Hey, congrats for your launch. It seems you have a large group of potential customers for this product. But aren't you afraid about the possibility suddently Gmail stops you from accessing the service (lots of stories and small companies shutting down this way)?
1
Hey Carl, yeah defensibility is big thing for us. We're continuing to work on this. What company case studies have you read (out of interest)?
2
Congrats on the launch!! When you launched your product on product Hunt, it sounds like you didn't have any development work done yet. How many months after you launched on PH did you launch the product officially?
1
Hey Crowe, we had about a three month window on marketing the product pre-launch. It gave us the dirtiest MVP but proved to engaged users that we were starting the ball rolling :)
2
Awesome, congrats! And lots of good info.
Can I ask for you to expand more on this:
"Find a big-time, active Product Hunter who will list your startup for you."
How did you find someone who was willing to list it for you? Did you have a relationship with them before or did you pitch them?
2
Hey Sergio, yes absolutely. There are lots of people on Product Hunt that are very active, listing product regularly and who have a big following.
Asking one of them to list your product will give you that initial boost you may need.

How many people did you approach?
I have already launched a Product Hunt post for my project (a bit too early, I was trying to create a test post and didn't know it couldn't be undone!) so it may be too late for me unfortunately.
Just a note - both of your links from the beginning of the article are going to 404 page. I would also add direct link to Drag website in first few sentences of your article - it is easier to read article and see the site for some :)
btw - your app is awesome! I am using an email client, so I don't use Gmail frontend, but if I would, I would probably pick your tool.

Hey Bart, yes another guy mentioned that. I don't know how to edit the article post-publishing! Any ideas where the edit button is??? Hellpppppp :)
There's no edit button on the article page (I really should add one), but you can get to it via your user profile.

Thanks Courtland :) No problem. It will make me write my future articles pinpoint accurate!

Nick - this is freaking awesome. Thank you for sharing. I am constantly in search of raw content and the details that go into building our bizs.I crave this stuff as I work on all my various side projects and ideas, one of my projects is literally creating a place for other makers to share and learn from folks like yourself. Check out www.makerstories.io - its a project I've been working on to create a place where creators can post/blog/document the raw content and details of what they did each day or week as they build out there project or work through their proof of concept. I'd love to continue to read about your journey and hear any feedback you have for MKS! Good luck and keep crushing

Hey Richard, Great idea. My Co-Founder ( @dudabardavid ) and I were literally talking about this as an idea the other day. Great you've already got the wheels in motion.
Love the idea and I think it will have some awesome traction.

Congrats on launching! Thanks for giving a detailed breakdown of how you got 9k users. I bookmarked this post so I can keep coming back to it throughout the whole SaaS journey =)

No worries Jake. All the best. Give me a shout if you have any questions.

Thanks for the share!
How and when did you monetize? Where you free while getting your early users, then flip the switch? Did you have your paid plan from day 1?
2
Hey Elijah, we started monetizing from around September 17 (from memory) but kept it very soft. Didn't have the mechanisms in place to actually restrict users (as in to restrict paid-for features). In honesty, we are still feeling out the correct pricing.
I think there's a lot of value in building your tool free, gaining users (and feedback) before you introduce a pricing model.

The first links of the article lead to 404 and 28th August is in 2 months not weeks :P

Sergio, check this out. Top 200 product hunters http://yvoschaap.com/producthunt/
Very nicely structured, no-bs article!
