Ask IH: How do you improve your decision-making skills?

Hey guys,

After almost one year of running Manypixels I have come to a conclusion:

If I want to grow this project, I have to let as much of my ego away, improve my decision making, connect more with others, and grow this thing :D

When you're starting a new project I would recommend being bullish and not listening too much to what others say, but when you've got something on your hands that work: You got tomake sure you do not make biased decisions.

I feel I have reached this stage with Manypixels.

At the end of the day it is not only about how hard you work, but whether what you work on that matters, and taking the right decisions to define that "what" is crucial.

I read Farnam Street and Naval's tweets that helps me improve my decision making skills.

Any other suggestions?

Decision making in general is a very broad topic. What helped me really is trying to separate emotionally loaded decisions from "technical or economic driven" decisions.

The most accessible and top book in this regard is "Decisive" by Chip and Dan Heath.

Another great trove is "Mindware" by R. Nisbett (although it is more difficult reading).

Firstly, you might want to find out a more precise goal. Improve decision making is too broad a topic. When you have more precise and concrete developmental goal it would be easier to work on it. "make sure you do not make biased decisions" is better, but still there ways to make it better as a goal. One of the things I asked people I coach is what prompted them to raise this issue and usually it helps them no narrow down the topic they bring.

Another approach might be to study literature about decision making, see what's relevant, resonates, and experiment with it. If you interested in book recommendations, I would recommend Decisive and Smart Choices.

    Hey @Vinrob

I'm a great fan of Manypixels, although to be honest I have not used the service I love how you have managed to pull it off operationally.

I've always found this book to very useful because it's quick and simple to use https://www.amazon.in/Decision-Book-Strategic-Tschappeler-Collection/dp/1846683955
