Stephan from Switzerland approached us with his Womens fashion store built on Shopify. He was achieving sales and had some virtual assistants helping him. However, he wanted to augment sales and hired us on a monthly retainer to improve his revenue.
Initial Approach
- Analysed Stephan’s current marketing tactics
- Reviewed the website and main landing page
- Examined all analytics and data on traffic, conversions, content etc
- Looked at email campaigns and automations
- Reviewed social media tactics
- Examined paid advertising strategy
As a result we found a huge number of areas where the store and the marketing could be improved. This article will be separated into a number of sections. We always start with the quick wins. These are simple marketing tactics or apps that can be implemented to grow sales. They are the low hanging fruit that all Shopify store owners should be implementing.

The Quick Wins
EverLiker and Instagram
If you are on Shopify you will certainly have an Instagram account. Instagram is a phenomenal platform but all Shopify store owners will be wondering how to grow their account. Well here is a great little hack. Head over to your Chrome Store and download the free EverLiker Chrome plugin. Set a number of popular hashtags in your genre and then leave it. The app then goes and likes relevant content on Instagram. It is great for sparking users interest about your account and leading them back to your store.
UseFomo
Is a little pop-up that flashes up on the screen. You can set it to any part, we normally recommend the bottom left. It is social proof for Shopify Stores. It shows that customers are buying your products and thus encourages other visitors to your Shopify store to do the same. It always had a huge impact on ROI every time we install this on one of our clients stores. Highly recommend! Here is the main website and you can also find it within your Shopify app store.
Exit Intent Pop-up
You will have seen these on most websites you visit now. It is a window that pops up with an offer or a reason to give the Shopify store your email in exchange for content, a discount or a free gift. There are a huge number of options when it comes to these pop-ups. Make sure you are using these. With this client in particular they had a 10% discount code but it was hidden at the bottom of their main page. We added an exit intent pop-up to capture more emails.
Essential Shopify Marketing
Abandon Cart Emails
The two common errors we see with abandon cart emails are as follows. They have either not been setup at all! The fashion company we are using for this example were guilty of that. Or many other clients that approach us have simply used the standard templates provided by MailChimp or whichever service they have chosen to use.
Abandon Cart emails are crucial to boosting your Shopify revenue. There are so many reasons why people abandon their cart and often they just need a little nudge to encourage them to return.
You should be doing the following with your abandon cart emails:
- Constantly analysing, updating and A/B testing
- Language is key
- Discounts
- Timing
- Copywriting
With the client in question we added an extra $950USD in sales in just the first few weeks of setting up the abandon cart emails.
Facebook Advertising
I couldn’t resist the urge to sound like Gary Vee here…Facebook ads are so underpriced! Again the client in this example was not using Facebook Ads. We set them up and saw a huge increase in traffic and sales.
Highly targeted click throughs costing as little at £0.18GBP or $0.24USD. We created highly targeted image and video ads. We tested different audiences, locations and copy. I could write an entire post on Facebook ads for your Shopify store and plan to do so in the future. Too much to cover in this section alone.
Old Email List Data
Now there is a GDPR caveat to this for those based in the UK. You will need to read the regulation on holding old email date. For those in the USA, Canada etc you can carry on! Essentially old email lists are a great way to build audiences on Facebook. They may have unsubscribed for a number of reasons. You can upload these emails to Facebook and then promote to this very specific audience. You can then create ‘lookalike’ audiences from this data as well. We did exactly this for a client recently and the results were incredible! Will do a deep dive on this when we cover Facebook Ads in the post above.
New Signups Newsletter Reposition
This was specific to this client. The newsletter signup form which offered an excellent 10% discount on a customers first order was hidden at the bottom of the page. We of course advised the developers to move this further up to where it was more accessible.
Instagram Stories and Instagram Swipe Up
These are amazing features on Instagram and should be leveraged to their full potential. The Instagram story is a great way to engage with your audience. They may not see every post so make sure you create an Instagram story with your key information. You can also add #hashtags to your Instagram stories for even wider visibility.
Swipe Up function is available once you exceed 10,000 followers and allows you to send your viewers to a link or webpage.
