Hi, all.
I am trying to test public usage of the tool (built to scratch my itch) in the domain name/business name generation niche.
I am about to release it to the public next week, so I am trying to get feedback.
Here is the link: http://getific.com
I will truly appreciate any feedback!
looks neat! would like to see the ability to sort by availability.
Thanks Russ, I will add that for sure :)
love the site and what you are trying to do. but if you can limit the result and show me more relevant top 10 I would love that.
I will test that option (like sort by most popular or something).
Hi Bart. Some comments:
Why only .com?
Long titles are not supported: http://take.ms/aVXdW
I didn't understand that those results are .com domains until I visited Godaddy. It was not obvious to me.
A list of favorite domains would be such a great addition.
Btw, have a look: http://namemesh.com/
Hi, Alexander.
Because it is only alpha - I have other .tld's encoded, but disabled as I will need to test it properly first.
Thanks for that, I will work on it, probably I will use dynamic tiles for that.
Oh yeah, when I will enable the .tld selection the whole process is much clearer. You are right, it is not clear now, but hey, it's just alpha :)
Already done, but disabled. The favorite domains are stored in a cookie, so when you return, you can access them.
Yes, I have used it tbh, but for me, it was going between 3-4 tools, so I have created one that saves me the trip and spits out an enormous list that I can scan through.
Thank you for your valuable feedback!
Hi Bart -
Really like the tool. Having few sorting and filtering options like https://leandomainsearch.com/ will be very helpful.
Cheers,
Salil
Good idea, thanks Salil!
I think is better to move te names in green to the top.
And test for multiple domains.
Thanks, Ninja, I will test that!
Looks good! Nice work Bart :)
Thanks man, keeping myself busy ;)
nice work man!
I like everything about it.
But, there were a few domains, that shown available when it is not.
Search "Be"
belo.com, budbe.com and several others shows as available
Yup, this is, unfortunately, the issue with Alpha. It sometimes shows false positives (like on average every 1-2 thousand domains for regular searches will be falsely positive - for some words, this will be much higher and for some lower). I will try to get that fixed before releasing. Thanks!
Looks great, works fast. I dig it.
Maybe show that .com is the default tld when searching? Future extensions can be checking availability of social media handles, like https://www.launchaco.com/name
Also, recommend adding an SSL to your site - even if it's a fake 'free' one from Cloudflare (flexible), it goes a long way for credibility and non-SSL sites just look off to me...
Cheers and all the best!
Great idea, I will look in to that.
Yeah, it is already on CF, but I have disabled all extras for testing. I am a SSL fan :)
Thanks Shub, I appreciate the feedback!
Very neat and easy to use as well!
Thanks, Karlos, I appreciate kind words.
Hi, tested it very quickly. There might be the need of such i tool, but you'd probably want to offer a structured way of looking at results: a such long list might be too huge to deal with.
Good job anyway !
I know this is not as structured as some alternatives, but I wanted to create something else - something that caters for people that like to quickly swoop through the extensive list :) I will try maybe add some shading or something to make it easier to read. Thanks!
Have you tried out : http://www.panabee.com/
Yup, I have created Getific, because none of the business name generators worked for me (including Panabee). Either the list on a site is short, or they focus on one name generation method. I wanted to create something that saves me the trip between 3-4 sites when looking for cool names. So it is a tool that solves my problem :)
Looks pretty good! Instead of your header "Perfect Name for X" I would make it include the fact that is searches for domain names. I know you mention that right below but never assume people read all your copy.
As for the product itself it feels a bit generic and I could swear I've already seen like 3 other versions of this. What makes it stand out? Why use it over the competition?
I think the name is great, good luck!
I will do A/B test with that.
Whenever I was looking for a domain tool, I would have 3-4 such tools and go between them, wasting time and often not finding anything interesting. So I coded a tool for myself that saves the trip and creates a massive list of variations offered by other sites, it's fast, and it is easy to scan.
Thanks, generated with Getific :) Thank you for your feedback!
I love it !
Thanks Rifche!
Hi Bart,
Nice work! I gave Getific a try and here's what I think:
Overall, a very handy tool.
The ability to quickly get the lowdown on names that are unavailable or restricted impressed me just as much as the naming inspiration. If I had known about this a few weeks ago, I would have saved quite a few hours (!)
Some of the subheadings on the homepage are really hard to read at the current size. I like the message "Somewhere, something incredible is waiting to be named" but had I just stumbled onto the page, I would have scanned and missed it.
Would you be willing to change "try to answer in 2 days" to simply "answer in 2 days" on your Contact page? Whenever I see "try" anywhere on a website, I think of Yoda "Do. Or do not. There is no try." ;)
I noticed a couple of missing words and typos on the About and FAQ pages. May I offer you a round of complimentary proofreading/copy suggestions? If that interests you, drop me a quick note to cynthia.macneil@gmail.com
Cheers,
Cynthia
Thanks!
