Are there any pay-what-you-want payment providers?

Hi,

I built a small macOS task bar app to show how much time is left until my next deadline. It won't be so much value to others that they will pay for it so the plan is to just release it for free.

However, I'd like to give customers the option to pay for it. It's up to them whether they just download for free or send me some money.

With Gumroad you can set a price and after payment the user can download the software. Is there something like Gumroad where the user can set the price?

Of course I could do this custom with Stripe but I don't want to spend too much time on this.

Do you know a pay-what-you-want payment provider?

Thanks, Yoeri

I feel the simple and easy option for pay-what-you-want product is https://www.buymeacoffee.com

For my product Tealpod Image Compressor https://www.tealpod.com/compressor/ (this was before buymeacoffe time) I wrote a small script to do that. I am using paddle.com for payment and they provide option to apply a coupon. I kept my product price as $100 and I wrote a small script which takes user entered value(dropdown) lets say user select $5 it will apply the coupon 100-5 = 95 as coupon. User will be charged $5.

If you want something quick, kind of plug-and-play style, use a donation button. This is paypal's https://www.paypal.com/us/webapps/mpp/fundraising but there are plenty of services for this.

I'll bet you could change their look and don't ask for "donations" but use a better copy like "Pay what you want" or something like that.

    Hope this helps.

      https://developer.paypal.com/docs/classic/paypal-payments-standard/integration-guide/formbasics/

I think you can just make the "amount" field visible and they can fill in the amount they want to pay.

You could try setting a price of 0 on Gumroad. That would allow for a download and give you their email address.

Might be an idea to add a donate button into the app and give the user an easy way to donate to you.
