Hey Indie hackers!
So grateful for this community. It's been a huge source of inspiration and motivation for me.
I'm building a product to solve a couple problems I've had while working on Upscribe (embeddable lead generation forms) and other projects...
First, I want to be able to change and test pricing options without updating code.
Second, on new projects, I'm constantly having to rebuild;
Pricing page
Billing/plan management on the user side
Integration with Stripe (even though it's always a blast...no joke!)
So I've MVP'd TIERS (https://tiers.io). A pricing page builder with a simple API.
Would really appreciate advice on hurdles/questions that you think users may run into, features you'd like to see, etc.
Feel free to give the 14 day trial a go! I'm seriously more than happy to refund you if you forget to cancel or are unhappy with the experience!
Here is the link!
Thanks in advance for any input you might have! Let me know if you'd like me to post the dev stack :).
Great idea Josh!
Just a small note before I explore the product more. I think it could be useful to have "without code" keyword in your subheader as a selling point. Something like this maybe?
"Build a new pricing page in minutes without writing a single line of code."
Thanks for checking it out @tigran!
I will definitely try this. It doesn’t require code to build the pricing page but there is some when integrating the pricing page with your app (just very little code). I just don’t want to over promise. What do you think?
Sounds like a plan, Josh! You're on the right track! Good luck with everything.
Nice work Josh - and as we've spoke before, you already know I love upscribe!
Agree that a demo would be helpful.
Also look at doing an early-access yearly deal or lifetime deal - they have served me well!
Hey @bentossell, I’ve added a basic demo video of the builder to the homepage if you want to check it out.
Great! works a treat :)
Thanks for the comment @bentossell! Really appreciate the support :) (as well as https://www.newco.app/toolkit - so awesome!)
I will add a demo today!
Really appreciate that Ben, I will definitely look at putting a deal together.
This is an interesting idea. Who's your target market / use case?
Thanks Abi!
The target would be small to medium size SaaS companies. The idea is that this is just one more thing you don't have to spend hours building before you launch your product (or launch the paid version of an existing free product).
Hi Joshua,
The idea is gr8, but it would be more helpful if you add a demo via landing page
Hey @mangesh, I’ve added a video to the landing page. Let me know what you think!
Thanks @mangesh! I will add a demo video to the landing page today.
Hey Joshua,
The demo video looks gr8!
Thanks @mangesh! I appreciate the recommendation to add it.
This is a good idea - assuming its easy to set up, this would solve a lot of problems that are out there when it comes to pricing and members.
I agree with @poehah $50 seems steep - what are we actually getting with that?
Thanks @makr!
You can view my response to @poehah; as a solo-founder, every minute that I don't spend building (or re-building) features, is so valuable to me. I've honestly never really been able to test pricing because of the hassle it is to update the frontend, backend logic, and Stripe integration each time. This allows you to do it in a few clicks.
There is also a bunch of features I would really like to add in the near-future (I listed a couple of them in my response to @poehah).
This is a good idea and one I can see myself using too! However, $50/mo is too expensive for SaaS just starting out.
Thanks @poehah,
That is great to know! This is super helpful.
There are a few reasons I started with $50; for me there is a lot value in being able to test new pricing options easily. So much of a SaaS business hinges on pricing. It's also the dev time you are saving not having to build or maintain the pricing page, checkout, and user billing management.
I would also love to add a referral system and gamification - you can offer a free or partial free month if a user completes a desired action (e.g. share your app or finish their profile).
I agree, it's a hard nut to crack :-) I'd love to price my products higher too, and I tried, but it means a significant drop in purchasers.
The problem right now is that your landing page is not reflecting this road map you talk about. Moreover, you should never price a product for the features you will have in the future (but you know this of course :-) ).
I'm only looking at this from my point of view: I'm a developer and I have implemented Stripe multiple times successfully. Their API is thorough and easy to implement. Moreover, you are competing with popular platforms such as WordPress, where you can implement everything Stripe-related for as much as $49 per year.
With that in mind, $50/month is too much for the current offering :-).
I am still pricing based on the current set of features and I do think this is a good price. But it matters more what potential customers think is a good price!
I use WooCommerce on my other project and there are a lot of hacks needed to get it to work well for SaaS. I haven't had a chance recently to look at new alternative; what options are you referring to? (would be great to know)
Really appreciate your input @poehah. I will try lowering the price to $25 and see how people respond. I can always raise the price later, once/if there is more buzz or when there are more features.
Gravity Forms + the Stripe addon is quite powerful. I haven't tested it with subscriptions though.
Thanks @poehah, I will check those out too! Super helpful; I will keep this in mind as I am trying to differentiate tiers from other options.
