How we met on Indie Hackers, built a quick MVP and made millions, eh... got some interest

Hey @patrics - congrats on the launch and progress so far!

What I don't quite get (from the landing page/article) is who this product is useful for (and why they need it).

    Can you elaborate? Thanks :)

      Hey Louis, thanks!

IndieIgnitor.com is meant for developers and marketers who either

      • want to build a plugin / extension business on one of the existing platforms and have problems choosing one over the other

      • or already have a plugin business and want to expand their distribution to other marketplaces

They need it to find and choose a platform which is growing, has demand but is lacking the supply. In other words to find a good business opportunity and reduce risk + save time while doing so.

      Does that make sense?

I'm wanting to use Airtable for a project as well. The front-end you guys built for this is great. Would love to learn more about how you went about that.

haha I both hate and love your title, I guess you could be blacklisted for it on numerous platform :)

Haha, I hope you love it just a bit more than you hate it ;-)

I like the story, the site, and the tool you've built! As a WordPress plugin developer, it's nice to see something in this space. However, I have a few concerns:

    • Your screenshot shows you'll have user counts, downloads from last 30 days, etc.. But I'm fairly certain not every platform is having this data and it's too much to scrape. With that in mind, what if I'm only interested in data from one platform, but it turns out there's not much publically available for it?

    • The data you provide today doesn't seem enough to make a calculated decision as to what platform to choose for someone's next app. For example Liferay themes are sold at $1000 per license, so 10 downloads would be a good profit. However, from a statistics point of view, 10 might seem low. On the other hand, 50K WordPress plugins seems a lot, but the platform also powers millions of websites.

    • Even though I am your target audience, I don't think I'll end up paying for it because it's too expensive and I don't see the value unless there's way more data.

      Thanks for the feedback @poehah.

Are there certain platforms you're particularly interested in at the moment?

The data you provide today doesn't seem enough

Price per unit seems important to you. Is there anything else which comes to mind which would be useful to see?

    Cool idea!

    Some quick feedback:

    • site isn't mobile friendly (discovery can happen on mobile)

    • I think paying for a tool is ok, but the tool is just buying some data

    • another way for you to monetize is to present the data to non technical entrepreneurs and connect them with technical freelancers or experts that can build their plugin right on your platform

    Best,

    Tony

      Hey Tony,

thanks for your feedback! I like the idea of connecting non-technical folks with the platform experts...

Essentially you would be paying for a tool which enables your contious access to the data and beeing able to anlyze it. If you dont see value in the data itself the tool will not be valuable either.

Maybe @csallen can look up the view-stats for the old article? I think back in the days the view-count was shown at the article. But not anymore, right?

Got a link? I can look it up for sure.

@jay @patrics Looks like that thread has 1,655 pageviews, which is pretty high. 👍

Awesome – thanks for getting back to us @csallen!
