Has anyone recently compared of both services recently? Which one comes out on top in your view?
My use case requires a more of streamlined vendor onboarding UX, which is why I’m not considering Stripe Connect Standard account type.
Ease of implementation is a key factor as I’m not a pro developer.
I’ve struggled to find much on the web about Braintree... which may be a sign I suppose!
Stripe Connect is very well documented and nicely designed from an API and UX point of view.
I love it, and it's how I built Trolley ( https://trolley.link ), my payments platform for startups, but there are some caveats.
In your post you say you're not considering the Standard account type.
Doing Custom or Express accounts can give you a slicker UX, but will increase your integration work a lot.
More than that, using Express or Custom accounts can make you, the Platform owner, liable for chargebacks and fraud, and also you'll have to pay a fee per account that you create.
If you haven't, it's worth spending some time to understand the financial implications of that on your business model.
However: have you seen the docs about deferred Standard account creation?
Essentially you can still use Standard accounts, not pay per-customer account fees, and leave all liability with Stripe + the customer, but have a slicker onboarding experience (Stripe gathers account details after registration instead of during)

Thanks for the comments. Yes the liability for fraud and chargebacks is certainly something that I’ve been considering carefully.
I hadn’t come across the deferred accounts - will read up on it, thanks!
I use Stripe Connect and can say that it is pretty amazing. I chose to use it simply because we were already using Stripe and their docs are superb. Plus we are looking to integrate with their new Terminal product.
I don't know much about Braintree Marketplace so I can't say if Stripe Connect is better.
