I announced the #30DayStartup Challenge a few days ago, tweeted it and posted on Product Hunt (#1 for the day, 1200+ upvotes). Since then, over 3,000 people have signed up for the challenge!
It started yesterday but anyone at any stage can start at any time.
If you want to get in you can join here 👉 https://www.newco.app/30daystartup
I set up a simple landing page on Webflow, used Upscribe for emails and then Sendgrid for sending the emails, Gitbook is used for the content delivery system, Airtable is the curriculum delivery and progress trackers for users, Slack for chatting. Super straightforward.
Tbh I was interested because you never know what you can learn and seemed like a smooth experience, at least on the covers.
However, I was extremely off-put and ultimately decided to abandon it due to the constant re-requesting of new data. Initially, it was just join the mailing list. Then I got another email to add some details, then I had to do a full blown account etc. Initially, I probably would have been ready to sign up but this constant trying of squeezing some extra data juice was super annoying to me.
My piece of advice is to generally once you start such a campaign, make it smooth to complete the setup, I don't want to go through it 7 times and if you made a mistake - ok try to correct it, but keep it at a minimum, just bite the bullet and make a better campaign next time.
Alternatively, you could have at least segmented the users so that the ones already signed up could just pass and then keep the new signup strategies for new users.
Otherwise, it still looks like fun, might revisit later.
sorry you feel that way! Maybe because it is all done without any code that some things felt a bit clunky
But let me explain the process:
mailing list - so I can tell you where to go and log you to the program database
registration - almost like a double opt-in and get you onto the register and tie you to the course material so you can submit your standups/reviews/progress tracker
The submissions for standup and end of stage are to figure out what is going to be most helpful for everyone involved, how to improve and how to deliver the best content and the best times. This also becomes a progress tracker for people taking the course so that they can see their growth, what they needed and how they solved it.
This is the first of many I hope and will 100% look to improve the process in the future so appreciate you taking the time to pick out the parts you found to be bumps in the road!
Thanks for the clarification, hope to see it all in one the next time :) Otherwise all looks good. Good luck with it, keep us posted on the stats.
Me too!! Will look to build something scalable for sure.
300 people are already submitting and in the class. 80-90% are in Slack.
Its very interesting to see what problems people think are blocking them and what will be helpful to get them to the next stage. I'll be taking this into consideration for what I'm building and tutorials I'll be launching.
I try to participate in that challenge. And just look through in all content. And in some of them just coming soon texts, when they appear?
In the first welcome message I mention that I'm building the content out over the 30 day period. I'm open about that.
This is the first time this is being done. When one 30 day startup challenge is completed then I'll be able to keep it open for a self serve purpose
ok my friend i will wait updates too
Hey ben - I signed up but couldn't find anything in the site, everything seems to be work in progress?
Whats the deal with that :O
Couldnt find anything? the first three menu items all have content.
