Hello friends, really nice community here, and I enjoy reading about your side-projects. Here is something about me:

👔 Working in the past 10 years as UX /UI designer, switching back and forth between companies and freelance, currently working remote for Knowlocker Inc and developing side-projects in spare time.

🤖 Built and automated a self-sustainable & profitable website: sending newsletters, posting to social networks, generating income from advertising, etc. It was product of the day and week on Product Hunt. Here is a compilation of mentions on BBC World News, FOX Business News, Tech Crunch, This Week in Startups: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NEj_RhDN-_4

🤑 Built and maintained a side-project for crowdsourced domain recommendations. Been working on it for six months with community of 500+ users and sold it to Brand Bucket.

👤 Currently working on UI Faces, an aggregator of free profile photos that can be used in design mockups. Still a few points on the to-do list before it's finished.

📋 This weekend I've built Mono.name from a CSV list of available domains we've been maintaining in the past few years.

    1. 4

Excellent projects and very impressive portfolio.

    2. 3

      Loved UI Faces, great tool!

    3. 2

      Really fantastic stuff.

    4. 2

you have an impressive portfolio. kudos!

    5. 2

Cool stuff, Alex! Great to meet you!

Hi everyone, Joe here, a long time Indie Hacker listener. Ever since the day I started listening, I set a plan for myself that I'm gonna join Indie Hacker the day I created my very first product, and the day is today, I've been working on my web app / Chrome extension https://kmppp.com for the last 2 months, and now it's out of the door, and I'd like to share it with all fellow hackers, to get your input, and learn from you all :D

    1. 5

      Welcome, Joe!

Ever since the day I started listening, I set a plan for myself that I'm gonna join Indie Hacker the day I created my very first product, and the day is today

This is awesome. Congratulations on reaching this milestone!

It's an intriguing service. I'll have to think about a website I want to be notified about in this way — though the busier I've gotten, the more I've tried to find ways to reduce the number of notifications that grab my attention rather than increasing it. 🤔

      1. 3

Hi Channing, thanks for the warm welcome. Good point, if you look at this from a different angle, that's actually what this service is for.

I think good technology should not trap people inside of their websites or apps, instead, it should enable people to spend less time refreshing their browsers, and more time on the things that truly matter. For that purpose, my service watches things you care about on the web for you, and notifies you only when there is a update :D

    2. 2

Just want to say that this is genius! I've definitely felt the need for something like this before, I love things like this which let me set things up to be notified about something, after which I can just safely forget about it. I'll definitely give this a go next time I need to do that. Do you have any plans to monetize this?

      1. 1

Hi Bob, so glad to hear you think this idea is good :D

And yes, I've been thinking about a plan to monetize this, and I'd like to share my thought with you.

The initial thought was to charge it if user wants to setup more subscriptions, beyond 3 for example, or the frequency of checking updates, cause the more my service is being used my, the more I'll need to pay for it myself (I'm using aws lambda as the backend, and it charges by time my function runs), that sounds reasonable, right?

However, just as how I built it, I always try put me into user's shoe, as a user, I don't really like that (I might change my mind after seeing my bill from aws, lol). So what will make me to be happily willing to pay for such a service?

Personally, I think the core of this service is success of delivery, if I expect this service keep me posted on something that I'm interested, you better delivery it. And that turns out to be the hardest part, the reason being, web can be hard to work with from site to site, the site you're interested to get notification from, might have a messy HTML structure, it might changes it's layout, there's just so many variables that could cause my spider failed to get its job done.

That's why I'm thinking how about to ask user to pay for the chance of success rate? In order to achieve a higher success rate, I'm thinking to setup a watch on another watch (dream within another dream, Inception style, lol), a watch that notifies me when the other watch stop working property, so that I could go in and do whatever I'll need to do to fix it. I know it does not sound like a scalable plan, but, I'm not trying to build a service serves millions of unhappy users, I just want to build a small thing that makes small group of users happy ^_^

        How's that sound to you?

        1. 1

Hi Joe, this is a really cool product that I'm definitely going to try once I can think of something I want to be notified about. I had two thoughts to share: one about onbaording and the other about possible monetization strategies.

          Onboarding:

I really like the landing page however a bit more information demonstrating how I'd use kmppp and why I'd use kmppp would be helpful.

For the how, the demonstration could just be a short animation or video. For the why I think you'll be able to add that in as you get more information about user usage. Like if you're tracking domains then you could broadly see that maybe people are mainly using it to track fashion item prices. With the usage information you could stear me towards setting up my first alert on something I might be interested in when I first visit the landing page.

          Monetization:

I really like your idea about charging for a success rate. I also think (and inspired by you're great 'About' page!) that you have two potential customers: Non-dev users & Dev users.

As a Non-Dev user I wouldn't like the idea of a per-notification (or per-group of notifications) charge because then my overall monthly bill wouldn't be consistent and that would be a pain to budget for and manage. I think that a freemium model with 3 tiers would work well. The following are the features I think each tier might be based on:

          a) Number of Subs

          b) Monthly Number of Notifications

          c) Watch on Watch (WoW) - Better Success Rate

          d) Multiple Distribution Channels: being able to also receive notifications via SMS, WhatsApp, etc

          The tier proposal:

          1. Free: a) 3-5; b) You'll determine based on usage; c) No; d) No

          2. Premium: a) 10-20; b) You'll determine based on usage; c) Yes; d) No

          3. Super Premium: a) Unlimited; b) Unlimited; c) Yes; d) Yes

One of the interesting Non-dev users you might end up getting are the teens and young adults who are heavily into sneaker and fashion culture and are always looking to get items and resell them later.

For Dev users I think a charge per-api call model works.

Hope this helps in some way and great project!

          1. 2

            Hi Ato,

Thank you so much for your feedback!

I definitely thought about doing a cool animated intro video, but just don't have the skill to pull it off, I'll add that to my to-be-learned list, lol.

And thank you for liking my about page :) I was thinking about the same thing, I mean to turn it into a 2D (to developer) service, make it free for non-dev users, and charge it for api call, my current implementation can actually do that fairly easily. I don't want to overdo it, as you said, try to understand a bit about how the users are using the service, then add only the necessary features gradually.

Thanks again, try it out, if you have any other ideas, write to me, I'll love to hear more from you :)

            1. 1

Thanks, I'm glad that some of it was helpful! I'll definitely try it out and let you know if I have other ideas.

I wish you all the best with kmppp. Once you start making some revenue I'm looking forward to your IH interview and podcast!

              1. 1

LOL, I don't think that will happen any time soon, but thanks Ato, and sorry for the late response, I've been busy working on my second side project of the year :)

    3. 1

Hey, in your about section, I think the year of the release date is wrong on the timeline! I suppose it's 2018 and not 2017.

EDIT: actually you have that mistake at quite a few places. Otherwise great service!

      1. 1

Hi Martin, thanks! I had corrected them. Orz

    4. 1

Very cool Joe! I was just thinking the other day that I needed something like this, so well-played!

      1. 1

Thanks Buddy, means a lot to me!

Hi, I'm Gary / IH, founder of isoHunt previously. Now working on 🔍 WonderSwipe.com, a mobile search app that through both frontend and backend wizardry, can bring dramatic speedup to the overall search experience: 10-100x faster. Because browsers are dumb, especially UI in mobile browsers.

I've tried and failed on quite a few spinoff projects in the isoHunt days, such as Hexagon (a social network around file sharing) and Justsaw.it (like Pinterest Lens, which is now going beyond what I had in mind). If I get to do it all over again, I'd fail faster and iterate more.

My general advice on entrepreneurship: daydream a lot. I do it in the shower. It's where my best ideas are born and iterated on in my head. Don't give up, listen but learn to ignore the noise but accept constructive criticism. Great artists steal, and I intend on stealing from the greatest and make them my own (emphasis on the last part). And on startups, to succeed, do something either nobody thought of yet (isoHunt, the niche search engine for file sharing/BitTorrent sites, which was a first in 2003), or do something so dramatically better in an existing product category that users can't ignore it (iPod, iPhone, and WonderSwipe I hope)

    1. 3

Hi, I'm Gary / IH, founder of isoHunt previously

No way! Makes me nostalgic — spent a good bit of time there.

Now working on WonderSwipe.com, a mobile search app that through both frontend and backend wizardry, can bring dramatic speedup to the overall search experience: 10-100x faster

Intriguing. Got an estimated launch date yet?

Great artists steal, and I intend on stealing from the greatest and make them my own.

Great advice, especially for indie hackers.

      1. 2

No way! Makes me nostalgic — spent a good bit of time there.

Good to "see" old timers ;)

Intriguing. Got an estimated launch date yet?

Within a month. Got the beta crash-free afaik, I'm working on marketing stuff (app demo videos and graphics) to launch on the App Store. Sign up on WonderSwipe.com if you like to try the beta now.

Otherwise, nice site and community you got here. It was actually my ex-coworker with isoHunt that recommended IH. Which also interestingly overlaps with my nickname I used to have with isoHunt, lol.

Curious, how are the interviews here setup?

        1. 2

nice site and community you got here. It was actually my ex-coworker with isoHunt that recommended IH.

Thanks! Good to hear — it's a big point of frustration not being able to track and measure the amount of people who come here via word-of-mouth, so "anecdata" is always welcome.

Curious, how are the interviews here setup?

Here's the cliffnotes version; let me know and I can go into further detail.

          1. user submits an interview application at this link

          2. I review the application, and if I accept it I send them our standard interview questionnaire (e.g. "What are you working on?" "What motivated you to get started?" "What went into building the product?" etc.)

          3. interviewee writes up answers on their own time and gets back to me when done

          4. I make a final edit and put it online with their final sign off

    2. 2

I couldn't agree more. The shower is such a great place for the brain to ponder on ideas. You're away from other people/influences, and something about the relaxing environment allows you to really think. Glad to see others do too!

  4. 6

Hi everyone. My name is Aleš Krivec. I graduated with a degree in computer science and worked for some time as a PL/SQL developer.

My co-founder Aleš Žagar and I founded https://premiumcoding.com in 2011, hoping to develop WordPress themes and plugins. We are currently focused on blog themes, so our primary audience consists of bloggers all around the world.

Our goals for 2018 are to increase the presence of our own shop and add several more themes to enhance our yearly subscription package.

For me the best ideas always come when I hike (forest, hills, mountains).

    1. 1

"the best ideas always come when I hike" reminds me of Deep Work by Cal Newport. Best of luck!

  5. 6

Hi, I'm Carter and I'm a freelance developer in Canada.

For my day job I build web apps for my clients, mainly MVPs, some of which have now lived long enough to become legacy apps. When I'm not building someone else's app I'm usually working on my own projects.

My main side project right now is Forte Chat, which is a marketplace platform for independent experts and enthusiasts to make a living giving help and advice over video chat. It's very near to launching, though I've done no real marketing yet (I know, I know). It's built in Elixir and Phoenix, which I decided to use this project to learn a year ago. I'm hoping that I can eventually make Forte an umbrella brand for many things that help people make an independent living.

This might sound strange but my main motivation for becoming an indie hacker is that I want to grow the number of people working independently. I actually already make enough money to be happy, though I'd like to do that even more independently than I do now.

I think that employment as it is today is fundamentally flawed for a variety of reasons and that if a larger percentage of people worked independently, both society and the individuals would benefit greatly. Even if people had an independent income on top of employment, I think we'd see a lot happier and better off people. I could go for days on this so I'll stop here :)

    Thanks for reading!

    1. 2

Forte Chat sounds totally interesting! I've been thinking about offering coaching and training services this way for a while. I'm very interested to see it when it launches!

    2. 2

This resonates with me so much! Forte Chat sounds like a great idea. Please keep me updated!

  6. 5

    Hi guys

I'm a software engineer by day and a clueless hacker at night. I really want to launch an app so decided to join and introduce myself. Hopefully this will be an opportunity to learn a ton of things.

    1. 1

      Hi clueless

I just joined the website out of whim after reading a medium post. I may be presumptuous, but I feel like you want to work on something, but not know quite what. If you're ever interested in working on an education platform, hit me up.

      1. 1

        Hi MisterJK

I am working on a start up right now. Hopefully I can get it launch within a month :)

        Thanks for the offer!

  7. 4

Hello! I've just joined after learning about Indie Hackers from the great article about working at Google from Michael Lynch, where he mentioned the site (https://mtlynch.io/why-i-quit-google/).

I've had my own small - never more than two people, and for a long time just me - consulting company, specializing in Microsoft SharePoint and Office 365. Almost ten years in, I think it's working!

I love being independent and able to decide how much and how hard I work. It's totally changed my life for the better.

It's not an easy road to this, though. It took a good few years to find my sea legs fully and figure out how to make a name for myself to bring in business. I've been very lucky that I made some decisions early on that paid off - but were almost unintentional! I wrote an open source library to ease the use of SharePoint's SOAP APIs, and that led to a lot of great thing. But it was almost an accident, just something I thought would be cool to do.

All in all, life is good.

Hi everybody - my name is Josh, and I’m based in Madison, WI.

I was the technical co-founder / CTO of a successful managed Internet security company in the late ‘90s. I ran engineering, product, and operations as we grew from a bootstrapped 2-person team to a profitable ~50 person company. The startup experience was a great deal of fun and challenge.

We were acquired by a slightly larger company in ‘07, and I stayed on in an Engineering leadership position following the acquisition. The acquirer went on to do over a dozen acquisitions while growing ~10x over the next decade. I was responsible for the teams delivering a number of products in our large portfolio, and worked closely with the CTO on our big-picture product/technology strategy. This was all interesting work and brought its own challenges, but I realized after a decade plus that the larger, more established company just wasn’t my speed.

So I’ve left that job, and set out to find my next thing. I want to make things, whether solo, in a small team of collaborators, with a young company, or by starting something new.

I’ve got a few ideas I’m exploring, but none really in a position to coherently talk about. In the meantime, I’m interested in finding a mix of non-day-job ways to earn some income while I look for the right thing to throw myself fully into.

I recently found the IH podcast, and have been really enjoying catching up listening to past episodes (thanks, @csallen!). I’m totally new to the forum, but from what I’ve seen so far it looks like a great place, and one I’m excited to participate in.

