Earning $50,000 in Less Than 3 Years Selling a Niche Online Course

Super cool! I'm finding saas to being difficult to develop and grow as a full-time engineer without a partner or ties to a particular market.

I started in devops and work as a backend developer and think there's an opportunity in there somewhere. Infra for developers. Videos to help go from 0-1. Scaling and debugging.

Do you have recommendations on first steps? I see that you did a landing page plus mailchimp. I'm thinking about putting content on YT first to create an audience. What would you do starting out without an audience?

YT is great for starting out, as you can produce a single video and still provide value. Plus, your video will get more views thanks to recommendations and specific searches (as compared to a one off site with maybe a visitor a day). It really streamlines building an audience.

You can also try livestreaming on twitch.tv. I've done that a few times, but since I've already got my main audience on YT i just stick with that.

Also, for the first video(s), don't worry about editing it. A one-hour unedited demo of setting something up can be incredibly popular. As much as people want quick bites, they also love diving in to the details and seeing it all step-by-step.

Thanks! I really think the online course space is underrated. Lots of great folks out there putting out fantastic courses and making a good living off of it. Makes me think it could be a niche community of indiehackers... something like Course Creators or such

Course Hunt? I did have the domain latest.courses with the idea of highlighting the latest courses being released but I feel like a site more like IH or Product Hunt would work better. You'd need course deals to bring a reason for people to subscribe and keep coming back...

For me, i was thinking more just a community of folks sharing knowledge about how they make/promote their courses, and less just another place to share it.
