Why the requirements when adding an IndieHackers product?

I'd love to understand the reasons behind the restrictions on what products can be added to the IndieHackers products directory.

When I go to add a product, it says "We're currently only accepting product businesses (as opposed to agencies, consultancies, or services businesses) that generate more than $0 in revenue through Stripe and are willing to share."

I'd love to add a "product" which is really just a hobby but it doesn't generate any revenue. I do have a Stripe account and am totally willing to share (the fact that I don't have any revenue haha!)

Is there a particular brand or type of content you're hoping to avoid by disallowing zero revenue products?

I'm just interested by the way, it's perfectly fine by me if you want to control the type of products on the site.

You can actually add a product despite those restrictions, it just won't be visible in the list. This will change eventually. It's funny that there's a mystery as to why, but sadly the real answer is mundane. It's the same answer as to why everything else on the site is not yet as good as it could be...

You know what you're dead right and I just added my product successfully! The UX is super smooth by the way. It really made sense to me.

I think the main hole is actually products that earn off of an App Store. I understand IH is kind of like a content arm for stripe, but there are many online businesses, ranging from hobbies that pay for KFC once a month to behemoths like LINE that are make their money from mobile stores.

Close behind that would be companies getting paid through Steam or Amazon.

Thank you! I didn't realise you can at people.

There's probably a faster way to get the answer but I figured it would be fun to make a community post so we can all speculate and develop conspiracy theories! 😉
