I like that you can put a link in the new community posts now. However, why does it link directly instead of opening the conversation? This actually defeats the purpose because the link is ancillary to the conversation. The comments should be the focus not the link.
When you click the post it should should show the link on top just like in the preview but it should not hot-link directly to the site from the community post listing. It's weird that you need to click the little number of comments number below the headline to access the conversation if you put a link on the post.
I had the exact same thoughts myself. I don't like the UX of jumping in and out of threads only to click on one and be redirected to a new tab.
It would at least be helpful if there's a visual que to let you know that it's an internal or external link.
There actually is a visual cue in parenthesis right of the title, at least on desktop. But it's hard to notice and sometimes it links to another IH page entirely and masks itself like that. It's a problem. I think the confusion is that @CSallen looks at that page as a "catch all" but we see it differently. It's really a community feature. Not to downplay any other aspect of the website.
I agree, it's sometimes pretty confusing because you sometimes end up on a completely different website
