How to I talk to my cutomers?

Hi Everyone,

I run an online video editing website called VEED ( www.veed.io )

We goal is to make online video editing simple and fun.

Each week we get over 500 users editing a video, but only about 10% of those users end up rendering and downloading the videos. I also can't tell if the users that are rendering videos are happy with the product. I have tried emailing my current users and asking for feedback, but I have had only a few responses. I get the feeling that they don't feel invested in it.

I think this is happening because we have not tried to acquire specific users. This has happened because we have been building microsites to improve SEO and backlinks and its worked!

What I think I need to do, is pick a specific user group or market and speak to them about their needs and get product feedback. Then I need to try and acquire those customers to the platform.

There are three things I would really like your help with.

  1. If you know anyone who works in content marketing. Can you put me in contact with them (my email is s@veed.io)

  2. How do you think I should go about speaking to users? (where to find them, what should I ask)

  3. How should I acquire better users to the product?

  4. What are your thought on the product, should I specialise more?

Thank you all

Make your e-mails more personal: "Hi x, I'm Sabba from veed. I was wondering if you liked how your video turned out. Let me know how it went, and if you have a little time for me to ask you a few other quick questions." (or something... maybe)

You can also require them to enter an e-mail earlier in the process, if you're not already, so you can try contacting people who didn't follow through.

I tried it out, and that actually seemed pretty cool! Admittedly, I don't know what other video services are around. I can imagine features where you place the items at certain times and they fade-in/out, but no idea if it's worthwhile.

No comments on the marketing side. Sounds like you're better at it than I am :)

Take a look at how Offeo just launched on PH. They went with a closed beta, then launched on PH with a pre-sale discount offer. The site has tons of gifs showing how the features work, testimonials from beta users, and previous brands they've done work with before to build credibility.

A few things you can do is focus on who creates video ads for their job? FB Ad agencies, freelancers, video producers. Do you know where they already hang out? There are a ton of options for video editing for social media on web and mobile at different price points.
