We bootstrapped to $1m ARR in our first year :)
Here's my interview on IndieHackers: https://www.indiehackers.com/podcast/010-laura-roeder-of-meetedgar
"It's not sudden. I've prepared for it. But sometimes I still feel a little guilty, or a little uncomfortable, thinking, 'Do I really get to do this? Do I really still get to be paid a nice salary from this business when I'm spending so little time on it?' I have just one set meeting a week. And it's flexible.
"It's interesting how once you are here you feel a little weird about it. We flew business class from London to L.A. and my husband's like, 'I just don't want to seem like an asshole when we talk about it.' We have a vacation house in Venice. But I don't like to say it that way.
"My first year freelancing I made $30,000, which is what I made as my salary at my job. The next year I doubled it. And then, the year after that I'm like, 'I want to make six figures,' and I realized it ain't gonna happen with how I'm doing things now. I had just started. I couldn't raise my rates any more. I was already charging too much for someone with two years' experience. But that really motivated me to explore different business models which got me into social media, information products, and all that stuff.
"I created a business out of thin air that's supporting this life. I look around and I think, 'Wow, I made this.'
"I have a six-month-old baby and a four-year-old. This time around, I'm breastfeeding exclusively. My husband's at home as well. You know, I think my life has turned out very much how I expected. If anything, maybe I'm surprised a bit by how well it has turned out, and how many of the things that I've wanted have happened."