Hi, I'm a freelance developer from the UK. I've been working remotely for over 10 years and I'm working on an idea that I hope eventually will solve some problems for remote freelancers.

    1. 1

Another Remote freelance developer in the UK here if you need help.

    2. 1

I'm a remote freelancer (for 10 years now) so keep me on your short list for beta testing and/or feedback.

    3. 1

As a remote freelancer (also from the UK). I'm looking forward to seeing what you come up with. Good Luck!

  10. 4

Hi Everyone, reading through everyone's responses is truly motivating. My name is Glenn and I've recently moved from the U.S. to Cambodia to start an online development/consulting business focusing on simple wp websites for income but my real passion is in developing apps (web, android and pc).

    AlignmentApps.com is my consulting/development website

In my free time, I've been working on Crypto Contacts, an android app that lets users easily store and share public key crypto addresses on their phones. I'd love some feedback if you have any or comments on any new features you'd like to see.

    CryptoContactsApp.com

    1. 2

Hi, I just downloaded your app CryptoContacts. Not to be mean or anything but the screenshots and images on your website are stretched out for me and it makes the website look less professional.

      1. 2

Super helpful actually, I just threw up images as placeholders and was planning to fix them but completely forgot. Thanks for the reminder!

  11. 4

Hi Channing, great to meet you and everyone on here! I am completely new to the community. Here's my story.

I am a marketer turned programmer. I am a self-taught developer. Love to work with Rails and React, although currently, I am quite excited about building voice apps.

In my spare time, I started an apparel company for non-iron dress shirts. Mostly, because I wanted to solve my own problem. I wanted a practical solution to an unavoidable problem. The company is called DULO Wear and you can have a look here: https://weardulo.com

I'd love to connect here with other like-minded doers. Would love to help with opinions, advice and whichever way I can :)

    Cheers!

    1. 2

Welcome. I got Julian's interview submission and look forward to seeing your story presented more officially to the IH audience!

      1. 2

Thanks! Looking forward and hopefully our story and experience can be useful to others.

  12. 3

Hi I am a software developer with experience in enterprise applications. Not much experience with web e-commerce solutions and marketing. Learning how to market, launch and scale my latest advanture. FakeAVacation.com. We make fake vacation pictures. Primary target group are social travelers and privacy activist. Any feedback or suggestions would be appreciated. I also created a separate thread for feedback on main page

    1. 1

Hey Tommy, thanks for joining and being so active in the community. Looking forward to future iterations of FakeAVacation.com and any sites you launch in the future. 💪

  13. 3

    Hello everyone!

Love the community and learning from all of your side projects.

I am a javascript developer that is looking to build a side project that is actually solves a problem for other people and hopefully can generate a little bit of revenue at some point.

    1. 1

Awesome. Don't hesitate to start with something small and even low-quality to begin your IH journey. It'll help get you into the momentum of building, and it'll also give you an excuse to start conversations with other indie hackers on this forum who can help steer you in different and better directions. 👍

  14. 3

Hi, I'm Ruben. During the day I work in data science consulting. At night I am roaming the web looking for a place to have some impact. Current focus is learning how to be a one man marketing machine for my latest project "Crowdfunding with readers choice aka Bibres.com". P.S. I'm Zurich based, would love to get a coffee with any other Indie Hackers

  15. 3

Hi Everyone! I'm Jerry, been working as a former Software Engineer (mostly Java backend) for 10 years. I got a bit bored and burnt out and took the previous year off to travel.

I'm back, refreshed, and am just starting to work on a 12 startups in 12 months goal. I think its good because I'm excited to be working in and learning frontend but need to make sure I don't get lost in the tech and that I actually ship. I get so much inspiration hearing about everyone's projects!

    1. 1

Awesome. Looking forward to seeing some of them!

  16. 3

Hi there! I'm Dmitry and I'm a software engineer with >10 years of experience in different areas, mostly focused on desktop/mobile apps and switched back to indie development. My current project is Paste (https://pasteapp.me). It started a few years ago as an experiment with UI for desktop apps and has grown to more than 35K active users. Right now I'm working on the iOS version and hope to launch it very soon.

    1. 2

      Hi Dmitry!

Can you share some information on your project? Have you created it on your own? Do you earn money with it?

      Thanks!

  17. 3

Hey all, I'm Rob and I work mainly as a freelance video editor and producer in Brooklyn (roberto.tv). Probably like many others here, I have a sizable list of side interests, ideas and projects I may or may not ever get to. I don't know a single line of code, but I suppose my indie hacker "angle" is trying to build things online without any code.

I've been lurking here for several months drooling at people's side-projects-turned-into-actual-things, and I've finally decided to join and share my progress building my first side-thing, mostly as a way to keep myself accountable, I guess.

I've been collecting domain names for a few years and have become fascinated with names and naming, so my first side-thing is a little marketplace I'm building for selling brandable names and logos on Nametree.com.

I'll also be sharing what I've learned about naming best practices and how to find/get the domain names you want on Nametree.blog. I know it's all been done before (what hasn't), but let's just say it's my effort to make something out of this obsession I have with names. :)

    1. 1

      Welcome!

    Hey everyone 👋

I've been following IH for few months and recently I decided to signup and start sharing my ideas.

I'm a graduated architect, but couple years ago I decided to focus on UI/UX and Branding design. I was always a big enthusiast of bringing my ideas into life, starting from the first sketch and finishing with a working product. I love to work on the brands – from concept development, through naming and branding process and to launching marketing strategy. I was also a big fan of "code" so whenever there is a possibility for that, I try myself as frontend developer.

I've tried to make alive multiple digital products in the past, but I always ended up with some early concept and never managed to deliver. But when this year started, I knew that I need to finally ship something. So I did – with meetemu.com :) We are still in very early stage, but since IH community is really helpful, we've decided to start sharing our progress (and asking feedback questions) with you guys.

Good luck to everyone with their projects, and — please IH — don't ever end!

  19. 3

Hi, my name is Cameron. I'm a freelance designer/front-end developer. I love the community at Indie Hackers, but haven't actually finished my first side-project yet 😅

Hopefully I'll have something worth showing soon, but until then my design portfolio is at https://cameronarrington.com/

    1. 3

I love the community at Indie Hackers, but haven't actually finished my first side-project yet 😅

I suspect most of our members are in the same shoes, so no worries. Just keep going!

  20. 3

Hi, my name is Lee, I live in the Uk, I don't code but have skills in other places such as: relationship marketing, advanced sales, and many more.

I started an online community back in 2013 which is still going strong: (nearly 100k active users). I'm always on the look out for possible business ventures, I have the skillsets to help grow startups, and the time to work on side projects too.

    1. 2

What's the online community? I'd like to check it out!

      1. 1

Since we're on a forum I tend not to spam it on here. You could PM if you like providing it's not breaking any rules.

Hi y'all, ex-programmer here, I'm restarting my indie hacker journey after many years of not programming or building anything IT related at all.

In the past I've failed as many times as I tried to make something for others (twice for a total of 6 months lost coding time). I'm rusty but my latest idea has me motivated to do what ever it takes to succeed this time. It helps that this time I answered a resounding YES to all of Intercom's "starting up" checklist:

    1. Is this a real problem people want solved?

    2. Do I have the experience with this problem that will help solve it?

    3. Can I build something that is magical, and is substantially better than existing products?

Would have been nice to know these primer q's before I can tell you!

    1. 1

👋I love using Intercom's startup checklist too. A helpful way to think about which ideas to pursue

    2. 1

      Hey @ad_hero , welcome!

What did you do during your time off from IT, if it's not a secret of course 😄?

Good luck with the future project that ticks all 3 😉

    Hi All -

I'm Cam, one of the founders of TrapFi -- automated business management for independent developers. Invite your talent network and add projects/tasks. We handle task value, assignment, legal, payouts and more.

I started this project in July with 2 friends, our goal is to fix 3 things:

    • Frequency: indie work is unpredictable, 3 months of no work then 3 months of too much work

    • Communication: explaining specs, etc. over and over to subcontractors gets exhausting

    • Payments: payment solutions are fragmented, there still isn't a go-to solution in contract work and this can lead to repetitive awkward conversations

We're transitioning from MVP to launching a closed beta of v1 this week, you can sign up for early access at TrapFi. I would love for you to check it out and share any feedback or thoughts.

Hi, I'm Dennis and currently working as a web developer in Sweden. I use Drupal, PHP, JavaScript as my tools of the trade.

My goal is to start freelancing alongside my full-time job and /or build a software business. I have no idea yet on what software business to work on.

Freelancing is what is on top of my priority list for now as I lay plans for a software business.

I am looking forward to learning a great deal from this awesome community and also help out whenever I can.

This was my path too, so I can't help but to endorse it. 😉 Welcome to IH!

Hi, I'm Alex and I am working in my free time on a simple site with Hebrew verb conjugations and other Hebrew word inflections, https://www.pealim.com. Currently, I am in search of ideas for value-added services that I can launch to monetize that site.

    1. 1

Welcome, I like your site! Could you integrate some ads for Duolingo or another language service, or is your site not focused on people learning Hebrew?

      1. 1

        It's focused on Hebrew learners.

I have considered joining an affiliate program with some language learning service, but I didn't find any Hebrew course I could trust enough to recommend it to my visitors. Duolingo is excellent but it's free, so they don't have affiliate programs.

I was going to eventually make my own study materials or courses or apps - but each of this takes a long time and big effort to develop and I am not sure if I will finally be able to do a good-quality product that I can sell.

Basically, that's why I came here for advice.

    Hi!

I am a software engineer that loves to draw. As I look to the future I want to create something that have a positive impact on other people.

Anyway I work in a company but I would like not to, but I don't have the courage to do it. So I am here to get inspiration and learn from you experience. Maybe someday I find a way for me :)

  27. 2

Hey guys! I just read the article on /r/programming today about the guy that quit at Google to work on his own side projects and it hit a little too close to home. I had no idea this site existed but it seems like exactly what I've been looking for.

Quick info about me, I'm Andrue Anderson Web Developer of around 5 years, currently working for Availity https://www.availity.com/

My main interest is game development despite my career choice of web development, and I would really like to get to know some of you from the community to gather ideas and possibly collaborate!

    I'm super excited! :D

    Hello everyone, I am Surya.

I found this community today and registered immediately. Very inspiring for me. Short bio, working for the last 15 years with fortune companies mainly in the banking and financial sectors in Java/Full Stack/Middleware/Open Source/Mobile/Dev Ops etc. Tired of it, looking for ideas to work on and make a sustainable business/living out of it. You can find my professional details in LinkedIn.

    https://www.linkedin.com/in/suryadeep-chatterjee/

Let me know where I can start and fulfill my goals :) Also looking forward to any technical challenges/questions/help I can offer. I also have created lots of side projects and apps, but unfortunately nothing made to the sustainable business yet and I sold my startup a year back. I will try to list them as I get time to let all see and give feedback.

    Hi All

Damien here from a little SaaS app I helped build called Bindle (https://www.bindle.io).

Bindle is software to help small businesses and their employees manage the process of requesting and booking time-off from work.

Most folks use a spreadsheet but that quickly gets out of hand when you need to start tracking who's off and when, and how much paid time-off each person has remaining. Bindle to the rescue!

Anyway, Bindle is a bootstrapped, rapidly growing business that fits right into the Indie Hacker mold, and I love reading about everyone's own journeys trying to build successful businesses in not-so-conventional ways.

Well, that's me and my thing, and hopefully I'm able to contribute some knowledge and encouragement back into the Indie Hacker community in return for all the knowledge and encouragement I already get out!

    Thanks, and good luck!

    Damien

    1. 1

      Welcome, Damien.

Bindle sounds great. If you're making over $500/mo and want to share your story with the rest of the community, feel free to sign up for an interview!

Hey folks! Just heard about Indiehackers last week. I'm here to discover and share new marketing tools with the community. I'm a big proponent of free tools because I feel like people should be able to measure their marketing footprint no matter the size of their budget. Hoping to find some interesting hacks/tools from all your side projects and share hacks using free tools as well!

    Hello IH community!

My name is Razvan and I am a 19 yo student, designer & developer.

My passion for design and software engineering is what got me hooked to the 'startup' world. As for what my experience is up until now, I managed to:

🚀Launch ConnSuite https://connsuite.com, a fresh online approach to the classic business card. In need of a single profile I could share, where I had all my social accounts & links and stuff I wanted people to know about me, seeing that none of the existing ones were exactly what I was looking for, I started building it myself. If you want to find out more, have a look or ask me about it! Some feedback would be really nice.

🏢Started building my own company, Van Software, where I handle anything related to digital marketing, websites and mobile apps or custom graphic design.

💬Launched Sycity, a social network with a location-based algorithm that activated when you were in a cafe/restaurant/club and made it possible for you to chat and socialize with people in the same location.

⭐Became a self-taught graphic designer, web developer, mobile dev and made a habit from learning as much as I can about tech every day. I wish (for all those #MastersOfScale fans) to become some kind of 'infinite learner' over time and tackle as many challenges as I can if I can develop myself through them.

Would love to brainstorm a few ideas with you and read about more awesome side-projects on IH. You can find more about me on connsuite.com/razgraf

Hi, Im Nick from North Texas,

I graduated years ago with a polysci degree planning on law school, and decided against it. I've been a waiter for the past 1.5 years and have been learning programming in my free time. Mostly Java/Android, but lately Node.js and React.

I just released my first project on the Google Play Store called Almost There. Basically you enter in someone's phone number & address, and choose a distance (like 1 mile). When you are within 1 mile of the address, your phone will automatically text that phone number "I'm almost there". No more texting and driving for impatient drivers picking someone up!

Fun Feature: the rider can text "distance" to the rider for an automatic response w/ the driver's distance away.

I've been trying to branch out and meet more people in the tech community and this community seems very cool!

    Hello,

I'm Jeremiah and I'm building wiARframe - the world's 1st dedicated AR Prototyping Tool. I want to allow designers to effortlessly prototype AR App ideas without writing code. You can think of it like an Invision for AR.

It is currently in closed Beta but I plan to launch in the next few months. I'm comfortable with product development but still have much to learn about pricing, marketing and launch strategies.

Looking forward to sharing with you all!

