IH-Inspired: Discover startups in 10 words or less. Submit yours!

Hey IH!

You've probably seen "Explain your startup in 10 words" pt1 pt2. I thought it was a neat way to quickly learn about projects, without the usual marketing fluff or flashy graphics.

So I chatted with OP (hey Adith!) and built 10words to send a weekly email with bite-sized startup descriptions.

It's definitely an MVP, and I hope to hear ideas from the community while we prep the first mailer. In the meantime, if you would like to subscribe or submit your project, that would be awesome!

10words: Weekly email to discover new startups in < 10 words

Nice work Chris! This will be very useful for makers who want to know what other makers are building, to discover interesting apps and to get some inspiration, in the shortest time possible. I've signed up already :)

Awesomly simple site which holds potential value to the idea. Looking forward to the newsletter!

    Great idea, just signed up!

Nice concept! I subscribed, although I agree with Bart that the website It is not very appealing for startup people

I took a shot at a new design - what do you think? (May need to refresh your browser)

I think it looks better but still not sure if you will get the best conversion from it. Maybe you should do some A/B testing. Look at https://scottscheapflights.com/ (previously interviewed on indie hackers) clear and big value prop and simple call to action. I am not a UI expert though so please feel free to ignore me haha

    I really like this Idea.

How many emails are you planning to send per week?

    1. 3

Thanks! Just one email per week to start. If submissions come in faster than we can send them out, we may increase the frequency to 2 or 3x with a 'best of' list at the end of the week for those who just want a weekly digest.

The benefit of only 10 words per startup means we can put a decent number of projects in each email without the reader feeling overwhelmed.

I'm certainly open to hearing any thoughts on curating the submissions and frequency of mailers :)

        thats sounds great.

Can't wait for the first email!

Great project, really great use case for those who need to pitch their product as well. I like it!

  8. 2

Awesome. I just signed up for subscribe and also submit my project.

I also run a newsletter for Non Technical Founder ( I submitted this) : https://letterfuel.com/non-technical-founder/

Can't wait for your first curation!

Signed up. I like the idea and the no-frills design. FWIW - I did get a green "alert" for success after I submitted my email.

    1. 1

Thanks for the feedback! I've been tweaking all day and managed to sneak in the green alerts earlier.

Great concept, awesome idea, but the website... is not attracting me to put my email in the submission field.

    1. 1

Thanks for the feedback Bart - what is it about the site? Does it feel untrustworthy, half-baked, etc? Just trying to figure out what it is that might drive people away.

I specifically chose not to do the usual fancy/pretty landing page to fit the theme of the project, but it definitely can (and will) be improved upon.

      1. 1

Yes, it is hard to say if it is a new site following a geeky trend or just old site.

I get that its minimalism, but the first thing I wonder - if the security behind this site is minimalist as well? Will my email get leaked?

The minimalist design as yours for non-developer, non-coder and no-backend related products should not be implemented imo. It will hurt your conversion rates.

        1. 2

I'll start A/B testing some other design elements and styles. My target will continue to be no-frills, but hopefully can give off a more professional vibe.

We'll see what sticks - thanks again!

Looks great! More modern, still minimalistic, but "good" modern. Now I can safely sign up and become a supporter!

Waiting for first email in my inbox!

I like the minimalist design, but a little bit of green on success messages would help. Wasn't sure it even submitted at first.

    1. 1

Yeah, I might have overdone it on the plain design. It started as 'just get something up', but the simplicity is growing on me. A few colors in the right spots make sense though. Thanks for the submission!