Build this for myself as I often buy domains, so I know what you mean. Sometimes it takes hours to get the right name.
Good tip!
Ah right, I should mention that the copy is just a placeholder, I will be rewriting it. I will completely remove the time of answer - it's free to use the tool, so I will not guarantee response time.
Thank you for your feedback Cynthia, I will contact you shortly!
Sounds good - talk more soon!
What do the domains in red and green mean?
Your question means I need to clarify this on the website then! Red is unavailable, green have free associated ".com" domain. Thanks!
It's great.
What anonymous user data are you collecting using conversant media?
Bug: click generate without providing keyword.
Bug: enter space and click generate, resulting page has domains in green, e.g. s.com, o.com that aren't available but shown available.
None, the site has only Google Analytics as far as I can see, I think I did not miss anything. Where do you see Conversant if you don't mind me asking?
Thanks, Dickey, much appreciated!
http://www.anrdoezrs.net/ based links to godaddy is Commission Junction and points to conversant media that creates anonymous user profiles.
Ah right, this is GoDaddy way of linking to their site, and I have no control over it at all, nor I have access to data. The data stays with GoDaddy and CJ to process payments and make sure there is no scamming taking place.
To be honest I do not think that this is a problem people have. For example, if I use godaddy and my name is not available it will show me alternative names. This service is quite easily available online and all work the same way (asking for keyword and then giving you every alternative for those keywords).
It is not meant to be the next Facebook, it is just a side project. As long as it makes enough to pay for servers, I have no bigger ambitions for it.
Cool concept Bart! In my opinion, I think it’s a great tool to spark ideas but it might be difficult to monetize. Most of the words I mashed together didn’t sound too cool. There could be a few hidden gems in there but it might be difficult for people to find. From a programmer perspective, it’s cool as hell. From a business perspective, might be tough to make a buck.
I think people want validation. Is my idea name cool? Will others like the concept? Would people wear my brand name on a t-shirt or hat? It might sound cool to you but may not resonate with your target market. If you could create a service that validates the name and then allows them to purchase the domain through godaddy affiliates, i think it could work. It all depends on how serious you want to get with the project.
Hi man, you are right, but I have created it not to make money, it is just a side project, portfolio object and a tool that I wanted to exist, so it saves me time (I needed something like 3-4 other tools available, fused together). So it is just a hobby/ problem-solving tool that I want to release to public :) Other than that, I have other projects that generate income for me.
Thanks for the valuable input!
Why even show domains which are already registered? This is one thing which I hate about domainnamesoup.com
Other than that I like your site.
It's for two reasons:
To allow customers to spot a name they like, so they can use it with domain variation.
To make a feeling, that the tool does the job - I like to scan through domains (even registered) to find a cherry on a pie. It will be changed though.
If you provide an option to hide registered domains, I will be a fan.
I will surely change it after feedback I have got. Thanks!
Bart, what did you type in to come up with getific?
Nothing really, I have used a lot of name generators and did not found anything that would fit my needs. Thus coming up with this.
Unless you are asking for the domain name - in that case, it was "get", suggesting "get name/domain".
I tested it and it works. I was expecting it to return a variation of the words I used as suggestions. Instead all you gave me was the words I typed with letters appended after and before it. I think you should query a thesaurus and provide completely different but related domains for this to be useful. The idea is to give us alternatives to what we typed to spark a revelation. 💡
Hi, Abraham, thank you for the feedback, I will think about it!
Awesome generator. One thing that I noticed is the first search I attempted, "domain", domainless comes up, but when I get redirected to godaddy, domainless.com is taken.
I tried a couple of other searches and they were available, but for whatever reason, domainless still comes up in generator. Maybe it was available at one point, not too sure.
Yes, this is unfortunately false positive. This is caused by the tech used. For regular searches, one every 1-2 thousand domains might show false positive, unfortunately... I will work on this in the future.
Thanks for the heads up!
No worries. still a great tool. What tech are you using?
It's old school. Jquery with PHP, nothing fancy or "cool", the stack that simply works.
How much do you expect to make with GoDaddy's affiliate program?
Hi, Asciimo, just to pay for the servers. If I could make $300-400/month passive, then I would be more than happy, but surely I will make much less. This is a tool built for myself, I did not build it to make crazy money :)
Looks very nice! What library have you used for animating the dots in the background?
Hi, Tonixx, I have used a theme called "TheSaaS" from Themeforest. Not sure what library they have built in for particles tbh.
Thanks!
Will look into it. Thx!
https://namelix.com/ - check this
Yeah, seen it, great concept, but the results, for me at least, were a bit off when I tried that.
The names are not creative at all :/
This is just a tool, like any other name generation sites. So you still need to add creative juices for it to work :) Thanks for the feedback!