Hey guys, I've been an indie hacker for years and love creating projects and seeing what works. I've built and sold a few businesses and have started & folded dozens more. They're usually cheap learnings on trying to deeply match some tech or a business model with a problem that people have told me about (rather than a problem I think people have).

I've loved listening to the IH podcast and am constantly inspired by the people who make their own path, get a little help and give so much back in terms of advice.

    Thanks x 10!

  47. 2

Hi everyone, I'm Ron. I joined IndieHackers not too long ago but hadn't introduced myself yet. I'm a user experience designer and digital strategist in Chicago. Currently I have a few project ideas I'm working through putting together and am excited to be able to talk more about them as they become refined. Looking forward to interacting with everyone!

  48. 2

    Hi all,

I'm Andre, based in Portugal and a listener of the Indie Hackers podcast, and I've now decided to join the forum.

I'm an independent software developer, consultant, with many years of experience working with large and small software companies and projects. I'm currently working as lead dev at artweb.com and building a React mobile app for instantweather.ca

I've build some things on my own in the past, questionform.com being the most prominent, it's been online for the last 10 years.

After all these years, I now want to reduce client work and start building some side-projects.

I'm hoping that I can learn from other members here, and help them whenever possible.

My only advice, and that is from working with many clients, is to lower your expectations. If you start with a very high expectation (both in terms of traffic or revenue), you will be disappointed very quickly and give up too early. It takes time.

    Cheers!

    Andre

    Hi! Jeppe from Denmark here.

I have previously tried out the digital nomad lifestyle with a very small online marketing freelance gig and ended up also launching a crowdfunding campaign to build school facilities for a school in Nicaragua (https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/empower-nicaraguan-kids-through-sport/).

Since then I was hooked and wanted to create/launch more, which is why I am now trying to enhance my technological skills. So currently now I am doing the CS50 course and hoping to launch interesting stuff soon.

Thanks for all the inspiration on this forum!

I've actually been here for a while but never introduced myself, so I guess now's a good time to do it.

I'm Aaron, I'm a software developer & designer in London. I'm also the creator of https://collapsed.co and currently working on https://waitlyst.co

I've been pretty much awol these last three months due to work but now my schedule is pretty free so should be active on the forum going forward.

Collapsed.co looks like something I could spend a lot of time on. Really like the sound of waitlyst.co, man! Very curious as to how it might work for us at Filmstro. Keep up the good work!

Filmstro has one kickass landing page, you guys have an amazing designer.

I'd be happy to discuss the benefits that Waitlyst can provide to Filmstro, I'll send you a DM on twitter.

Meanwhile, you should sign up to reserve your name on Waitlyst. When the beta goes live, you'll be one my early users and I'd really like to get your feedback on how I could improve it then.

Thanks man, I'm glad you like it. It's been a rollercoaster of a ride to make it this far.

Yes, please do DM me to discuss. I'm going to sign up now, looking forward to trying it out :)

Hello everyone, I'm Danny Founder & CEO of SourceShipSell.com. I teach people how to source products from abroad and sell them on Amazon and their own eCommerce websites. I also practice what I preach and sell full time on Amazon too with inventory in over 35 countries.

I am now looking to expand and have been writing a huge blog of tutorials on my website. They’re all free to help people get set up in eCommerce and start making some cash. Its brand new and I’m currently learning the finer arts of SEO…

For the future would like to move into more advanced eCommerce solutions like payment processing services and advanced product sourcing. I'll always be teaching and helping people though, I love it.

I have been asked numerous times about what’s the ‘secret’? Or “tell me how to get started” etc and I say the same to everyone:-

Firstly do what something that makes you happy, otherwise your not going to keep doing it or you will eventually be unhappy again.

Secondly, you are who you surround yourself with. If you mix with negative toxic people then that is what you will become in one way or another.

Meet and mix with motivated cool people who will lift you up every day.

Also, read lots of websites like this one and if you feel like you are stuck in a dark place read the Leap of Faith blog post on Sourceshipsell.com/blog. Its the story of how I got out. ;)

Thirdly, never stop. Never give up.

“The cowards never started and the weak died along the way” - Phil Knight.

    Hi, I'm Tommy.

I'm a freelance designer living in Copenhagen, Denmark. I mainly do design and user-experience for apps, but I also code and worked as an app coder for many years.

I freelance from my portfolio http://tommyjepsen.com and work with both very early stage startups to conceptualize and build MVPs, but also later stage startups to help create better user-experiences or make new features.

I just today launched my own project Trackly https://tracklyapp.com 🚀 A time tracking and invoicing tool for freelancers! Which I'm super excited about!

Hello Indie Hackers Community. I am new here and I stumbled across the founder of this community website and have been here looking around since. My name is Pamela and I will admit, I have a very small background when it comes to coding. I have always been interested in technology, social media, marketing in general.

My current passion is an online community that I recently started building and developing a few months ago. I am using php because I didn't want to spend too much money initially before getting this community off the ground.

Due to the fact that I don't have a strong familiarity with development it has been a journey trying to find someone that I can work with on a long term basis. So far I have the concept and a small mock-up site of what I want. I know that I have a long way to go when it comes to building an online community in a niche market but I am really passionate about my vision.

I believe that if its done right it can help many people. One of the things that fascinate me about the internet is the ability that it has to connect us all. I want to create that community of people supporting people. My website isnt public yet, and I have a landing page and just collecting emails for the soft launch (beta-testing) phase of the site.

The niche market is women in technology. I could go on and on about how passionate I am about creating this community but I think you get the idea.

What do I hope to get out of Indie Hackers?

I'm hoping that I can make some great relationships, learn from other members and some of the things they have encountered to get that learning curve.

I feel extremely lucky to have found this place and look forward to learning more about each of you.

As I stated before, I am not a coder, however when it comes to great ideas I have them. And as someone who utilizes technology on a daily basis I know the power of what we are doing. Because the internet is still fairly new to some people I feel like the internet has a long way to go and there is room for everyone in this space.

What do I hope to get out of my community once its built?

I want to provide a community of people supporting one another, helping on different projects, and many many other things. Please ask if you have any questions. :-)

Thank you for taking the time to read and welcome to the fellow new people.

    :-)

    Pamela

      Welcome to IH, Pamela!

I'm hoping that I can make some great relationships, learn from other members and some of the things they have encountered to get that learning curve.

Hi, I'm Steven, currently co-founder of https://getyomo.com, a fintech startup created to help young adults do more with their money and avoid the debt trap.

I've launched products for several of my own ideas over the years. Such as Onotate 10 years ago, a tool to help designers get feedback on design concepts (basically Invision before Invision) and Nuu, a website inspired by ProductHunt to help people find new places opening near them.

I'm a product designer by trade. My technical knowledge has largely been limited to HTML & CSS, so I've always felt like I needed a team of developers to help make my ideas a reality.

But this year I've decided to learn to code so I finally have the skills to make my own ideas come to life. My goal for the year is to launch something.

The best advice I can give is you really can learn anything if you put your mind to it. I've always found the thought of learning to code to be daunting, but now that I've started it's really not, it's empowering!

Hey, I'm Bryan, I'm learning to code in my spare time while working a sales job. Most of what I've built so far has been duct tape prototypes which to my delight compile more often than not. So far I've only created things used internally at the company I work for, although officially I'm not a developer. I'm going to keep learning to code until my products have enough polish that I can respect them and then I'm just going to build and deploy until something catches, even if it takes 20 years.

By the way, anyone who is making money off of something they built is my hero.

    1. I'm a self-taught software developer with 4 years professional experience. I'm from the states but based in Tokyo right now. I made a pretty cool VR whiteboarding/collaboraiton app called Hyper Room(hyper-room.io) I'll also be launching a small personal productivity product this month.

    2. I meet a lot of people learning programming for the first time as adults like I did and get asked for advice. I think it's important to work on lots of small problems and one big problem in parallel. So do something like coderbyte or hackerrank every day, and then have a side project that you're passionate about that you work on for longer. I think this is a good way to balance your time between improving basic coding skills while learning how to create something from scratch that you can show to people in your portfolio.

Hey all! I love listening to the IndieHackers podcast and hearing the stories of other founders who have taken the insane journey of bootstrapping a company. I am excited to meet others in the Indie Hackers community who are having similar experiences. Also, feedback on my businesses would be really useful too!

I was working for a startup based in DC for ~4 years until I decided that I needed a break for a whole host of reasons in December 2016. I left that company and decided to take an entire year off to recoup. I was living in Breckenridge, CO at the time, so I got in quite a lot of snowboarding (my main hobby)! After a summer of traveling, I moved back to NJ to be closer to friends and family and started my indie journey in October 2017.

I've got two related projects that I am working on full time.

My SaaS business, Two Factor Buddy (2FB), is a two factor authentication (2FA) manager that helps end-users avoid falling victim to phishing attacks, save time while logging in with 2FA, and educate themselves about which third party services offer 2FA in the first place.

I am also focusing on All Things Auth, which is a community and collection of resources aimed at helping service providers and end-users work together to solve authentication ("who are you?") and authorization ("what are you allowed to do?") challenges online.

I have been working as a software engineer for ~8 years, so it likely isn't surprising that most of my challenges are related to marketing and sales.

I'm always happy to chat, so don't hesitate to reply and/or reach out directly!

    Hello everyone,

I am not a coder, but a mechanical engineer.

I have launched my first project online more than 5 years ago.

It has failed during more than 2 years before starting to be profitable.

I was starting from scratch in July 2012 on this project: http://www.vivalatina.fr and had to change the business model and the marketing to finally make it work.

Now, this website has generated 413 000 unique visits un 2017 and I plan to reach more than 700 000 in 2018.

I have also launched a new project in English last January: http://www.vivalatina-shop.com to expand.

This is quite new as I will discover the English market in my industry.

I plan to publish a report on indie hackers about this new launch and how well I do for jump-starting the traffic with only SEO actions (content and link building).

    1. 2

wow. Do you make all these jewelry on your own?

      1. 2

        Hello,

hell no, I have a team of 3 people to make them.

I have enough work with marketing, quoting projects, client contacts, logistic, human resources and all the troubles surging from that.

    2. 1

Awesome story. 🙏 Got your submission and responded — looking forward to hearing more!

    Hey Channing,

My name is Daniel, I'm an artist/designer/serial self learner currently working as a software developer and my journey has just begun.

Discovering this community was sort of a revelation to me as it was exactly what I was looking for without really knowing that this was what I was looking for.

Currently I feel like I've been stuck in analysis paralysis of knowing what to build or even if I should build something at all. I read one blurb saying that you should build it if it meets a certain criteria and then some saying that you won't know till you try. I also get stuck choosing which technologies to build.

In a nutshell its very overwhelming to me, but at the same time I see how rewarding building something, that would really help people, would be.

The way I have started is by actively writing down all my ideas, looking for someone to work on projects with, and trying to narrow down technologies I would like to work with (Rails, Phoenix, Amber, Node, etc...)

other than that, its inspiring to be on here and see that other individuals are out there doing something.

Soon I'd like to post with something that I'm actually working on :)

    Cheers

last year I was working FT running marketing, design, and front-end... and as a partner at TheSill.com

    Michal here.

I have a full time job at one of the biggest corporations (lucky doing interesting and nice stuff) and working on a website to share things with your friends.

There are websites and services like that, but usually you share with strangers for money. I wouldn't lend my things to strangers, but if a friend need a saw for example, I am happy to share.

Also you might offer a service a help with something specific too.

There's also a possibility to request a thing or a service.

I hope I will be able to share soon. I am missing only english translation.

Hi everyone, I've been hanging around Indiehackers for a little bit now, listening to podcasts and reading interviews. It's been a great source of inspiration, so thank you! And I'm finally introducing myself now that I have something to share...

My background is in engineering and product management at larger startups, but I've been eager to build something from scratch that solves a problem I have. I decided to start with my struggle to organize and manage all of the research I tend to do online. I've tried pocket, instapaper, tab managers, etc... but nothing worked for me. Which brings me to my first project: winno.io.

I'm planning to do a closed Beta in order to test the stability of the app, identify bugs, as well as get some initial feedback, and also figure out how to explain it! The MVP is much like a tab manager, but I have a vision for a lot more! So, if you have problems storing and retrieving things you want to read, look at, or just keep for later that are online, I would love to have you try out winno.io

    Thank you!

    Montana

Product guy. I love building products at the intersection of AI, UI and Operations. I spend my time building systems that leverage AI and augment it with User Interfaces and Operational Processes to deliver high impact products.

I'm currently working with the Product team at Booking.com, building ML based, personalized Customer Experiences.

Previously, I've worked at Flipkart to build user experience products. My team built the world's first PWA for Desktop web applications. I have also worked on sale experiences, the Android App and the mobile website platform.

I co-founded BrainBought, a startup enabling mid-income users to better manage their investments through AI and ANNs.

I'm looking for the next cool idea to work on!

I'm a mobile and web developer who uses side projects to learn new skills for my 9 to 5 job. Since I'm doing that anyways I'd like to take more of these to completion and, if feasible, a proper launch.

Really enjoying the community. Great to see so many people making things. Keep it up.

    Hello Indie Hackers!

I'm Youcef and I'm super happy to join the community. I have been reading the forum without an account for the last few months and I find the people and content here super interesting.

I have founded 4 companies. 3 failed and one of them has been running since 2010. It's called Welovebuzz.com, a media platform that produces creative and entertaining content millennials love to share. Welovebuzz has more than 1,5M social followers and reaches 20M people every month.

I have also started investing in early-stage startups and love helping founders in product and growth.

I don't have any side project right now but I have always pursued huge VC backed startups and I would at some point to have a small side project that I can play with.

    More about me on Cef.im.

    Happy to chat and help!

I am a software engineer for 10 hours in a day and a lost soul for the remaining hours. I have a lot of side-projects that I've either started or sketched out but these eventually faded mainly due to fear and a lack of urgency when hitting road-blocks.

My job has burnt me out so coming across IH where there are so many driven individuals accomplishing victories, big and small has been lovely and enriching. I'm hoping this community is the support I need to kick-start things again :).

