Out of all the people around me, I think I doubt myself the most. How do you inspire yourself?

On certain days I find myself doubting my decisions. What tips do you have to maintain a positive attitude and keep striving for what you set out to do?

Hey Glenn, we all feel like that sometimes, every one of us here.

How I deal with it depends on what kind of doubts or concerns I have:

If something is overwhelming or too complex for me, I break it down into smaller and smaller parts until they're a size I can happily handle.

If I'm uncertain because I don't know enough, I research. If my research reveals that I can't really ever know, or no one knows the answer yet, I pick whatever feels most right. Since I'm doing the best I can, anything further is out of my hands and that actually makes me feel better about it.

Ironically, my hardest decisions are always the positive-positive decisions, where no matter what it will be a good outcome but of course I want the best outcome. In these cases I find it's best to get out of my own head and focus on enjoying the simple things in life for a little bit. Maybe take a walk or even a few days away from it. When I get back the decision always seems smaller and less significant, making it easy to decide.

Finally for guiding my life in general, I just keep asking, is this what I want to do every day? And if not, is it getting me any closer? If not (again), I try to make a change.

You don't need a positive attitude all the time. If you can muster a few hours of positivity a few hours a day, you'll do fine. You will feel crappy and doubtful sometimes, but who doesn't? Negativity is ok. I try to stay aware of my brain chemistry. Am I hungry? Did I sleep ok? Is that why I don't feel great today?

Don't let doubts paralyze. In my experience, doing is better than not doing, because even if you screw up you learn. Do nothing, and you learn nothing.

Meditation is a great way to tackle impostor syndrome.

Headspace has a 30-day pack on self-esteem that I found very helpful.

Hey @AlignmentApps, totally understand that feeling.

A piece of advice I've received that has helped me with making decisions is the following:

You either win or your learn.

When you frame your decisions into what seems like a win-win situation, you might find yourself doubting your decisions less and less. Of course, the hope here is that eventually you'll get better and better with your decision making, but something like that takes time.

Good luck, always happy to chat!

Sometimes I doubt myself and do not know what to do. The feeling really bits me a lot. When i come across such bad situation, i usually choose to read some positive books or browse some inspiring forums. Reading inspiring stories or experiences really make me more confident.

This massively depends on what you choose to build your self-esteem around and the good news is you can change that if your current model isn't working for you.

Im not the smartest or most experienced person I know but I am always positive and I don't spend time doubting myself because I build my self-esteem around being the guy that takes a challenge or a journey and figures it out. That necessarily involves sucking shit at first and making a whole lot of mistakes and experimenting then just sticking it out through the pain period until I eventually figure it out and everything clicks into place. I just focused on the process and how epic the journey is and not the results. In fact the more I suck shit in the beginning or the bigger I fuck up the better because it makes it an even better story when I grind it out and eventually win. Perseverance and curiosity are superpowers.
