[Ask IH] What relationships have you built on IH?

Hey IH,

I know I personally built some awesome and equally valuable relationships here, couldn't find another community where I could do it so well.

I'm curious... What relationships have you built on IH? Tell me your story :)

If not, tell us what relationships you would like to build and why. Hopefully, we can connect some people through this post too!

See you guys in the comments 👇

I built either relationships based on providing feedback and helping out (+ also getting help) with other people building B2B businesses like mine (http://www.cortes.design) and those are the relationships I enjoy the most and can also provide the most value.

I love being connected with other IH every few days through https://list.chat by @ip!!

Try it so I can connect with more people the lazy way too haha

Hah! Thanks for the shoutout @pedrocortes! For anyone else looking to be connected with other IH lurkers 1-on-1, subscribe to this IndieHacker ListChat

In my many years on the web and in startups, I haven't come across a more helpful and genuinely kind community than this one. We're all in the same boat, so I think that makes it easier to empathize with people and give each other what we're looking for (e.g. critical feedback, helpful suggestions or questions to think about).

Hope to connect with more of the IH crew!

I got the chance to meet both @channingallen and @csallen at MicroConf this year after joining IH.

I spotted Channing at lunch on the first day of the conference. I had to sit down and say hello and introduce myself. After doing an IH interview, emailing with him and even sending him one of our company tees, it was funny meeting IRL!

Anyway, Channing asked me pretty quickly what my biggest challenge in running my business is. We discussed building company culture for a remote team, how I was working to improve that as a founder. He gave me some great advice that I've since taken to heart and implemented in my business.

We were still talking when the afternoon sessions were starting, so we wandered into the hall towards the speakers room. Others from the Stripe team came up and introduced themselves, especially one extremely friendly guy.

I politely said hello, but wanted to make sure I continued my conversation with Channing so I somewhat dismissed him. Not in a mean way; I just wanted to continue the in-depth conversation I was having with Channing.

10 minutes later, the CEO of Stripe was on-stage!

The lesson? Do your homework on who's attending the conferences you're attending! Haha

But I don't regret it. I love the guys at IH and it was nice just to get to meet them both and hear about their stories. Turns out their great guys :)

Great story Joe, thanks for sharing!

Would love to have seen your reaction when it happened haha :)

Also, really liked his takeaways on MicroConf (from the twitter linked you shared)

I can't say I've met someone new on IH but in order to fix this exact problem for ProductHunt, I've built a simple site that connects product hunters based on their needs and abilities. So if you want to network with someone new, here it is:

    http://NiceToHuntYou.com

Should I build something similar for IH?

Seems pretty awesome, just signed up ;)

      Thanks for sharing!

        Happy hunting Pedro! :)

I have not connected much over IH, although I joined a French telegram group https://lechantier.co/

One thing I am really looking forward is starting my nomadic life starting next January, and so I might be looking for people that be down to rent a somewhat big house and ship product all days, learning the local language, keeping each other accountable and... MAYBE drink a beer or two.

I have no idea if anyone would seriously consider this to be honest, but I would.

    1. 1

Sounds like a fun time ;)

      Why next January in particular?

      1. 1

I am currently working full time as a software engineer, the company is really great so I will ask them if they would be down to keep me as a remote developer. January would allow me to bulk enough money to live in Asia for about 2 years carefree.

        1. 1

That sounds awesome, good luck Swann!

I'm sure you can get that position. Have you read the 4hww chapters on asking for a remote job for people that already have a full time job?

          Cheers ;)

          1. 1

Yep, I have read it, I am a big fan of Tim Ferriss because he brings some good practical knowledge into the abstract self-development movement.

I don't think my company is offering anyone remote jobs, but it's fine with me, I graduated from an ivy league in China, I am not too worried about finding a job, computer science's market is huge plus I am pretty frugal.

            1. 1

For sure, great way to go ;)

              Best of luck!

What's up Pedro? Hope all is well, buddy. You are definitely one of the quality relationships I've developed through IH.

    1. 2

Hey Jonathan, thanks for the comment ;)

Super glad to hear that, I'm always trying to provide as much value as I can, so that means a lot!

Any other relationship you can name from IH?

Also, just saw the new landing page it's getting better and better and the flow makes a lot of sense. That app screenshot reminded me you guys are getting closer to launching, can't wait (especially for the android version haha).

      Cheers!

Thanks as always for the kind words. You will be the FIRST to know when the Android version launches, and of course, you'll always have a free lifetime membership =)

Your newsletter has been tremendously helpful for me to figure out how to improve my landing page. For instance, I never heard of Hotjar but because you recommended it, I tried it out.

Let's just say...it's been eye opening to see where people scroll, click, etc on www.tribefive.me.

        Cheers!

        Jonathan

Yey, would love the lifetime membership :)

Awesome to know it's been so valuable, I will definitely try to keep it up!

          Cheers!!