My name is Eric, I'm a long time IH lurker from Sweden. Ever since I first heard about this place I've been really amazed by all the people here and your stories. I've been wanting to work on something for a long time but couldn't find a project that worked for me, until I met with a friend of mine who works in sales, and he had a similar issue but his problem was the technical aspects of creating the product he wanted. Today I finally finished a website called RemoteHacker.com. I am taking on clients who startups and entrepreneurs requiring technical guidance and product builds. Clients who have been left in the lurch by past developers helping them to unpick the mess that is left and find a new provider to maintain their code going forward.

Also helping Corporations to automate and streamline their business processes saving them money, reducing error rates and freeing up their employees to do more important work.

I am also very keen to pay it forward and always happy to help with advice and suggestions if I can in the hope I will get back advice when I need it.

    Hi friends!

I've just signed up to indiehacker because have found the link to this community in the article of

Michael Lynch https://mtlynch.io/why-i-quit-google/ Thank you, Michael!

I am working fulltime as iOS developer and have side project - an iOS App that helps in learning Japanese alphabet by handwriting https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/learn-japanese-hiragana/id1322000057?mt=8

I developed this App mostly while I had maternity leave.

When I started learn Japanese I needed to learn alphabet first. Japanese has two syllabary alphabets: Hiragana and Katakana. I wanted to memorize Hiragana characters by writing. At the beginning I did it just by writing characters on paper multiple times. It was a bit wasteful and inconvenient, so I looked for an iOS App for this. I didn't found an App on the AppStore that could train my writing (not tracing the character image, but writing the character from scratch), most of them working like quiz giving to choose one right answer from 4-6 choices. Finally I wrote my own App.

I have released first version few months ago. Right now this app is very low in the AppStore search results, that gives me about 5-10 users per day, it is not too much and I would like to grow significantly.

Now I am working on bug-fixing and adding Katakana, new release is going to be published in a week.

For next steps I probably will focus on some ASO works.

I came here for motivation and inspiration.

Thank you for reading this a bit too long post.

    Alyona

Hey guys, I am Neerav Mehta. I run a Drupal web development company, Red Crackle (http://redcrackle.com), which brings food on the table. Most of the work is done by the developers and I spend about 2 hours a day working on Red Crackle.

I am also developing a couple of software products in architecture and construction space.

    1. Rep3D (http://rep3d.com) recognizes objects in a point cloud, captured using a laser scanner. After building this product, I realized that only a small fraction of the market needs it right now and it's probably ahead of its time.

    2. Therefore I am creating another product, Scan To BIM (https://scantobim.xyz) which does pipe recognition in a point cloud. There are existing competitors for this solution and I am keeping the price low to gain market share. The goal for this product is to have as many customers as possible, while still being cash-flow positive, so that I can learn about the architecture and construction industry, develop new products and hopefully upsell the customers later. I am not sure whether this is the right approach though. If you have any feedback, that will be great!

Hello everyone, I'm so excited to be part of the Indie Hackers community. I'm enjoying the conversation. Here's a little something about me:

For the past 7 years, I was the Managing Director of a 15 person digital agency based in the UK. In 2016 I woke up after 5 seizures, 10 minutes away from having a lumbar puncture into my spinal column to check for meningitis. It turned out to be chronic stress and exhaustion.

That experience led me to sell the agency and start Pilotfish, a social enterprise that helps remote workers, freelancers & nomads understand, cope with and improve mental health.

Back in 2014, myself and group of indie business people created Unfake, an influencer marketing SaaS aimed at the music industry. Unfortunately, we had to close it's doors when I fell ill.

I'm also working with a couple of guys on a coworking/coliving business based in Lisbon and Bali. We're in the process of looking for new locations.

I love the indie business community. I don't see the appeal of taking on outside investment, so being here and being apart of this with you all feels like a great privilege.

I hope I can get some advice, insights, and constructive criticism of my ideas, execution, or otherwise.

Although this is my main focus, I do have other business ideas that I know will flourish; it'll only be a matter of time before someone does it. If you're interested in taking any one of my ideas to start a business, please let me know. I'm willing to give them away.

Hi everyone, it’s me Volkan. — breaker, maker, nerd, coder, streamer, connector, speaker, writer, JavaScript-lover, and performance freak.

I’ve worked in four different startups so far in various roles (VP of Tech, CTO, Founder, individual contributor, and sometimes all of them (because it was a ducking startup!))

Anyways, after all the startup rollercoaster and seeing ups (an exit for 4.2M Euros) and downs (getting bankrupt after raising $1.1M)… life got in between and me and my wife had two lovely kids.

So I thought, it’s kinda-sorta time to jump off of the roller coaster onto a more stable life.

Currently I’m a technical lead at Cisco by day, and crazy-maker by night 😉.

I also do screencasts at bytesized.tv, talk at conferences (both on big venues like O’Reilly Fluent/Velocity Conf and also at smaller meetups, mostly about performance optimization, scalability, and JavaScript), write and technical-edit books, write articles, contribute to open source, break things, and learn as much as I can about as many things as I can.

In short, I see any millisecond wasted as a lost millisecond (hence the productivity app that I’m working on (see below)).

You’d imagine how “active” (air quotes) life at Cisco is, after coming from all this startup craziness. — So to satify my “startup spirit”, so to speak, I also do projects on the side, and also from time to time mentor (and even co-found) startups.

You can find more about me at https://volkan.io/

The two active projects I have at the moment are:

    • https://bytesized.tv/ A bi-weekly-to-montly screencast where I talk about JavaScript, front-end, automation, and related technilogies.

    • And https://jedifocus.com/ The productivity app that I created to scratch my own itch, which I’m polishing it so that it can be used by a larger audience.

Just wanted to say hi 👋.

It is, literally, my day-zero at this community, and I cannot believe how aweome (so awesome that one “s” falls off) it is, and I regret that I haven’t found it earlier.

    Keep it on 🤘.

  110. 1

Hey all, glad to be here gathering some intel on how folks get through their side projects in a sane manner. A little about myself, I am a Developer who has spent quite a bit of my last 5 years working remotely for an agency in Canada. Recently, I have moved on to a startup in NYC that I thoroughly enjoy.

My programming background is quite long. Started with Python, went to Perl, then PHP, Java, now Ruby/Crystal/JS/Reason/Rust. I have honestly always had the capability, mentality and overall ability to create something on the side, just never have.

My plan is to try and get bathed in all the great vibes that go on around here and finally push past this weird wall and build something small and publishable.

Thank you all for what you have built here so far and excited to add to it going forward.

    Hello everyone!

My name is Pavel and I am looking for some new working experience as well as knowledge of programming languages.

Right now I am working as a GIS specialist in Moscow. Started to work with ArcGIS and learn python and module arcpy. Today I specialize on building scripts to work with vector geodata (like shapefiles and feature classes), transforming them, getting another data from initial ones and fixing mistakes in geometry. All this is eventually done for bringing data to geoservice of my company. Also took part in making of symbology (cartoCSS) for geoservice https://map.digimap.ru/

Hope my experience would be useful for some projects.

    Hi all 👋

Looks like a great community, really inspiring to read about all the sideprojects here!

As for myself: I'm a developer turned product manager and am slowly discovering the indie hacker community ❤️

    What I've built so far:

👨‍🍳 Recipeboard: a tool to index, categorize and discover new recipes. It's the online cookbook you've always wanted that doesn't look like software from the early 2000's 🙄https://recipeboard.co

📖Plato: a modern take on the company knowledge base & wiki. It's focussed on asking questions and getting answers, rather than maintaining documents (which, if you've worked at a company that is growing quickly, you probably noticed is a real pain). I created a landing page here: https://plato.launcacho.com.

Hello friends. I'm Alex, and from noon Sunday to non Thursday i'm long haul truck driver. Of course what else i can do in small village at north of Canada. lol

Last few years at weekends i develop my project http://www.fatracoon.com

It start like heat control system for my old house. But after few upgrades it going bigger. I can develop PCB and firmware on C with asm.

But after one moment, i found, systems like a IFTTT not good enough for cover all what i want. And i start my i own research about AI and how a brain works. On this point i developed my model and make couple publications.

    here is first part

    https://becominghuman.ai/theoretical-neuroscience-7975868b4566

    and here is second

    https://becominghuman.ai/theoretical-neuroscience-dd4d95631992

On this part i use JAVA and for "memory" JanusGraph database.

Now i have done first part "sensors analytics" and test it with MNIST dataset. And it demonstrate about 94% recognize after just 10% from dataset. In my understanding, it better than NN on so small sets.

But for grow up i have not enough hardware. For let my model work with stream audio in some of reasonable time frame need more nodes for database.

So, now i try done new type terminal, one what you can see on my page. It will use SITARA AM3358 plus 7" touch screen, WiFi, BL, IR transceiver for send command to tv and etc, and receive commands from(for example) tv remote( you can setup some button on your TV remote what do you not use for room lights or so) , Sub 1Ghz transceiver it can be use for communications with some other units. Microphone and Audio.

On other hand i have system what can make analyse datasets what too small for NN. And looking for some customers, who wanna try it .

I hope one of this 2 ways will help me make some extra money for buy more hardware to done my AI model. :)

If someone have some ideas how to use all of this, i open for any suggestions. :)

PS idea, take all of this and put in deep dark hole sometime i have by my self. lol

Hello comrades, i am only doing first steps in programming. Two years ego i was have idea which turn me to coding. I am 35, it's really difficult to learn languages so late, but i'am doing it. I think i know javascript so bad as english, shame on me because you read it. Perhaps i will show my first project soon. I known about this site from post on https://habrahabr.ru/post/350374/, there one guy told story about how he was change work in google to be indie hacker. I think now we live in interesting time, when world changes every day, everyone may add self part to this changes. I think there i find inspiration and like-minded peoples.

Hey all! My name is Bregt and I thoroughly enjoy every aspect of product design, development & management, both on- and offline. I have been working for several internet businesses and recently started a side project, Katt. (https://katt.co).

This looked like a great place to meet and connect with fellow founders :)

I writing ordinary web apps for money as needed but my product I hope to go live with eventually is based on a Tree Graph database with engines for natural language interface and web UI. It's decentralized mesh (but just running on my servers). Most parts are built but not yet all integrated... It makes it very quick and easy to develop and continually evolve applications (state-based process flow control; tree graph data). When the remaining details are finished and it's integrated, I hope to build on it a stack of software in this order:

    (1) a reputational identity service (multiple authentication methods, tracks users' reputations as reported through interactions with others);

    (2) a powerful web directory (heuristic search, group by defined query (restful, web, embeddable), report, and add info on yourself/others;

    (3) a passive work management system (for task-based workflows, focused on minimizing burdens on workers and keeping all resources close at hand, quality controls, and continuous assessment on skills).

Hey guys, I have never seen a community this engaging. Love to be here. I'm Krishnan from India.

  121. 1

Hi! I'm Matthew and I'm new to Indie Hackers. I found out about it after reading the post on Hacker News about the gentleman who left his job at Google.

I am a web developer and have had several projects rattling around my head for years now. I actually have a (non-technical) failed business under my belt. I won't go into the story here, but the lesson I learned? Choose your business partner carefully. :)

I've been enjoying the podcast and look forward to being part of the community!

  122. 1

So to summarize about me... I'm a long time tech guy who has done work with different non-notable startups and niche software companies, usually on a systems engineering or product side. Most of my dev work has been scripting and some php/perl.

However, I've been putting together a networking monitor/security device and coding all of that backend utilizing a ton of open source and scripting/coding that will take it to a POC / MVP status.

Overall, I've found this site full of helpful people as I lurk the threads and finally created an account. Hopefully I can contribute to help someone else get closer to where they want as well.

  123. 1

Hello friends, my name is Will. I've recently become an Indie Hacker and I'm excited to join the community! I'm a software developer by day and a fledgling entrepreneur by night. By fledgling, I mean I haven't built or created any product yet. But I want to! Lots of insight from this community, cool :)

Hello everyone! My name is Miracle and I'm a high school senior and founder of a startup called OpportuniMe, which has the mission to enable youth to efficiently find, manage, and create high quality opportunities (such as internships, enrichment programs, pre-college, unique opps, and more) for passion, career, and self discovery. I also help run the Diamond Challenge, the largest global entrepreneurship pitch competition for high school students. It's a fantastic opportunity!

  125. 1

Hi everyone! Winfield here. I randomly stumbled upon this site simply browsing around. It seems like a nice little community.

I recently started to learn programming in the past year or so. I studied biochemistry in university, and I really enjoyed technology so I decided to take a bioinformatics program in college so that I can learn programming, and be able to combine the two fields. I have a lot to learn, and it's going slowly and trying to figure out how to expand my portfolio. It's really enjoyable to read what others have done on this site.

  126. 1

Hi all, very recently found this community -- interested in learning more as I find my way around. 😊

A quick about me: I am a full-stack developer with over 20 years experience. My passion lies with dreaming up new ideas and bringing them to life through code. I also take great care in the experience, architecture, and code of the products that I build. You can find more about me here: http://amod.io

Previously, for many years, I have had my own side-business mainly around a single product, but I it shutdown at the end of last year. I am currently entertaining the idea of trying again with a completely different product -- trying to monetize (in some way) a popular open-source product I created called GitLens. You can find more about that here: http://gitlens.amod.io

Thank you all for your time!

    Hello,

Most of my career has been working as an engineer/scientist for corporations ranging in size from 20K to 20. I'm kind of done implementing other peoples' vision. Current focus is Ikigai Garden Retreat where the relevance here is a desire to incorporate tech that my parents could have used. My brother and I bought several different surround-sound system systems for them, none of which could they ever operate. Another example is that I'm hacking a cheap phone to turn it into a strictly audio book player for my kids. We keep our kids in a low tech world (e.g., Waldorf), but want them to have access to audio books. So far I have failed to find a device that will do audio book, and nothing else ... no store, no games, no apps, no internet, so I'm going to make one.

  128. 1

I’m a project manager, not a hacker. Is that okay? 😀

  129. 1

Hey there! I've just discovered this place through dev twitter (HT @MalcolmOcean !) and it looks like part of what I'm missing in terms of nudges/support to do more of the cool stuff I should be doing.

