September 21, 2026 I’m not a developer. I built my first wellness app anyway.

A few weeks ago, VitaSnap was just an idea in my head.

I wanted to build a wellness app that made everyday tracking feel simpler, especially when it comes to food.

The idea was simple: instead of manually entering everything you eat, take a photo of your meal and let AI help you understand what’s on your plate.

There was one fairly big problem:

I’m not a developer.

I had never built a web app before.

But instead of letting that stop me, I decided to see how far I could get with AI.

I built VitaSnap with Grok Build, mostly by describing what I wanted, testing what it created, finding things that didn’t work, asking for changes, and repeating the process.

What started as a simple meal photo idea gradually became a real wellness app.

VitaSnap can now estimate calories from a photo, suggest things you could add or remove from a meal, recommend simple exercises, answer questions about food and wellness, suggest foods or drinks for energy, and even help you come up with recipes from what you already have in your fridge.

And then I actually launched it.

That was probably the strangest part for me. Seeing other people use something that existed only in my head not long ago made the whole thing feel real.

I’m still at the very beginning. There are things to improve, things I want to add, and probably plenty of mistakes I haven’t discovered yet.

But building VitaSnap taught me something important:

AI doesn’t suddenly make me a developer. But it gives me the ability to build things I would previously have assumed were out of reach.

And that distinction matters to me.

I’m joining Indie Hackers because I want to share this part of the journey too: not just launching products, but figuring out what happens after you launch them.

How do you find your first real users?

How do you know what to improve and what to ignore?

How do you turn something you built because you could into something people actually want?

That’s the part I’m figuring out now.

If you’ve built your first product recently, I’d love to hear what surprised you most after launching.

And if you try VitaSnap, feedback is very welcome. 🙂
