Ask IH: Are you 1 of the 5 U.S. adults who has access to a smart speaker (Amazon Echo/Google Home)?

I found a report from voicebot.ai saying that

that 19.7% of U.S. adults have access to smart speakers today. That is up from less than 1% of the population just two years ago.

I would like to know if you have access to a smart speaker, how often you use it and for what.

I developed a skill to keep track of your mood but I don't have many users yet (less than 10 and I think 8 are friends of mine who stopped using the skill, ahaha)

Thanks for your comments

We have 4x Google Home minis in our house.

Our family uses them for three things:

    1. Speakers (throughout the house). Much cheaper (and not as good sounding as say, Sonos, but good enough) for playing music. We also have Chromecast Audio to some good speakers that they're also hooked into, so it's a pretty good setup.

    2. Grocery list.

    3. Timers (cooking, etc)

Every now and then I'll ask about the weather or what's happening today, which reads me the news.

I've thought about coding some things myself, but I don't think discoverability is good enough to warrant the time.

Thanks David for sharing the way you and your family use the smart speakers. I agree that discoverability is a huge issue for the skills/actions. In fact, the report says that almost 50% of the people don't even bother with discoverability and when they do, they find what to do with the speakers through friends (22.5%)

What have you thought about coding?

Simple things really. I keep a pretty simple budget for myself and was thinking of a way to easily add receipts by reading it aloud rather than typing each in.