I've been full-stack web developing for 7 years now, made my way through various roles and challenges including some early startup environments. I'm now looking towards doing more of my own side projects, working on open source and perhaps getting involved with early startups as a coder and leader. I love the whole node react open source ecosystem and hope I can contribute here as there's so many exciting possibilities. Also looking for excuses to use haskell or other cool functional stuffs.

Hoping I can learn to engage in the community more, push through my social reticence and build cool things. Recently I've made an attempt at a social network startup (pendulr.com) and am about to start another (tribetag.com), while I also scramble to find some more short-term work to keep the bank happy.

I'm passionate about solving the world's biggest problems, which I think are almost all surmountable with current hardware, conceivable software (and the right human inertia). Looking forward to getting to know this cool community!

    Hey friends,

I have a fairly different background reading through some of the other posts here. I'm a resident physician who does web development and unity projects as a hobby. So far, I've done hackathons and that's about it. But I'm really passionate about entrepreneurship and I hope to start a side project soon then eventually grow it into a business.

I've lurked a lot and only created this account recently, but I found indiehackers to be a really supportive community! I appreciate any advice you throw at this newbie indiehacker! :)

Oh and if anyone needs feedback from a medical perspective on their project, give me a shout.

Hi - I'm Mike. I've been a financial developer for the past 8 years working with startups and fortune 500 bank/brokerages developing tools to automate and connect various platforms. I'm professionally a fullstack .NET developer working with a few js frameworks on the front end. I released native Android and iOS apps for an automotive hardware platform I built as a sole developer but that failed!

My current side work is a property management platform: https://propertyments.com. This is a .NET/js/SQL Server/Azure stack that I'm in the pre-launch stage. I'm looking to read and understand what everyone else is struggling with to help better my approach and hopefully give back a little when I can.

Hello! My name is Jacob. I have thirteen years of experience as a software engineer, an MS CS from Georgia Tech, and I'm tired of working for other people.

Currently I have two projects I am working on.

The first is Banqi AI, a computer game where you can write an AI agent to enter matchmaking with. Matchmaking will support human-human, human-ai, and ai-ai matches. As with matchmaking in any game, you don't know who'll you be matched up against once you enter the queue. I tried to Kickstart the project, which was my first Kickstarter campaign. I canceled it after four days, but I learned what I need in order to create a successful campaign. First, it's hard to organically grow a campaign using only Kickstarter. You need followers first. Build that list before you launch. Two, Facebook and Google Ads are cheap and can reach a lot of people. Unfortunately they do not necessarily convert to backers. Third, create a video. You can view the campaign here at https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/jacoblangston/banqi-ai

The second project came out of frustration of seeking a new position. I came up with a product idea I'm tentatively calling Next Level. The purpose of the tool is to simplify a job searchers profile into a visible card that highlights technical and soft skills, interests, and background information in a consistent fashion that is concise. The two other features I am implementing for the POC are a team builder, where you can get build a team by entering in how many people you're looking for, what criteria you favor, and then it'll build a prospective team for you. You can then interview them, and substitute interviewees as they move through the process. The last feature is implicit networks. I think building a professional network should be implicit. If a user endorses you for a soft or technical skill, each person is added to the others network - no need to send a connection request, and no email will be sent asking for a connection request.

I joined IndieHackers to learn from others who have been successful in their goals.

    Hi Friends,

I stumbled upon this website while reading a blog and really excited to learn that I'm not alone. I've been working on my pet project https://www.magicauthor.com since a couple of years. Now I'm revamping the platform with advanced programming technologies.

The platform is about creating, publishing and selling eBooks in many of the Indian languages. Readers can buy and read eBooks from our mobile app. The platform is still in beta, I'm trying my best to complete it. I wanted inspiration and motivation from folks like you.

    1. 1

were you able to meet your funding goal on kickstarter, and do you recommend kickstarter?

      1. 1

        Hi Stephen,

I used the word 'kickstarted' as a verb. Now edited the post.

I never knew there is some platform called kickstarter.

Let me take a look at it. Thanks for letting me know.

I am a programmer who enjoys creating little side projects. I specialize in working on iOS apps but I come from a web development background so I feel comfortable starting projects on all platforms. I enjoy open data, useable interfaces and pragmatism.

My last side project is available here: https://www.pwnyc.xyz

As someone who likes to walk around and find places to work in NYC, I use this app to help me find wifi while out in public. It sources it's data directly from NYC's open data servers. My favorite part of building it was discovering the wealth of data that NYC makes publicly available to it's residents.

If anyone is looking for an iOS developer/general programmer to collaborate with I'm all ears!

Hi everybody, my name is Alexandre. I discovered this website today (tomorrow depending on your timezone) and I instantly liked the concept.

I've been interested in startups and entrepreneurship for a long time, however the more I read about it, the more I've grown sick of the Silicon Valley startup culture. Indie hacker is seems more "human", which I like.

I'm a marketer by day, but not very good at it. Mostly because my job ask me to "trick" users into conversion, which I dislike. I am a privacy advocate indeed and believe there must be better way to market.

In my spare time I learn about computer, servers, network and programming language. I set up a server from zero to website, which probably doesn't sound like much to most of you but is already a big enough task for me. Right now I'm learning Go and Python and hope to be able to develop a first web app (whatever it is) this year (maybe privacy related?)!

    Thanks for reading!

I started to work on a side-project since december of 2017 called https://www.planify.fr

I joined this community to get some advices and see other examples of launching a side project as a profitable company (at least for a living).

I recommand reading Rework (Jason Fried, David Heinemeier Hansson).

    My current keyword is pragmatism.

Hi, I am Kenneth based on Metro Manila, Philippines.

I quit my corporate job from 2015 to start my own startup called (Wanderast)[https://wanderast.com].

We started our startup to build an ecommerce platform. The labor in our country is quite cheaper compared to US, EU or Singapore so I was able to get my first three co-founders after the first 4 months. We really struggled because we never knew tech from scratch can be so daunting especially since my co-founder don't know too much as well as I am.

We failed on this project and started to pivot on a CMS platform for travel which is Wanderast and we recently release our beta for Android.

Our startup grew to 8 employees including me. Right now we are struggling because our burndown budget for 2018 could not last very long. If we do not see any potential on our travel app, then I may be the only one left standing. And that is why I am looking for venues to get tips and how to survive this onslaught.

I have learned lots of things building our product. First, I am really proud of myself that I can build things fast on my own. Second, I experienced handling the team. And most of all, I learned the reality of IT business. I am still learning many things but right now my priority is to find potential in something that we really love doing.

Loved the community, so decided to join.

I'm a tech enthusiast with a full time job(10 yrs under my belt) and a part time gig.

I've created a platform that allows you to author survey and collect feedback(anonymously or email invite.) It automatically generates report for you as well! You can check it out here - http://feedsinsight.com/

This week, I'm planning to re-design the website and launch it and introduce an affiliate program as well.

If you need any sort of technical or survey related assistance, I would love to assist!

    Hi everyone.

My name is Amy Pellegrini, and I'm a Pianist and Software developer, although I must admit that the label "indie hacker" is closer to my temperament than anything else.

Right now I'm working on a project that seeks to join pianistic discipline with gaming and statistics to provide a framework for piano learning and daily piano practice. Because I'm a pianist, I focused my approach to the piano, but that doesn't mean that it can't be extended to other instruments.

The idea is that if you keep track of what you play every day you can develop long-term strategies by analyzing your performance over time in different topics.

A web tool/app designed for this purpose would allow the user to keep track of what he or she played, for how long, in what key, and so on.

This tool, combined with video lessons and a scoring system to make it fun, seeks to make the process of learning more enjoyable and aid in the development of discipline over time, pretty much like a Khan Academy for pianists.

I don't want to extend to much here, I believe that an MVP or prototype speaks more than a thousand words, and that's where I'm currently at, implementing my MVP and the infrastructure blocks I will need for the future.

That's all for now folks, thanks for taking the time to read and for any comment/suggestion or desire of good fortune, this website has turned out to be a great find.

    Cheers!

    Hey all,

I'm Allison living in Chicago. I quit my day job at the end of January to pursue my side project full time. It's an online game based off of real world data. The game will be available this June and I'm currently living off of funds I saved up over the past year. I don't expect the game to start making money right away, and my savings will only last me until July/August. I expect to try to pick up contract work to continue to live and would love to hear advice you have for doing that.

Hello to the community of singles ( oxymoron, no? )

I am sole author of Sciter (https://sciter.com) and HTMLayout (retired) Engines - HTML/CSS/script UI for desktop applications.

Sciter/HTMLayout code works on 450 mln PCs and Macs that far (in various products of different vendors). Since 2007 it is in production.

    A bit about myself:

Sciter started as a side project when I was working as a Web FrontEnd Architect/TechLead at one of .com's. 14 years ago state of affairs in Web Front End was quite grim and I decided to fix that and create HTML UI engine as it should be, that's why Sciter. A lot of experiments on the way as you can imagine, here are details https://sciter.com/10-years-road-to-sciter/ just in case.

    Advices:

    • Don't hesitate to compete with giants. As larger dev team as less productive it is - most productive is Indie Developer and that is you.

    • Humans are lazy. Me and you are included. The only option for us is to invent set of strong motivations for ourselves. It could be anything, from a will to say something "urbi et orbi", to anything less pathetic than that.

    • It appears as 9 months is an optimal "creation period" for software design too. More - author's exhaustion, less than 7 - half backed. Actually that is true as for teams as for sole developers.

    👋hello everyone!

I just joined indie hackers after reading Michael Lynch' blog post on leaving Google where he mentioned it being a great site.

I'll probably be lurking here most of the time, but plan to periodically share small side projects I'm working on in my spare time, and in general contribute whenever I think I might have something of value to say.

This seems like a wonderful community. I look forward to getting to know you better.

My day job is as a co-founder and CTO at a startup based out of Berlin in Germany.

  153. 1

Hi All, pretty new to the site so I thought I would introduce myself. I'm a 24-year-old developer based in Manchester. Currently working on the cloud infrastructure for a music hardware company. In my spare time, I do a lot of self learning but I really want to start building products this year hence me being on the site.

My Portfolio link which has links to web applications I've built/collaborated on. https://esslamcodes.now.sh/

This year I'm going to pick a few good ideas for products and just start building them in my spare time. I would love some advice or suggestions how others in a simiilar ssituations manage time and projects.

Hello everyone! My name's Aaron. I'm a UX/UI designer who's also built a few projects. I'm just seriously getting started on my 'forever' project I've been talking about building for years.

Looking forward to getting to know you all and sharing my work as I go.

  156. 1

Hey peeps, my name's Boaty. I'll be graduating from highschool and taking a gap year to focus on freelancing. Since Sophmore year I've delved in app development, only having done an android development contract for a local company in my area that focuses on streamling the clinical dianosis experience for a customer and clinic. Junior and early Senior year I worked on some smaller projects really focusing on an area I really like, computer vision.

This Senior year, me and some friends are in the Lenovo Scholars competition, and we've been building an app that deals with carrier-based solutions (or in a non-fancy way, an uber for small packages). We plan on making this app focus on the business industry rather than residential so we can actually have a chance in this heavily saturated uber-esque market.

I literally found this website today, and I think I'm in love. I was browsing r/programming and saw Michael Lynch's 'Why I quit Google to Work for Myself'. which brought me to this site. Can't wait to see how much I can learn from this place.

    1. 1

Nice to see another computer vision engineer here! Is there any way you integrate your cv experience in your package business or is it mostly dev work?

I'm a freelance developer currently working on an app that helps organizations schedule and manage volunteers. It'll have a web admin site as well as mobile apps for users.

I got my first customer before building a thing. I'm frantically building right now! At the risk of sharing prematurely, https://troopiter.com is the site. Content for the public parts of the site is still on the todo list!

I've had the patrick.net website for many years. It was very popular during the housing bubble and crash, but I never found a profitable business model in telling people not to overpay for a house. Lately it's a general forum, but I'm looking into using it as the basis of a forum-as-a-service product.

Hi everybody, My name is Feng Liu. I'm very new to Indie Hackers. I just found out it's very cool, and instantly bookmarked and created an account.

I quit my job last years July to start my own project, www.acho.io, which is a social media for musicians. I work on this on my own and enjoy all the works. But the most tough part is not the development, the tough part is how to gain initial traction, and then I can test my MVP with this small traction. This why I love the website like hacker news, product hunt, indie hackers, and all the platforms that can share your thought.

So anyone can help me to build some ideas for getting some traction? Be more specific, like 100 visits a day?

Hi, I am a software engineer, who has worked in Boston area startups for many years, (databases, storage, one consumer-oriented company). I'm retired now, teaching, learning, occasionally consulting, and still playing with software projects that interest me.

I have expertise in database systems (application level and internals), and data structures and algorithms. I have some unique background and experience in spatial indexing, (that was the topic of my PhD dissertation many years ago, and I have implemented those ideas in a vareity of products over the years).

If you have a project that could benefit from my involvement, I'd love to hear from you.

    Building/Marketing Cybersecurity Solutions.

First of all our flagship is a fully automated and a friendly human interface through chat (slack, lync, xmpp,etcc...) that would PARTIALLY automate the process of a deep dive penetration testing engagement where you define the scope and it's pretty much let lose to

    Monitor.

    Engage.

    Report Back.

So much more extensible features and hacking tools leave the ceiling for modular potential limitless...

this product will be used to fund customer acquisition on direct engagements with a human consultant and audit team lead.

I am here to look for your business advise partners programmers and etc etc as i have plenty of room in my cap table to accommodate for early partners in the C but would be at a vestment of anywhere from a negotiated swing of 3-5 years.

Hello, my name is Mark. I created Vora (getVora.com), an Android and iOS app that helps people track their fasting. I built the project just after graduating college and continue to work on it as a side project. I am still working a full-time software engineering job, but someday hope to have a software product or service of my own. Vora makes some money, but not enough for this dream.

  168. 1

TLDR: I like to build things and specialize in doing just that.

In the beginning, I started by reverse engineering my dad's drill and my mother's vacuum cleaner. They quickly learned that buying me broken appliances kept me away from the working ones :)

In my elementary years, I collected broken or used computers and rebuilt them for my amusement. Did you know that most people back in those days didn't erase their hard drives? I came across some fascinating (and disturbing) data in those formative days. In school, I was always helping teachers with computer problems and even had the opportunity to help one teacher with a grant to get seven computers for the classroom. That was a gratifying project for me.

