The word nip isn't used all over the usa, or anywhere afaik. What's it mean? Have you researched this? I've never heard the word other than in a racist sense. You might get some weird reactions as you expand.
The 4th definition down on that link. I've heard of "taking a nip" of alcohol as in drink a little bit. I think the context clarifies the intention and it's also a little play on the word pinata.
