can also invite everyone involved and have them leave comments and provide feedback.
Let me know!
I've used Evernote with a shared notebook but it's not great for higher volumes of files.
Wow! I never knew the features of Evernote until I looked it up. My friends use it, but I never knew it was for business! I love the feature where you can scan and search info from business cards.. that'll definitely come in handy!
I've been experiencing the same frustration! Any suggestions would be awesome.
