Show IH: Word Counter – Full Redesign w/ Autosave and Free Grammar Check!

Hey Indie Hackers!

I recently re-launched one of my original side-projects: https://wordcounter.io and would love to get your thoughts. As the title implies it's a web interface for counting words, characters, and keyword density.

First though, a big thanks to all the folks who offered feedback and ideas in the previous thread I put up a few months ago. 🙏

Over the ensuing months I completely overhauled the UI, layout and interactions, adding in some of most requested features from the past year (I used a Survey Monkey form to collect visitor feedback). These included:

  • Grammar Check

  • Autosave

  • Clear All Text

  • Font Family Options

  • Font Size Options

All the fonts are from Klim Type Foundry , and images are from Unsplash. The project is built using the static site generator Middleman and hosted on Netlify.

Happy to answer any questions and looking forward to hearing your feedback!

    Hey Alex,

You and I chatted via email a few months back about this project among other things. I love the redesign (although I loved the old design as well, they both look great). I am envious of your abilities when it comes to design.

SimilarWeb is crediting you with about 400k-500k in traffic per month. If that's even remotely accurate, that's very impressive. I will have to check out the new features, but at first glance they seem like they'll be very helpful to your users.

    Well done!

Hey @SamCreamer, I remember chatting over email, how are things going with you?! Thanks for the kind words, I've had the redesign in mind for quite a while time and finally found time to pull it off. There is one more feature I'm working, a previewing tool for Google meta tags, which is almost finished.

Hey @wasai, things are well, thanks for asking! Sounds good, I know where to go whenever I need a tool like this (or design inspiration). Looking forward to seeing your future projects as well, cheers.

How long did this take to build? Did you work on this solo? It's awesome!!

Hey @xanderjakeq, thanks for the note! I built the original version about a year or so ago in around 2-3 months of nights + weekends. This redesign took around 1.5 months part time.

Side projects for the win! Solid work here Alex. Looking forward to seeing what other tools related to copy, blogging, and marketing you might come out with next.
