Ask IH: What has IH given you?

I'm curious about what kinds of things Indie Hackers has offered you or helped you out with. It could be from the community (forums, meetups) or from the various resources offered on IH (articles, interviews, podcasts).

I read a similar post on HN a while ago [1] and thought it was really interesting to read everyone's answers.

    self belief.

i know i can do it cause i see other people doing it.

  2. 4

I know I'm annoying the shit out of everyone with my daily stand up posts, but I appreciate that my fellow hackers humor me. I am thrilled to have finally found my tribe. Virtual or live, I appreciate hanging out with folks that write what they are going to do, then do it. They've both talk and walk. It's incredibly motivating. I've written more code since joining IH (15 days and counting) then in the last three months.

Thanks to IH, I can't launch fast enough.

1.) It's no longer lonely on the top.

Happy to see that there are other crazy people like me that have realised that a 7-7 job (including commute time) is not a meaningful life.

    2.) Motivation, Motivation, Motivation !!!

3.) Read and listen to a lot of different ways how to solve a problem, create an MVP, realize a project.

  4. 3

Chance to meetup with like-minded individuals in my community, new places to post my website to gain traffic, interesting people to interact with on Twitter, advice on learning to program, and advice on my site. There's more I can't think of right now

  5. 3

From a community perspective, especially local to me, it's meeting and learning from other aspiring independent entrepreneurs. I particularly like seeing that everyone typically runs into similar problems and there's no one solution to those problems.

From a personal perspective I enjoy discussing the challenges people have around their business and being able lending my expertise.

  6. 2

    For me, inspiration.

Before IH, I used to think that success only came from building the next big thing, which had to be used by millions of people and backed by millions of dollars. Anything short of this, was a failure (to my eyes).

This community made me see just how wrong I was. Seeing solo founders build so many relatively unknown (mainstream) products which are actually immensely useful to certain niches, has given me a whole new perspective into what success looks like.

    Thanks IH :)

    One word: Perspective.

  8. 1

I get a lot of motivation to work on my projects from the podcasts. Hearing stories of other people's success in their side projects and businesses makes me want to get back to work and breathe new life into what I'm working on at the time.

There's also a wealth of information on IH about various aspects of working on a side project -- whether it be from the articles, forum posts, or podcasts. I also really like checking out the resources that people recommend (e.g. books, articles, podcasts).

    I could summarize it as:

    1. Inspiration -- realizing that you can build a successful side project

    2. Resources -- learning about how to build that successful side project

  9. 1

1.) A way to connect with amazing people, who share the same interests

2.) Helped me discover great projects and startups

3.) It has given me the best feedback and supportive early users for my side-projects

    Love Indie Hackers 😘