Throughout high school, my Internet friend and I had a flash web agency and aspired to contend with companies like 2Advanced. We were somewhat successful, but our studies ended up taking a lot of our time. Sadly, we lost all of that work, and the web archives didn't get all the flash assets (I can't stress the importance enough of having redundant backups!)

I've studied at a couple of different universities in various focuses but have yet to major in any one area. I consider myself to be a student in many subjects and will happily spend the rest of my life in the pursuit of knowledge, science, and education.

I've started, built, and sold several businesses. I've worked at many startups and have gone through a couple of acquisitions.

In all of that time I've had the pleasure to work with many amazing people who are much smarter than me. My mentors have taught me many formidable lessons that I will never forget and I'm always looking for new mentors.

Currently, I'm a senior software engineer, front-end architect, UX designer, and team lead for a "cloudy" video service.

    Any coffee lovers here?

  169. 1

Hello everyone, I am so glad I found this website and get to know all of you hackers.

I've worked as front-end, back-end, mobile software developers and switched between companies from time to time. I also love to build side-projects. Over the past couple years I built couple side projects but its always hard to find people that will commit time to work with you.

Currently I am working on a chatbot platform that enables individuals and business to create bots that suit their need. Its really small project with only myself working on this. I would love to hear more about your ideas and its great to be home :)

I've built numerous side projects since 2005 - the year I quit my last day job. Here are some of the most cash positive ones:

    1. https://geocode.xyz

Geocode places to latitude, longitude, elevation.

      Worldwide geocoding and geoparsing API.

    2. https://geocoder.ca

Geocoding and Geoparsing for North America.

    3. https://foodpages.ca

      A restaurant guide.

This month? Just finished off a rental asset tracking system and a guest management system for a group of B&B's I am trying to make time to complete a LPG usage app, its mostly complete just need to productize it. Proof of concept is done. In my head there is a water purification system that uses converts sea water to fresh water and generates electricity. Steady state hydrocyclone adding CaO to raise temp to drive low pressure turbine. Most of the month I was completely exhausted , kids at school and suspicious clients

    Hey everyone,

My name's Phil. I've just moved to Boston, with my wife, from Europe. I worked as a software developer at a data science firm, and before that I did robotics/machine learning research. I'm taking this time of transition to figure out what I want to do: do I want to start something of my own (ideas-a-plenty) or join a company and continue growing in that way.

My language of choice was always Python, but I've been known to write C++ and javascript when I have to. I'm cleaning up a ton of my side-projects from years past to see what is worth showing off and more importantly, what is worth building on.

My side-project that currently draws most of my enthusiasm involves an interface (possibly a RPi with microphone inside a teddy bear) that kids could read to/around and it would be able to chart their reading progress and hopefully be able to identify signs of disabilities or falling behind early enough for parents to be able to intervene.

I am a physicist turned web developer/startup hacker. My most recent projects are a couple years old:

A site to organize all the free music online. Muusical provides an interface to supply missing meta data for songs on youtube/soundcloud/vimeo and then gives you access to all of them through a web-based player.

    http://www.muusical.com

    and

A site to find all the swift tutorials in one place. I launched this a day or two after swift launched and enjoyed a year or so on the front page of google's search results. I was never particularly passionate about Swift, so I didn't push development very much further than the initial product.

    http://www.sososwift.com

My main tools are rails/react and I have some scientific computing chops from my physics days. I'm very interested in music and also have a particular idea around local/social (i know, this was SO hot in 2014).

I have a designer friend who is ready to build something and would love to team up with another developer (either server-side for an API or iOS).

P.S. I can't remember the name of the site but I met a really cool designer that helped me with muusical.com a while back. I'm hoping this is a much improved version of that idea!

    Hi Everyone!

My background is in Product Management. I have been a Product Manager for 10 years but recently decided to jump into the world of entrepreneurship in the last 5 years. It's one thing to build products for a company, but another to build something that you are passionate about and that you can set the course for.

My passion is in helping people and using technology allows me to reach a broader mass of people. My current side project (considerit.co) focuses on bringing people closer together and helping them build meaningful and deep relationships with each other. I look forward to seeing everyone's progress and helping out where I can. Let me know if you ever need anything!

    Hi friends,

Davenson here! It is my very first day on IndieHackers and I really like it. I work as a technical services engineer at the moment and working on a few hobby projects. One is a web app that allows anyone to deploy apps and vm servers on different cloud hosting platforms. It works with Digital Ocean and AWS Lightsail right now. I'll keep you posted :).

Hello hackers. My name is Isaac and I just released the beta of Edward the App (https://edwardtheapp.com), a web app for writing your first novel. I've been writing both code and fiction since I was a kid and this was my way to engage both those passions to make something that doesn't really exist in the market. I started my LLC a few weeks ago and things are going well, but I'm more of a maker than a mover, so I'm trying to learn marketing, finance, management and other stuff on the fly. Hoping to get to the point where Edward is self-sustaining by the end of the year.

Does anyone have suggestions for inexpensive, non-evil ways to find users who love your product? I'm all ears.

I am an experienced web and front end troubleshooter. My work includes finding bottlenecks in delivering a webpage to the end user. I use industry standard tools such as wireshark, pagespeed, and knowledge of webhosting platforms on both Windows and Unix web servers to configure for optimal delivery and rapid presentation of the requested page and content. I am looking to expand my experience with server side code such as node.js and at the same time am very interested in how FaaS and serverless infrastructure are bringing dramatically lower runtime costs to projects. I'm interested in collaboration and consulting in areas that I mentioned. Thank you and I'm excited to be here!

Hi folks, Jean-Louis here. Long time lurker on hackernews and only recently stumbled on Indie Hackers. I have done many things over the years, but what is keeping me up late in the evening for over a year now is working on fizz (http://f1zz.org), which is an experimental language and runtime environment for the exploration of cognitive architectures and combined Machine Learning (ML) and Machine Reasoning (MR) solutions.

I know that project sounds pretty far fetched (and lofty) and while my end-goal is to play with AGI concepts, I'd love to have more concrete use cases for it. I'm open to any suggestions and/or collaborations :)

Hey all! Excited to be a part of this awesome community. I've already learned so much through the IH interviews and podcast.

I'm primarily a freelance writer and web developer. I'm obsessed with words and finding the right combination of them to change someone's mind or persuade them to take action. I was an English major in undergrad, studied at law school, and now like to write and hack as much as I can :) In my free time I'm working on a project that I'm hoping to validate: WordSourcery - copywriting on demand for startups.

You can check out the landing page here - http://welcome.wordsourcery.com . I'd appreciate any feedback you might have. In any case, I'm excited to be here and look forward to contributing and learning more from this community.

I work as a freelance web developer (mostly on Laravel projects and sometimes Python Django). On my free time I read, do some writing and like most of us here, I try to build software products. I am currently working a few projects, but the one I am quite pleased with is what I called Eventli ( https://eventli.simplestweb.in ).

    Thank you.

    Hi everyone,

Long time lurker/listener, first time poster. A little about me, I am a full stack developer with start-up experience who recently moved to the ATL area. Reading about your products and the indiehackers philosophy for building products has been deeply inspiring to me. It's exciting to be part such a passionate and supportive community. I'm currently working a 9 to 5 as a front-end developer (with a dash of DevOps & Scala) while hacking on a couple of small side projects. Currently these projects are still in the idea stage, I'm looking for a collaborator on the business side of things who can help me with marketing and branding. Hopefully, the IH community can give me some insights into how to build and scale a successful side project, and help me either find a business partner or develop the business and growth hacking skills I need to build my products.

I've been listening to the podcast for the past 2 months and after about 20 or so episodes I have finally decided to join up! I've been working on side projects for about 8 years and running my own business seemed so daunting. Indie Hackers has completely changed my perspective and I am more motivated than ever. I have a few ideas I'm working on but I'm primarily focused on being a bigger part of the community and building my audience.

  203. 1

Hi everyone! I'm Brian! I started learning how to code about a year ago in order to keep track of workout data for athletes I was coaching part-time at a local facility. I was spending more time on excel doing data entry/analytics than I was coaching. So I built an IOS App for data entry and real-time feedback on workout metrics. I also added a rough Django web app that serves as a personal dashboard for me to look at all my athletes data in one place.

Learning how to code/ building the app has been one of the most fun things I've ever done. I built the app because we were training a broad range of metrics, i.e. weight, sets, reps, jump heights, sprint times, throwing velocities, etc and there was nothing on the market that met all these use cases. Nothing gave the type of feedback I was interested in either, i.e. personal record tracking, volume/intensity metrics across different time-frames, progress charts, etc. So I started with a simple app that was capable of tracking the metrics we used, and over time built in the analytics as I got better at programming.

I've been lurking on forums like IndieHackers because I'd like to turn the app into a product that other people can use. I've also discovered that I enjoy programming a lot and I love looking at other people's work and seeing how high the bar is in this community. I don't have much to offer in terms of advice to others but I've got plenty of questions to ask! If you want a peek at how shoddy my programming skills are, I've put up some screenshots of my app on the main page and under the features tab at athleteresources360.com.

    Hello Guys

It is really an honor to be a part of such great community. I've spent as Account Executive 13 years in Deutsche Telekom, dealing with top clients all over the world. I was trained how to attract, nurture and close high-value deals.

But this was my past. Currently I am a founder of two startups involved in Industry 4.0

My pasion is sales and marketing. Lastly I have made atricle on Medium about "How to sell you product or service".

    Here is the link

    https://medium.com/@TomaszBogus/how-to-sell-your-product-or-service-5110f3caa5aa

    Enjoy.

I would love to discuss with you how to colse more deals and generate enormous revenue.

    Cheers

    Hi IH community,

Already some times that I'm often read IH discussions so it's time to present myself too!

I'm Matt, UX Researcher and Design based in Munich, Germany. I came from an academic career path in Social Sciences and turned as UX research five years ago.

While I was doing (only) research/mockup/prototype, encountering Bubble.is was a game changer for me as it allows me to create real/working webapp/apps. Since two years, a large number of my nights and week-ends turned around crafting/hacking/ideating stuffs!

My last project, still under construction is https://ideable.co

It's a product development platform inspired from Design Thinking/Lean process. It adressed the problem that certainly lots of us know : keeping track of why and from whom you are building your product. In other words, frame the problem, validate it and stick to it!

So with Ideable, you would :

Have everything is the same place, from User observations/inspirations, Personas to ideas around features and MVP selection.

Define the relationships between elements. For example, this MVP get this feature which is based on this insights wich is based on those observations.

Test your ideas/problems/hypothesis with (real) people. I'm currently implementing a testing sytem that allows users to create mini surveys (connected to Amazon Turk) to validate/unvalidate differents elements.

    More to come soon!

Happy to join the community and learn about everyone's project here!

    Matt

    Hi friends,

I have been reading Indie Hackers interviews and forum discussions for more than a month and would love to be a part of the community. It inspires a lot.

I think my journey to become an Indie hacker is just starting out and I am pretty excited.

I have 2 SaaS products in the mix, 1 of them is feature complete for version 1.0 just going through some unit testing at this point.

SaaS product #2 is a product I actually purchased about 7 months back. This is a web based product that was basically on auto-pilot and was being maintained by a non-tech founder. I randomly emailed them and about 6 weeks later I was given root access :)

It has a very legacy codebase (think Rails 2.x) so I am completely re-writing the app (frontend and backend).

Really enjoy this site, great work!

    Hello,

At my day job I write really awesome stuff over at https://nelly.com. In the night I have mostly worked on OSS, my most famous project is probably https://anapioficeandfire.com which is a REST API for Game Of Thrones.

At the moment I'm working on a few side projects that will hopefully be ramen profitable. Stay tuned :)

  210. 1

Hi, everyone. I'm a data scientist by day, and I guess "indie" web app developer by night.

My most "famous" site (although I doubt anyone here has heard of it) is nbawowy.com, which is a basketball (NBA) stats site that I've operated since 2013.

I'm currently working on my first "full stack" web app built with Django and VueJS. Interested to be a part of this community.

    Hi everyone!

I'm Vincent, the founder and developer of Nixstats, a server and web monitoring SaaS. Nixstats (https://nixstats.com) was a side project for a long time but now a full time project for me. In January we went into production so a very exciting time for this project now! We're using Stripe for payments.

I decided to finally post on IH after lurking and reading some of the founder stories which are always very interesting. I hope to learn a lot and help others out at the same time :)

  212. 1

    Hi there, I-Hackers!

Just learned about this community from SaaS Growth Hacks group on FB.

I have no idea why I haven't heard about you before!

I've been running a small digital agency in Warsaw, Poland since 1998. Also developing some bootstrapped SaaS brands, like https://www.supermonitoring.com/ (website uptime & performance monitoring) and https://yourbrowser.is/ (detecting end-user browser details). Probably more to come soon. :)

We run a blog about web apps (reviews & more). I will be sharing some of our best articles from time to time. ;)

  213. 1

    Hey Guys,

Great to finally join the community on here. Long time lurker if I'm honest.

I founded a design and marketing agency about one year ago and just pivoted to focus all my efforts on building recurring revenue through two services , Clever PPC Marketing and Creative Landing Page design.

The first year wasn't so great but I'm going to change that this year. I'm not sure who said it but the motto "You never fail unless you give up" is what I live by.

Looking forward to chatting with some of you guys, getting your advice and sharing my journey on here!

  214. 1

Hi all. I've been reading IH a while, but only signed up today. I'm excited to participate more here.

I've been working on the launch of my new WP plugin: https://starfishwp.com. It's a reputation management (ratings/reviews) plugin that helps people encourage great reviews while internalizing negative feedback. I'm really excited about the response so far, as well as the features we'll be adding in our upcoming updates.

Simultaneously I'm pivoting my core website design and management business based on an article I read here on IH actually. It's a lot of work doing both. But I plan on making 2018 my year and hopefully hit 2019 with more financial and time freedom to spend on my family and make up for lost time this year.

Hi! I'm a developer, working for the feds in fisheries management. I've been blogging for a while about software development, leadership, and how they intersect.

