I didn't think people would use PayPal. I was wrong.

I run a small digital asset store Bootstrap Logos. Last month someone asked if I would ever consider accepting payments through PayPal. At first, I brushed this aside. But I set it up after I realized it was only going to take 20 minutes for me to set it up. Since then about 40% of my purchases have been through PayPal. Most of these are users outside the U.S.

Setting up PayPal was definitely a win for me. If it's easy for you to set up it may be worth testing out.

Has anyone else had a similar story?

  1. 1

I know a lot of SaaS and subscription businesses using PayPal as a sole processor. At my previous SaaS, we used PayPal only, too.

A cautionary note about PP - if you intend on selling the business, you're going to have hard times transferring your PP account to another owner. It only works with transfers to people from the same country and even then the bureaucracy of the process is more than what most are willing to deal with.

I've implemented PayPal in SaaS and was not a fan - a lot of customers will use it as a shield to issue chargebacks, there were surprisingly a lot of billing errors / problems. I found monetization significantly higher with Stripe.

I agree with you (I can not use Stripe in my country), from what I see european market use more Paypal and the Russian market use more QIWI .
