Hi IH,
after getting positive feedback from a few users on /r/instagram I thought I'd open source my web extension with which I am growing my own account with.
Here's what it does:
Displays the amount of (followers/following) in front of the username
Highlights accounts which you are following in yellow
Highlights accounts which are following you in yellow
Marks private accounts blue
Marks accounts blue which haven't posted anything on IG for the last 30 days. Reasoning: Engaging with their very old content often comes weird and not worth the effort.
Marks accounts red which follow too many accounts. Reasoning: It's rather unlikely for your content to stand out amongst 500+ other accounts.
Marks accounts red which follow almost the same amount of their followers. Reasoning: Probably follow-for-follow account with minuscule engagement from their part.
Marks accounts green which have a low amount of following and follower which usually means they are a normal person. These accounts show the highest likelihood of engagement because your content will stand out more if you are competing with less other accounts in their following list.
Only engage with green accounts if you value your time
Current hard-coded settings:
Most recent post is older as 30 days: blue
Follower / Following or Following / Follower ratio is between 0.9 and 1.0: red
More than 1000 followers (maybe celebrity account): red
Follows more than 500 accounts: red
You can find it here and adjust the settings to your liking in content.js: https://github.com/martinschleiss/instagram-helper
Pretty much hacked together but it does the job very well if you don't want to use bots.
Also make sure to not overuse it. You'll notice it when the extension can't query the account information anylonger. IG then returns 429 status codes and you'll have to let it chill for a while.
I liked this concept very much...
Heres something from my secret files that you can add for your users . ..I got great feedback on it .
Its open source as well .

your users may also like this open source one too...its for Twitter

I wouldn't call it "users" :D More like 2 people but they where super into it.
Cool, cool. How do you use it for growing your account?
The twitter one looks dope. Did you use webgl? It works like a charm on Firefox 👍
I didn't make those..I found them doing some open source research for my site.
The Instagram script helps with user retention...users returned ALOT on the test site to see how their account was spreading virally ...The twitter script was very successful as well ..because
Twitter is very flat...although we did have to show them how to use it a little .
we created a kind of social dashboard where they could view their
social accounts...we test marketed these 2 scripts as tools and it kept our test users on the site longer & gave us more user conversations...My idea for you would be to create the twitter page
and then add a chat room on the left side of the page where people using the app could chat & comment on tweets , news etc