Hi all. My name is Bart, I am an interweb handyman.

I have built more than 20 projects since last 10 years:

-I have been an owner of one of the first DDOS protected hosting companies

-I have created more than 15 marketing projects and worked with around 2,000 customers

-For some time I have run a game development company, that created few games for mobile phones for a large company

-Been consulting (also for free) small business owners and startups

-Worked as a freelancer developer (still doing this)

-I am building a bootstrapped startup now that will be released in a month or so

I have always wanted to build my experience up and not be bound by a specific set of skills. I am starting to settle now, creating a small business oriented startup and slowly planning a family.

Looking forward to be a part of this community as I can see it growing rapidly and becoming, together with HN, a place to hand for startup owners.

Hello, I just literally signed up a couple of minutes ago, but I have heard about this place sometime last month. I've only been reading community topics a few days ago and l have to get around to listening to the podcasts.

I'm a web developer of 10 years. I do not have a strong network or reputation, and I don't have some amazing product or website but at least I have my Github: http://github.com/ccajas

I've worked for several startups and other small businesses, but they have been mostly unfulfilling in the long run. I wasn't proactive enough because I was afraid of stepping on coworkers' toes if I wanted to do something beyond my responsibilities.

While I'm looking for my next job I'm setting some time aside to pursue a business on a side based on one of my hobbies. Am I setting out to become a full-fledge indie hacker? I don't know yet. Right now I'm just settling on some fixed revenue goals for this business, and playing it by ear.

I have also a prize of 200 000 EUR to be give away in cash and i know that everybody will be interested in that. I already have raving fans about the invitation only aspect and the main growth hackers already found themself in.

I am making it much easier to join, but i still have a little work on it

Thanks Courtland for this awesome community.

Hi there, I am Ernesto, software engineer working in the Bay Area. Interested in all things development/coding and how to help more people launch software companies and/or contribute to them.

  222. 1

I'm Auston. I've built lots of fun products like JINXD.co and CBlocks.io - always listening to customers & trying to build what they want or need.

Looking forward to being a member of this community.

Hi Everyone! Frequent lurker and decided to sign-up after saying i'd do so once i'd started my 2018 project (which i have done now)!

Have built and launched a few side projects to varying degrees of success - packrocket (a packaging supermarket); http://zilinga.com (life balance).

My 2018 project is all around helping small businesses and startups use A.I. and machine learning https://upstartai.com . Working on the product in the background so as of now it's largely content - would love to hear comments to help shape the product particularly around any pain points with using AI for your startups.

    Bon chance!

  224. 1

Hey Hackers - my name is Mike. I've enjoyed reading the experiences of other entrepreneurs for some time now and thought it might be a good time to start sharing some experiences of my own.

I recently exited my first startup, an open source software consulting firm I owned for 13 years. The reason for this change had to do with the community around the platform, it felt like some kind of a gold rush was going on and reconnecting with the original spirit was becoming harder and harder.

I am working on 2 other startups, both of which are in semi-stealth mode. One is a hardware company focused on graphene and novel spectroscopy devices, the other is a music platform backed by a cyrptocurrency.

Moving from being an expert on software to a novice with hardware / finance has been a really exciting trip. A lot of satisfaction comes from not knowing all the answers or being the smartest guy in the room. It opens me up to learning new things and growing as a person / entrepreneur. My business approach in both startups is focused on Lean Startup techniques, and I've become a total Steve Blank fan. I've also met a lot of people in other fields in a very short time, and found inspiration in how others want to see me succeed.

  225. 1

Hello all, I'v been building software for other people for nearly twenty years now and have decided that this year I should try to launch my own SaaS/Product. Still in the research phase, looking for the right opportunity. Whatever it will be, it will be bootstrapped and small!

  226. 1

    Hi everyone!

Been lurking for a while, but thought I'd get more active.

I'm a dev who's going to try out the digital nomad life end of this year and trying to launch a few things along the way. I build web and mobile applications, mostly working in Javascript (node.js and frontend).

I've built https://pinmark.io last year, but haven't really put any time or effort into it since launch. I work at a startup in Amsterdam and have been working on some freelance projects as well with companies like Heineken.

At the moment am working on a project on the Stellar Network blockchain and a meeting-related efficiency tool.

Anyways, love to e-meet you all!

  227. 1

    Hello everyone, Renáta here.

One year ago I launched my very first company. I focus on product design, so I help my clients with their branding and various custom design solutions. Before that, I worked as a front-end developer. My motivation was to bring my web design skills to a whole next level, by actually understanding, learning and being able to code what I design.

I have a few ongoing projects now, both for clients and personal also. I joined IH because it's offering me a great amount of motivation and inspiration. Quitting the social platforms and living in quite a remote city can make you feel like you're alone sometimes and it feels very good to have a nice community by your side.

For my longer term plan, I wish to launch more digital products and become a full-time indie hacker and I would love to be able to travel more and continue working on projects I believe in.

  228. 1

Hi, I am Tushar Sharma, a technophile working for an IT company in India. I developed several projects for my company and as a freelancer over an exciting journey of 4 years.

Right now I'm building https://www.distajob.com, the first remote job listing website in Spanish, and currently looking for entrepreneurs to test it!

    Hello everyone!

Just wanted to say hello, been here a while. Just wanted to say that this is a great place and community with lots of interesting stories and all very inspiring.

I'm a developer myself, have had a few side projects on the go, on and off the past couple of years. I've been inspired by this place, and I hope to launch something soon and share what I have learnt soon.

  232. 1

Hello everyone! My name is Gabriel Fritz, I'm from Brazil. I work as a Data Scientist at Legal Labs (startup). Currently, looking for cool data driven side projects to work on! :D

  233. 1

    Bonjour indiehackers!

Karim here, I'm a developer from Reunion Island, living currently in Barcelona, Spain. I've been listening from time to time to the podcast, and I didn't know there was a community like this behind!

I don't have a big portfolio of side-projects here my first one: -

🔥A desktop App to track cryptocurrencies: https://moonitor.io

  234. 1

Hey guys! The name is Petr. I started as junior developer, followed by senior and head of the [dev] department until I got incredibly bored and finally went freelance 🙋‍♂️🥂. I've discovered IH quite recently.

Currently, my biggest struggle is deciding if it's better to do occasional work for others and build stuff on the side, or just cut all your income and force yourself to ship stuff that have to make money.

What I've built in the last few months/years:

🍅 3v1 Pomodoro timer, time tracker & task manager - Tomatoid

This was actually first side-project of mine. Started it while I was still junior developer. I'm using it daily for my freelancing. [https://www.tomatoid.com]

🌆 Location aware venue search engine - Navihub

Currently not maintained. Detects your location and performs fulltext search using multiple data sources (google, bing, nokia here, yelp, foursquare) and displays the results. [https://www.navihub.net/]

    😄 Webcomic aggregator - WebcomicZone

Checks several webcomics periodically and informs about new episodes. The idea is not having to check multiple websites yourself. [http://www.webcomic.zone/]

    💼 Trushworthy.biz

Soon to be MVP of crowdsourced business/project/product/website database with various indicators and indexes. This should help you decide which products are worth your time and money.

Example: You are not happy with your current note-taking app. Different, even better, app was released recently. Should you move all your notes and switch to this new app? It's risky move, because new businesses tend to not stick around for long time. Well, this site should help you with that.

Thanks for the opportunity to introduce myself and congratz to @csallen and @channingallen for creating this community.

    "Knowledge wants to be free"

I am Shahriar, a Bangladeshi Social Entrepreneur! I care to change the world for the betterment of everyone.

I believe that education is a right for all; that schools were made to give knowledge to everyone. But today when I look at educational institutes, I feel sad when I see that the institutes are either taking those who are over qualified or already know everything or those who have a lot of money and can afford their education.

Sadly, the ones in between are left over and never given justice.

People think poverty is the root of all problems! But I believe that poverty itself is just a problem and the root of it is illiteracy.

So I started ISNPO to give personalized help (advise) to all the students out there who wish to study more but can't pursue their dreams due to not having sufficient weight in their bank balance.

My vision is to make an Online Tuition-Free Degree Granting School, College and University so we can revolutionize the world of education. No limit of seats, no limitations of money. And no more, "One teacher standing in front of 100 kids; all of which have different gifts, different dreams, different needs yet are being taught same things the same way!"

So I'm looking for people to collaborate with me. I am looking for opportunities to execute my vision as I believe, "A vision without execution is hallucination!"

We currently have Bangladesh's largest scholarship portal with approximately 100k users.

I am also looking for any suggestions from people out there about how I can move bit forward and how I can enhance the entire thing.

Hi, fellow Indie Hackers! I've been lurking for a long time and finally decided to give my own project a go!

🚀I finally launched my first website template yesterday and it is a great feeling. My first theme is called Apollo, check it out 👉https://www.themelatte.com/theme/apollo

My side project is called ThemeLatte, where I design and develop website templates. My full-time job is a designer and developer for a startup here in Houston, Texas.

Now that I have finally launched something, the itch to create more is strong! I plan on launching several more themes over the next month or two.

Anyways, thanks for listening and I will see you guys around! 👋

Hey!! Been a long time reader of the interviews and posts here but decided to signup and get involved today.

I'm new to development and recently came up with a super simple idea to hack together ( just10jobs.com ) it takes the users ip to get a location (not a perfect method yet) and then displays 10 random jobs from that location from Indeed, it does not work for all countries just yet but happy with how it turned out. Main idea is to try and surface jobs you normally would not search for and help to get a quick glance of what available.

Looking forward to chatting more with everyone! 👋

Hello everyone, thought I would finally graduate from lurker to contributor. Been loving the podcast for some time now and recently enjoyed binging out on all the text interviews. Looking to get more involved in the community here.

    A bit about me...

    • 🍻 25 year-old Scotsman living in London.

    • ⚙️ Masters in Engineering from Imperial College London.

    • ☀️ During the day working for a big multinational.

    • 🌙 Nights and weekends building and marketing side projects.

    • 🛫 Ultimate aim is for side projects to finance move to mainland Europe to focus on entrepreneurship full-time.

    • 👨‍🔧👨‍🔧 Two engineer brothers who also help out when available.

Self-taught web developer currently playing around with JQuery and Python.

    Current project:

Being a serial goal-setter I was sick of using clunky excel sheets to manage my life admin so coded a custom web app which lets me track my goals, habits and budget from anywhere. For lack of a better name its called SuccessOnTap (link below).

    www.successontap.io

It is the perfect solution for me and I'm now checking whether it is useful for anyone else (decent response so far). Building a small Beta testing community right now. Feel free to check it out if you are interested in goals, life admin, being more organised, etc.

A big hello and looking forward to being more active in the community here!

Hello everyone, just wanted to introduce myself to this great community. I am a developer from The Netherlands for quite some years now, and next to my job I'm always working on side projects to experiment with web technologies. It's my plan to turn those projects into some serious products that will be used by actual people :-).

I'm looking forward to read about all kinds of products being developed by indie hackers, share ideas and motivate each other.

    Cheers,

    Arie

Good evening ladies and gentlemen. My name is Gat Leon.

I have worked in many fields and had a wondrous amount of experiences in my lifetime. I'm a man and building software expressly for men.

I seek to become a better man and am building a sparse utilitarian tool to help me do so. I'm building it for all men and not just for myself.

It should be a journey and I am looking forward to spending parts of that journey here on this excellent website.

  246. 1

Hi! Love this community and excited to get involved. I'm currently in the midst of leaving my current media startup I co-founded , and currently working on my first e-commerce side project, so I'm here for all the learnings and to add as much value as I can!

  247. 1

Came here by the way of ProductHunt, very excited to join this community!

I'm a Creative Director by day, and two of the side projects I've been working on bringing to life are:

    http://thegamefanatics.com

This has been a blog I've ran since college - slowly pivoting it to be a hub for diverse content creators in gaming & tech.

    http://fanaticalmind.com

After years working in marketing companies, I got tired of the cycle - I set out to work for myself, with my own values: experiences and storytelling matter, and helping brands connect with passionate audiences.

  248. 1

Hi, everyone. I'm Ashley from Glasgow, Scotland. I'm excited to start contributing to this community! I'm building https://withjack.co.uk/. I also like video games, photography and my dog, Indie.

A lot of people ask why I'm building a business in the insurance space, so I have a bit of a backstory here: https://iamashley.co.uk/about/

Can't wait to get to know some of you :-)

Hey folks- my name's Dan and I run marketing at Apps Without Code. We're an online business school for your startup idea — we help non-technical entrepreneurs build apps and launch startups, on a budget... without writing a single line of code.

Awesome to see what y'all are working on!

Brand new member, Chris!! Found indiehackers a few weeks ago but only just joined. Designer/developer by trade working for a small creative agency in the UK.

Currently working on an app to help those in the workplace have a starting point for different projects and helping with filing systems. Looking into different options with monetisation but solving the problem first. Will be posting previews when built.

Hello fellow hackers, my name is Mido and I'm a software engineer from NZ. I enjoy making games and apps. Last year, I launched a nutrition app called Foodzilla.io

I've recently quit my job to focus full time on my app. I joined to get inspiration from fellow hackers and get feedback on my work. Thanks!

  252. 1

Hey guys. My name is Gilbert and I've been hacking away on stuff for years (see my project history at https://dev7studios.co). My most successful side project was the Nivo Slider. I'm currently working on https://carprices.guide.

Hi all, Nemanja here, founder of Web Bay https://webbaysolutions.com/ web agency that helps EU / International associations with all of their technology needs.

As a side project my team started https://ShareGuru.io , smart tool with a simple mission: "Links you share will look amazing on social media". It's still has only the very basic features but plan is to improve it in the coming weeks.

I'm learning a lot with ShareGuru project and actually this is how I found and fall in love with IH! Community is amazing and true source of inspiration.

On a personal note I'm 29, married and have two wonderful little daughters. Older one is two an half years old and younger one has 11 months. If there weren't for them to wake me up at night I wouldn't have time to work on ShareGuru and browser IH :)

  254. 1

Hello fellow indie hackers, I'm following IH since it' s launch. Great work.

About me, I'm a Full Stack Web Developer, Freelancer. Been freelancing for last 4 years. Have worked on side projects but yet to have something to show.

