Hey Indie Hackers 👋
I'm new here, and this is my first post.
👎 Bad
I'm a non-CS college student. I spend a lot of my time learning to code. Mostly on web development. I enjoy programming, but I feel like I'm in an illusion that I'm doing something productive when in the end I realized it isn't. Sometimes, I work on a side project for months then I completely dropped it because I think that wasn't a good idea anymore. I wonder if anyone here ever experiences something similar. Let me know if you do.
👍 Good
I decided to challenge myself to ship a product in a month. I managed to finish it. It's a browser extension that let you check and adjust contrast according to WCAG guidelines.
My first product ever😄: Kontrast
I'm glad I've done it. I would love to hear feedback from you all. Thank you
Better & Best :
Business success is not necessarily built upon technical excellence but on business savvy.
I worked for a multi-national computer company for a decade and knew many very clever programmers. I changed jobs to another multi-national computer company and knew more very clever programmers.
Particularly in my first company (Cray), some of the people I knew had degrees in subjects I could barely pronounce, let alone understand.
True story: when Cray was making redundancies in the UK, I overheard two of these very clever programmers with degrees in subjects I could barely pronounce discussing the lay offs.
As with an unbelievable number of otherwise highly intelligent people I have met over the years, these two were blaming "the accountants". As I was working in accounts at the time, I took umbrage and explained that the accountants simply reported what was happening. We were not responsible for making - or failing to make - the sales. We were not responsible for managing the departmental expenses because that was the job of the operational managers. Literally, all we could do was say "we are spending more than we are making and someone needs to change some things".
I could see that this was not as clear an explanation as I would have liked. Exasperated, I asked, "How do you think you earn the money you are paid each month?"
True answer from the astro-physicist programmer: "I thought the bank paid us."
And he genuinely did.
Something else I can tell you about some of the most advanced programmers in the world.
They are nearly all salaried employees. The brightest team up with business-minded people so that they have shares in the companies for which they work. Why? Because they are undeniably highly valuable assets ... but businessmen most of them most definitely are not.
Don't worry about your programming ability. Worry more about your ability to spot and exploit market opportunities.
When you have done that, you can always hire a programmer to tidy up behind you.
Good work on the Landing page. The animated demo gets straight to the point.
Wow, seriously! The extension looks good, and it's completely clear what it does and why it's useful quickly!
Thank you. Actually, I worried it became awkward because I circle contrast score every time I make change lol
I really like the name and the landing page - clean, nice looking and engaging! Awesome work!
I'm checking your app Night Eye recently. Man, that's awesome! Not to mention it has tons of users.
I would love to hear more about your experience working on a browser extension, maybe I'll send you a DM soon
Sure, send me a DM and I will be happy to share anything with you :)
Hey @stan121, just to let you know - I'm on a Macbook Pro and I immediately noticed you probably steal the default scrolling behavior on your landing page. I personally hate that, but at least it's a comment that doesn't address your product, so do as you wish :). HTH, cheers.
Hey, not sure what you mean?
Hey man. Either you changed something, or the comment was referring to a different IH story, sorry! The scrolling on your page works as expected. Sometimes pages steal the default scrolling behavior and that's immediately noticable. That's what I meant, but not (any more?) valid in your context! :)
I'm pretty sure this comment refers to the owner of the IH story and not me. :)
AH! Good lead, bad conclusion. In my last reply I checked out OPs page and thought that's what I referred to earlier.
The problem refers to YOUR site my friend! I opened your profile and launched https://nighteye.app/ . The scrolling experience is terrible. This is your problem:
You're stealing default scrolling experience of the browser. No hate, just constructive feedback. Hope you find this helpful and remove that ascrail2000/nicescroll, cose it's not nice :D.
Looks good! Are you going to launch on PH? Seems like it would do well there.
Pardon my ignorance, what is PH?

Thank you, after posting that I went to look at the latest podcasts and saw the interview with Ryan Hoover. :)
Absolutely, but my account hasn't become a contributor yet. Thanks for your feedback😄
Great!!! , there are many developers who never try it , I am glad you did it finally. I think the website looks perfect for the show what really does . I think your project will succesfull and soon I want to hear more products about you
Wow! That means a lot, thanks
I love the fact that this product is very polished and finished. Keep going and you will be a very powerfull creator :)
Really nice plugin! How do you see the future of it?

Congratulations, I was in a similar boat as you but manage to make a few side projects.
Thanks, Azhan. After finishing this, I can't wait to start working on my next product in October
