Is this helpful? A daily email filled with software opportunities.

Hey Indie Hackers, I'm Cory!

I'm working on www.oppsdaily.com, a daily newsletter containing software business opportunities.

After reading most of the interviews here and getting super inspired, I found myself in a familiar place. I was feeling motivated, but I had no idea what to work on. This led me to look for a list of real user problems, but what I found either cost a lot of money, or wasn't in a format that was easily digestible.

So, I decided to start opps daily. I find people who have a problem that can be solved by software, ask them a few questions, and send you the answers every day.

I'd love to hear your feedback on this idea, or on the landing page! You can also drop me a line - cory@oppsdaily.com

Happy Hacking! :)

I've gone ahead and put together a recap of how the launch went. Complete with stats!

Here's a recap of stats from the first week. Indiehackers blew up my inbox :D

For those of you who have mined this deep, I've put up stats from our 2nd week. Enjoy! :D

Pretty cool. If I understand correctly, this newsletter will contain problems people face in their day-to-day in hope that a developer will read it and come up with a software solution?

    1. 2

Yep, that's the idea. It's meant to help inspire your next project or business.

Here's an example of one of the more detailed responses I got:

"I work in the healthcare industry as a radiologist.

A painful problem that I face is getting a hold of clinicians. I often need to get a hold of a clinician to tell them about an important finding on the imaging examination for their patient. Unfortunately, the current system of pagers is not satisfactory.

I would like a software program that allows me to send out secure texts to their cellphone with a read receipt so that I know that they have gotten the information. I could text it to their phone, give the medical record number and name of the patient, and receive a time stamp of when they looked at my text. I would need a separate program that would record the time stamp and it would need to be completely secure to comply with HIPAA.

I would definitely pay for this software. It would save me so much time. It would save millions of dollars a year just at my institution. We need to get rid of pagers, they are so out of date."

      1. 2

Sounds like an MVP that could be pretty easily done with Twilio. But I know nothing of HIPAA.

  2. 4

Nice! Pretty cool idea. Looking forward to my first email. Actually... can you send one email right after subscribing? Like a confirmation? Since you have my attention now, it would be good to profit!

One area I'm interested in is personal finance. I know you say you "ask people about the problems they face at work" but why just at work? People use software for other things too.

Thanks for signing up Vladfr!! A welcome email is actually a great idea and it's going on my to-do list. Also I'll try a variant on my interview questions, where I ask for just a general life problem and check the results.

Thanks so much for the feedback :D

    Hey mate,

Just signed up too. Sounds great. We run a daily newsletter at SitePoint called Versioning, where we (humorously) curate the top links in dev and design.

I'm going to keep an eye on this to see how it progresses, perhaps we can team up down the line.

    1. 1

Great to have you on the list! :D

Absolutely, would LOVE to collaborate with you guys :)

  4. 3

Hi Cory, nice project, here you have a new subscriber!

Although I think everyone should start solving their own problems I think is always nice to see if you can help in other areas.

    Thank You!

    1. 2

Thanks for signing up hacalox :)

If you have any particular industry you're interested in, drop me a line and I'll keep an eye out for opportunities!

      1. 3

Actually I was thinking... what problems can a reporter have?

Thank You and keep it up!

        1. 2

I received the one below, but it's a bit vague. It looks like reporters definitely have issues with their software, but this person neglected to say if it was a particular program. Regardless, looks like there may be an opportunity there ;)

          The Opportunity

"I am a news anchor and web writer for television news station.

I face a number of issues at work pertaining to existing software. The software works slowly and requires too many steps to complete a task.

I'd like new software that could streamline the process so there are fewer steps, which can be completed quickly.

I would not personally pay for the software, but would want my employer to pay for it."

          1. 3

No idea what the software is, so too vague to help there :D

  5. 2

The text on your blog is centered, making it hard to read.

    1. 1

Thanks for the feedback hoschi! I've gone ahead and left aligned everything. Let me know if you see anything else that can be spruced up! :D

  6. 2

Really great! You have a new subscriber :)

Btw. where do you get all the ideas from?

    1. 1

Thanks Schweigi, glad to have you on the list :D

Its a mix between messaging my network, outsourcing, and other contacts.

  7. 2

Hi Cory, Great idea! Subscribing for your daily email! I also have an idea that could take this forward, look for an email from Amrithaa Punjabi!

    1. 2

      Hey Amrithaa,

Thanks for signing up :D. I'll drop you a line shortly!

  8. 2

Very cool, thanks for sharing! The problem you're solving is a big one: entrepreneurs are spending tons of time learning and reading, but when it comes time to start, they have no idea what product or service to build. I'll subscribe!

    1. 1

Wow thanks so much. Indie Hackers has been a huge inspiration while getting started, and was by far the friendliest place to launch! :D

  9. 2

Really like the idea! I signed up.