    Have fun.

    Hi all!

I'm Kevin, an enthusiastic hacker/maker who has long been working on projects (professional, side, entrepreneurial, etc). Really digging all the great things you are building, and I've been checking out your sites and testing your projects.

I am a builder -- just about anything. I have a wicked appreciation for great designers and great design. Am about 20 years into the industry. I started by breaking into an early ISP when I was 14 and immediately offering to help secure them (that was back when the laws were a little loose). I've always wanted to help people, so it was always about making things better.

I've been building software for a long time. I just enjoy the thrill of building great things and seeing how people interact with it.

Sold off a development company back in the 2000s called ClearKey, to a client of ours who wanted to bring in the development team.

Built a hyperlocal social platform for museums, a Yelp-for-museums if you will. The app gained a top ranking for Museums in O'Reilly Media's Best iPhone Apps book. Struggled to make a fair revenue (museums with tens of millions budgets were not apt to spend) to keep things alive forever, but sold the data that we hand groomed (locations, categorization, contact, hours of operation, social network handles, etc) for a reasonable amount (and can still sell it if someone wanted it).

Wanting to crowdsource power consumption and heat generation data on consumer devices/products, putting together OpenPower, of which the data will be fully available by a public API. Hoping to get some large consumer electronics companies on board to bulk upload data.

Building HomeTender, a central hub for families to manage their households (manage home, dashboard of status, organize, shared calendars, etc)

Building a highly customizable operating system for embedded devices (like the Raspberry Pi) called BoxOS that is based on an upstream OS. Main goals are to make it configurable/upgradable from a mobile device, and allow others to make recipes for their own BoxOS derivatives with ease (as easy as it is to make a Docker recipe). Lots of work left to do here.

    And other things...

Hoping to forge some strong relationships with others who have similar interests.

Hello all! I am just starting to get involved with the community as a whole but I first head of Indie Hackers through an article someone shared and have been in love ever since! So without further ado, here is something about me:

    🎓 Education

    B.S. in Computer Science (2014)

    M.S. in Software Security (2017)

    👔Work

For the last 6-7 years, I have been programming as a freelancer and truly have never stopped. I currently work full-time at a fabulous place in Sweden where I write fullstack apps in Golang, and .NET Core. I moonlight with other languages and primarily focus on helping other startups build great products.

    ⛹️‍♀️Side Projects

My current side project is building an abstract tree parser for AWS Cloudformation scripts. I have other projects as well in my github account and love discovering new projects!

Overall, I have tons of development experience and would love to contribute to the community as a whole but also to hear your stories!!! Pull me aside and tell me your story or just ask me anything! I am an open book and love meeting new/veterans to the startup indie hacking world 😊!!!

  257. 1

Hello all. I'm currently in the process of developing a digital archiving app which help users sync and save their digital footprint by preserving them privately before deleting publicly. So far i've created a landing page (www.znabit.com) and demo with the help of a friend but, that's about it. I would love to take the next step but i'm completely lost on how to create an mvp and the steps after that. I joined india hackers so i can communicate with people who were in this predicament and how they were able to overcome these challenges.

  258. 1

Hello all, Sergio here. I am a non techie dabbling in the world of tech. I just released an Apple Watch/iPhone app (thank goodness for awesome freelancers on Upwork!). I wish I had discovered this community sooner, it may have made the process much easier!

The app is called Nujible, and is a tool for those who find themselves suffering from a scatterbrain in class (like myself). It gives you a subtle, periodic nudge on your Apple Watch or iPhone that reminds you to stay focused.

    https://nujible.com

    Any feedback is much appreciated!

Hi all! First post, so might as well make it an introductory one. :)

I'm Karim Maassen, a Dutch entrepreneur and internet pioneer. Used to be a front-end team manager for almost seven years in total. Been working on several web projects and start-ups in the past and decided to pursue my dreams, one of which is:

    http://www.nwzer.com

A citizen journalism platform dedicated to leveraging the wisdom of crowds to challenge the existing journalism model (attention and advertisement-driven).

Besides that, I play poker (math and statistics are fun!), been playing Nintendo since 1985, run occasionally (hoping for a marathon in 2019!) and study languages to keep my brain jolted. (currently: 日本語 #weeabo)

Hope to get inspired and meet interesting people here!

  260. 1

    Hello!

I've been reading IH and listening to IH since the beginning but never posted anything until now.

I do analytics and conversion optimization during the day and work on my side projects during nights and week-ends.

I've done mostly half-harted/failed projects until now. But I'm getting more disciplined :)

My latest project is an app that makes it easy to do user research regularly and quickly: https://userstand.com/

I can help on subjects pertaining to analytics, conversion optimization and marketing automation.

  261. 1

Hello fello indie's, I just joined and I am really excited about this community. I am looking for inspiration and to learn from many of you. Thanks for having me!

  262. 1

Hello! I'm Tim Abell, a Reading UK based programmer. Currently contracting for big enterprise types and trying to get the hang of monetizing side-projects in the hope can sell useful things directly to people instead of always depending on an existing organisation to ship worthwhile things.

http://timwise.co.uk/ - my embarrassing website that after every rework never seems to achieve what I want or get the message out I'd hoped for.

  263. 1

    Hey IH Community!

My name is Wes Wagner. I'm a student, startup marketer, and soon-to-be digital nomad. My work revolves mostly around marketing content, analytics, and digital advertising for B2B SaaS companies.

As far as my IH side project, I have a few marketing SaaS ideas I want to test out when I start traveling after graduation, but I'm focusing on finishing up university for now.

As far as advice...I'm not a developer, but I have one suggestion for Indie Hacker developers after having worked at Cheddar (billing SaaS platform for developers) for the last few months: when you're ready to start charging for your product, be careful building a billing system yourself. The process of integrating billing into your software might end up taking a lot longer than you originally think.

Look for open-source projects or tools that help streamline the process(I'm biased towards Cheddar's API) so you can build your software and monetize it as quick as possible instead of potentially spending another couple of weeks just building the billing system.

  264. 1

    Hi All,

Just came across this site.Looks really friendly.

Hi everyone! I'm a self-taught engineer working at a startup with only about 2 years of experience. I just started hearing about this place from so many different sources that I just had to check it out.

I currently have no side projects, but if I could make a single dollar from something I created on my own, It would make me immensely happy, so that's my current goal. Hope to learn a lot from here!

Hi I’m an indie developer working on a mind mapping app for iOS and macOS called Trout. I live by the sea in Peniche, Portugal.

I’m trying to make my App Store sales a liveable amount and if it isn’t working in 12 months time maybe I’ll go back to working for someone, but for now I’m enjoying surfing every day and working on things that I like.

Hello everyone! My name is Nikos and I'm sending you my regards from sunny Athens, Greece.

I am a software developer and have been writing code one way or another since Ι was a teenager. My first real gig was a computer game (DOS, shoot'em up) we developed with a few friends more than 20 years ago when we were in high school.

Unfortunately that didn't work out commercially, so ever since I have been working as software developer in various companies. For the most part of it I worked for an IT security company, but I've also been through my fair share of ERP and "enterprise" apps. Apart from my main job all that time I was constantly looking for freelance work whenever I could find it, since I was always trying to take the next step.

For the past five years I am working for Geosysta, a company we started with the aim to develop Geotechnical Engineering software. Our goal is to develop and launch modern day software applications for civil, geotechnical engineers and mining professionals.

    So far we have developed

a borehole logging SaaS application, which will be part of a larger suite of applications.

We have also developed and maintain

an informational focal point for geotechnical engineers and geologists .

I know our field of business is not cutting edge or "sexy", but we want to introduce modern software to a sector filled with old-school windows applications and hopefully make everyone's work a little more pleasant.

Hey, guys. I'm Dustin and I'm a Microsoft .NET MVP, Pluralsight author and I have a few YouTube channels in which I produce technical content. I also speak at user groups and code camps regularly.

I've been a software engineer for 21 years, ran my own consultancy for 6 years and spent some time as a director of engineering for a medical company. I've worked on some high end systems for some very large companies.

I started writing code when the best thing you could do with javascript was change the text in the status bar of the browser, and have watched as technology grew by leaps and bounds which is the problem; I'm bored with technology now. Designing and building out line-of-business apps and back-end systems no longer holds any interest for me.

As an entrepreneur, I'm always looking for inspiration and good ideas to jump on. Outside of technology, I have two automotive related companies that are doing well, but I still feel like something is missing.

The fiery passion I had and used to build my career has fizzled out and I stand at a cross-roads. I'm looking for inspiration and motivation to continue on, or the courage to change directions completely which is why I joined Indie Hackers.

Recently I've decided to finally dive into one of my life long dreams which is to build games. I have no idea why I didn't start earlier, but better late than never. I'm setting a goal to have at least one published game in the marketplace by the end of 2018.

I look forward to interacting with everyone and reading about your stories and projects.

Hi all, my name is Omar Arambula. I've been in the photo/video editing space for the last 6 years. I co-founded http://instasize.com

We grew to 30 million MAU @ one point. Have recently pivoted to subscription business model.

I'd love to share any ideas that have helped me along the way and hope to learn the same from this community.

Hi! I found this site on a blog and it's exactly what I've been looking for.

For the last 4 years, I've been working on a product called Social Opinion in my spare time.

It's based on machine learning and MSc research I done a few years ago and applies AI an ML to detect sentiment and find sales leads on Twitter.

A few months ago, Twitter invited me to their GQ in NYC where I went through the software and I've pumped my own money into the software as I have a full-time job which can make it hard to code in the evenings and weekends!

You can find out more about my journey on my blog at www.jamiemaguire.net

Hey everyone, Omkar here. It is fun to see the energy here and I hope show case my projects here too.

I've been working in the innovation Industry for close to 7 years now. After getting my degree in Electronics in India, I bootstrapped a startup called "Logic Engine" which helped S&M scale manufacturing companies analyse their machinery on the Cloud. While it was a fun ride, we faced multiple hurdles while trying to scale our business and shut shop after 3 years.

Over the last one year I have been heavily invested in studying and understand Blockchains (yes, the new kid in town), and created http://0x8.in to document my thoughts and experiments.

I built Wasabi a command line tool to build and deploy smart contracts on Ethereum. Wasabi was built purely for educational purposes. http://0x8.in/eth-wasabi

While experimenting I've also built the following Dapps testable on Ropsten (a test network for Ethereum).

A Dapp that works like Twitter on Ethereum

A Dapp to Notarize files on the Ethereum

I'm currently playing with the 0x Protocol for ERC20 exchanges. I've planned a couple side projects along the same lines for 2018, which I hope to share with you guys shortly.

Hey, all! Kent Brewster here; been fiddling with computers since 1977. Formerly Atari, Apple, WebMD, Yahoo, Netflix; currently Pinterest, where I'm the one to blame if the Pin It button is busted.

Side projects are mostly ugly and political, so put on your peril-proof sunglasses:

Small bug report: while signing up for IndieHackers I discovered that I can't enter my town, which is a bummer. GeoBytes knows about Palo Alto, where I do not live, but not East Palo Alto, where I do.

Hi, I'm Lee, I've made some cool and useful opensource projects such as svgbobrus.

Most of my opensource project is in rust. I'm hoping to find a co-founder here in indiehackers, for making a business that revolves around the apps that I've been building.

👋Hello! I'm a product designer (currently at Kickstarter after 7 years at Google). I'm teaching myself backend stuff by way of building my side project: https://feedmirror.com.

📡Feedmirror is a layer between JSON feeds and the websites/services that want to use the data. It fetches remote feeds on a regular basis (hourly/daily/weekly), sets CORS permissions (for cross domain communication) and then stores them on Google's global CDN for fast response times and high availability.

💡The genesis of this idea was wanting to embed Medium posts on my website. Medium provides a JSON endpoint, but it isn't CORS enabled (deliberately), so you can't request it from the front end.

As a result, Feedmirror natively supports Medium profiles/publications, and provides a JS snippet to embed Medium content on your website.

Looking forward to learning more and meeting people through this community!

    Hello indie hackers!

My real name is Buddy. I've been a professional programmer for 18 years. Along the way, I've ran a couple consulting companies, worked in several startups, and various bigger companies. I've written code in over 35 programming languages across paradigms: functional, OOP, and declarative. As a kid, I feel in love with innate creativity involved in programming and have been programming ever since. My interests, however, have always been broader having studied art, design, philosophy, psychology, and Acroyoga.

For over a year, I've been working on BlissUI. It's an AMS, think CMS but for apps. I'm love with the products "why", "to remove all technical barriers that get in the way of inspiration." BlissUI removes many of the technical challenges around creating apps so you can focus on bringing ideas to life.

I'm working to slowly grow the user base to create and build sustainable product/platform for years to come.

    Some of the interesting bits:

    • A rad IDE/WYSIWYG that is design centric (eventually removing the need for code)

    • Low-level programming model so that developers aren't restricted by the platform

    • Export what you make to your existing products or publish on BlissUI.com for free hosting

    • Pairs well with Firebase

    • Create, share, import components

    • Modify design and behavior in the same IDE

    • Supports open-source

    • Growing support for multiple build targets (Web, Mobile, various frontend frameworks: currently React)

    • I built BlissUI with BlissUI (an Inception-y architecture) which makes it possible to release new features regularly.

    Targeted users:

    • Designers w/ light programming experience

    • Frontend devs

    • Can also be used by anyone since most of the features are straightforward.

I'll be releasing a new website, docs/videos, along with new features in the coming months. For now, it's free to use, so try it out if you're feeling adventurous!

    Watch the video

    Visit BlissUI

I'm looking forward to learning and sharing!

    Hey everyone,

I came across Indie Hackers yesterday for the first time and this community is exactly what I need right now. After mainly doing freelancing as a software developer for a couple of years I got frustrated too many times and last year it just felt inevitable to start my own business so I quit my freelance job in July 2017. After taking a break I got started in November and the beginning was a lot harder that I expected. I do struggle with being my own product manager but after getting stuck a few times I made some good progress now. What do you most struggle with?

I have developed a fairly simple app and not at all a unique app but still I would appreciate all kinds of feedback ranging from design, marketing to content.

Nothing wrong with simple! Feel free to post a new thread asking the community for feedback. 👍
