300 new users in 3 days, after just one post on IH

A few days ago, I wrote about how I got to 1000 users: https://www.indiehackers.com/@RickVanHaasteren/how-i-got-my-first-1000-users-47d06edc3d

That article ended up on Hacker News, and got quite popular. The result of the last 3 days:

  • Huge spike in visitors (around 20x the normal amount)

  • 300 new users

  • Lots of new backlinks on sites with high domain authority

Bottom line: sharing and being transparent on IH pays off:-)

Congrats! I'm pretty sure to build in the open and communicate without hiding bad sides of sideprojects are way more efficient than trying to sell the perfect business stories.

Congrats Rick. I shared an early landing page of ConvoPanda asking for feedback. Not only did I get over 40 comments of great feedback I got almost 300 visitors to the site and a bunch of new email sign ups.

I love that Indie Hackers allows us to all get together and see what each other is working on.

How did your post end up on HN? Did you have someone post it for you or did it just happen organically?

    1. 1

I just hit the Share on HN button, and it got quite a lot of upvotes.

      1. 1

        That's awesome thanks Rick.

The good thing about IndieHackers is that they do click links, but it is also not always easy to "sell" an Indie Hacker on any product. Never hurts to mention to the community what you're doing though ;)

That’s very true. We’re all curious about what other people are building :)

  4. 1

Did you share it on HN?

    1. 2

Yes, I did. Good move from @csallen to add the HN share icon next to the post:-)

whoah what is this new feature?

I read all your articles and they are inspirational and full of data. I wonder what's your conversion rate. How many (%) of those who sign up become paid users.

    1. 1

At this point that number is extremely low. Mainly because the free version is enough for most people. That's why I'm working on a free trial only, and after that only paying customers can get reports.

      1. 1

This is what I've expected. Probably bellow 1%. This is really interesting how some companies can achieve the number between 5% - 10%

    Congrats!

Thanks for sharing! I am not sure if I should write about my experiences as well or if it is too early, but I just surpassed $200 in monthly recurring revenue and got my first 300 users!

Great @RickVanHaasteren , thanks for sharing that! I'm in the process of growing Feedier.com - and really appreciate to see such sharing and inspiration!

For GreeDeals, has anyone introduced you?

    1. 1

Thanks! Greedeals contacted me after I was featured on StackCommerce.

    Great stuff!

So the backlinks were to the IH article but that drives a certain percentage of people to check out your site? Or were you meaning your site somehow got the backlinks?

    1. 2

Both, there were some direct backlinks too. Just this morning SiteGuru was featured on a Japanese website, so a lot of new Japanese users today:-)

      1. 2

Interesting! Very cool that you also got some direct backlinks.
