Found an awesome new role because of Indie Hackers (pt 2)

It's been a crazy last couple months for me. In July, I posted here about how I had found a new role with a startup through IH, and I received a bunch of support and congratulations from you guys. (Thanks BTW!)

Well about a week into my new role, the founder told me that he is going to shut down the company, stating too much stress, the product's lack of focus, and that it was too far away from being ready for market.

He was self-funding the company, so I kind of understand where he was coming from, but still pretty confused by the complete 180 from "let's expand" to "I'm shutting it down" in about 7 days...

But, this story has a happy ending. A few weeks back, I joined another Indie Hacker, Vishal Kumar, in building a social media scheduling SaaS (similar to Buffer or MeetEdgar for those familiar) called OneUp ๐Ÿ˜Š

โ“Why would someone be interested in OneUp?

  • Many blog posts, podcasts, YouTube videos, or other social media posts are considered "evergreen" content - meaning that post will still be relevant and interesting 6, 12, and 18 months from now. The opposite of evergreen would be the trending flash-in-the-pan articles about "What whats-her-face wore to that awards ceremony last night".

  • When you share something on social media, it is typically only seen by 5% of your followers.

  • The idea behind OneUp is to provide an easy way to recycle your evergreen content automatically, making it seen by a much wider audience, and driving more engagement, traffic, and business. You just add a post, then select the interval and frequency that you would like it recycled.

For example, Courtland could probably reshare all his IH podcasts and text interviews once every 3 months and reach a new subset of followers every time. This would allow him to get new shares and retweets, and probably drive new podcast subscribers and community members - all without him having to lift a finger.

We will be launching on Product Hunt soon, so any feedback you guys have for us would be much appreciate! What should we change on the landing page? Is the value proposition clear?

    Loving your landing page, Davies!

I'm thinking of looking for a Hootsuite alternative (I only use it to re-schedule evergreen content), so this fits perfectly. I'll try it!

Thanks Jaime! Once you have a chance to check it out, I would love to hear your feedback ๐Ÿค“

Good stuff, I'm curious what your differentiators are from Edgar?

        Good breakdown thanks for sharing!

As a person who has been looking at buffer competitors recently this one looks really good. Can't wait to try it. All of the others are garbage. Good luck mate!

Thanks Matt! Let me know if you need any help or have any questions ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

Finally an update Davis, I was wondering when I will see it!

Cool concept. Besides PH, what is your marketing strategy?

    1. 2

Haha yeah, we've been working on some product improvements the last few weeks, so I have stayed quiet ๐Ÿค

Quora has a ton of questions with people looking for social media schedulers, so we plan on investing a good amount of time and energy there.

Content creation will also play a big role with SEO, where there is a ton of potential. This could be us creating content, or possibly our users creating content in the form of a fair product review on their blog for a discount in pricing.

Good stuff, yeah, I can see Quora traffic working on it. Sounds like a winner startup to me! I will be watching very closely :)

I haven't looked into the new Twitter ToS from Feb 2018 but are they fine with reposting the same "evergreen" content to a single account? I know they don't want the same content published to multiple accounts but thought I'd check...

Good question. If you set a Twitter post to repeat, OneUp actually deletes your old tweet before tweeting it again, which is 100% in line with Twitter's TOS ๐Ÿ˜Š

        Clever!

Nice job! Just fyi, the jobs page doesn't have any decriptions, and the titles themselves could have very different roles underneath them. It would be very helpful to add even simple job descriptions.

      Thanks for the feedback James!

    Congrats, Davis. Useful stuff!

    Congratulations!

Just a small suggestion. Repeat post doesn't specify if its week or month. In the Gif, it just says repeat after 3.

If I didn't see the first option was weekly I wouldn't know.

Thanks for the suggestion! We just fixed this and will update the GIF ๐Ÿ˜Š

    Congrats mate! Nice landing page.

A more mobile friendly home page would be great. Content has a very small size and it is hard to read.

    1. 2

Thanks Juan! Good call, optimizing for mobile is definitely on our to-do list

  10. 1

This all looks great the only thing I would try to do is improve the GIFs quality. Good luck!

    1. 1

Yeah, good call. Weโ€™re working on making them a little more clear ๐Ÿ‘

"still pretty confused by the complete 180 from 'let's expand' to 'I'm shutting it down' in about 7 days..."

That's a lesson in early stage founder psychology. It can be a real roller coaster.

OneUp is an Interesting twist on a familiar concept. Best of luck (i mean...hard work) with it!

    1. 1

100% agree with you. Thanks James!

  12. 1

    Congrats, Davis! ๐Ÿ˜Ž

I just couldn't find the URL of OneUp - is it possible you linked the wrong URL?

    1. 1

Should be fixed now! But here it is: https://www.oneupapp.io/

    Congrats sir!

The landing page looks good to me. The GIFs make it pretty easy to understand.
