If I'm merging databases every week, am I doing something incredibly wrong?
This wasn't my design but now I have to live with it. I desperately want to change it but need to somehow convince the team. Any tips would be appreciated.

What do you mean when you say that you have to merge the databases?
Can you give us some more details about the tech stack and your setup?
You will need to provide more details about your specific setup - what database systems you're using, hosting situation, network traffic numbers, etc.
Perhaps you can automate your database merging process. Again, that would depend on the kind of setup you are currently running.
Work on a solution (maybe an alternate database solution, or different database schema), and then use a sample dataset of 500-1000 records to confirm that your solution won't break anything else, and then show it to your team.
If you have already worked out a solution, then there is less chance for them to say no to it.
