I am getting ready to start reaching out to potential clients, but I don't want to send emails from a gmail account. I own a domain name, but I am unsure how to set up an email with my domain name. Do you guys have any suggestions? Business email through google seems like an easy option, but $5 a month for each email can quickly add up. How do you guys manage your emails?
G Suite offers the best value for cost for me.
I'll offer another vote for GSuite.
I second this. I use G Suite for all of my domains. It’s the easiest to for me to setup and manage. $5 per account isn’t that bad of a deal all things considered.
Currently using Mailgun with Gmail.
Mailgun allows you a certain # of emails per month and can properly forward from domain.com to any other email address.
I added the Mailgun domain to Gmail which allows me to choose my from address when composing an email.
I use the first paid tier with Zoho mail. I have about 4 domains connected to it. I think that you can use it for free with 1 domain. Doesn't hurt to try it out 😃
Btw G Suite or Zoho isn't $ per email, its per user inbox. You can have multiple aliases for one inbox. e.g support@ hello@
You can create an account per domain. You just need a unique phone number every time.
I also used Zoho and G Suite.
Zoho has a free tier which is nice for the beginning. But my partner had some trouble on his MacBook. He couldn't send or receive emails on some Wi-Fi networks. I myself never had problems.
G Suite is easier to set up and you also get Google Drive and so on.
What's your experience with Zoho guys? I was considering it, but after reading quite a few comments about their poor spam protection, I decided to go for G Suite.
I liked it. It's free in the end and has all the features I need. If you start with a couple of people G Suite fees easily add up. Also, I don't care too much about spam protection. But Zoho is definitely not as user-friendly as G Suite.
I was unaware you could have multiple aliases per inbox. Thanks for the feedback. Do you know if you can connect multiple domains to G Suite?
I believe you can set up an alias (that's what I did) for incoming e-mail. So when you send e-mail to hi@stackdraft.io, I get it, but you get a reply from foobar@unravel.eu (my company domain name). Wish you could send from an alias. For that, you'd need another G-suite subscription.
EDIT: Oh wow, check out the comment mentioning Google Domains!
I also like to keep costs low, but the $5 for gmail a month is one thing I always start with. Money well spent.
I'm on mailbox.org and it costs €1 per month.
I have used SES to send emails from web apps. I can help you with setting up AWS SES to send and receive email from your usual Gmail inbox. It costs pennies per month for any number of inboxes. You can contact me directly at bparanj at gmail dot com.
Personally,
I use dreamhost for managing my emails, and I've configured Gmail accounts that check and send emails through those addresses. Great support, never had issues.
If you want to try them out, I can send you a discount coupon.
I have previously used Webhosts that include email within their CPanel. This worked great to start with but the limitations I encountered was the inability to migrate (easily) if I ever changed Web host.
Now I use GSuite and have set up a catch all to make sure that a mistype (before the @) will still reach me and if I need to move the Website hosting I don't need to worry about migrating.
A non email related benefit I have found to GSuite is you get 30GB (or unlimited) GDrive space so can backup all your contents as well which is beneficial.
One of the reasons I built Startup Costs is to have things like this answered. The current most used email products by startups and side projects, based on the "email category" are: G Suite, Zoho mail and Fastmail. 😎
I used GSuite with multiple aliases and domains as others have commented. I paid for the $10 business plan because it gives you access to App Maker which is a low code development environment for internal apps.
You can use this for your admin app. It’s especially easy if your database is supported. I wrote (hacked) the user admin and transactional mailer for my site. I would have a bug/feature database if I kept going. You will need a GCP database subscription but there are free credits that can be used within 12 months.
1TB Google Drive storage is included for each user up to 5 users. Beyond 5 users it is unlimited. I wonder how to use this creatively?
Before: Mailgun forwarding into my Gmail account (free)
Now: One Fastmail account for ~3$ per month for all my domains
I use Gsuite and an added benefit of Gsuite is domain aliases. Say you can have one main email like
you@yourcompany.com. Then you setup a new domain for your productmyproduct.com.Using domain aliases you can link
myproduct.comto your Gsuite and now any email sent toyou@myproduct.comautomatically goes to your original email. You can also set it so if you send email you can choose which email address it's sent from.I use http://migadu.com, it's totally free with some limitations.
I use Google Domains, and they have free forwarding to gmail accounts, as well as a setup to respond from the domain name as well! The setup is a bit of work, but great for the price!
I would recommend G Suite for its value. There is also AWS WorkMail for $4/month.
I use GSuite. Messing around with mail servers is soul destroying. GSuite saves my soul. You still need to set up DKIM and various other bits and pieces to stay out of spam.
Gsuite is the best option. Use services from people or companies who are rad in that. And in this case, Google is that rad company in all perspective.
If you are reasonably comfortable with AWS SES and Lambda functions, you can swizzle up a solution which lets you send and receive email from your usual Gmail inbox but uses SES as your mail server. The entire thing costs pennies per month for any number of inboxes. As your team grows, you can configure mails sent to (say) support@mydomain.co to go to specific.user@gmail.
I used this setup until a couple of weeks ago. I switched to a hosted inbox by Amazon Workmail @ $4/user simply because I could write those off as business expenses.
If you have your own domain, you can easily obtain an email. Usually it doesn't cost much. For example, for namecheap where I buy domain names, it's just a $10/year. Pretty affordable, I think.
Also see Yandex. Offers free custom domain emails.
Indeed! I am currenly using Yandex for my many domains. It offers fully functional suite to manage your email addresses belongs to the domain.
