I know what you're thinking, subscriptions every time, right?
Well...
I make eye-popping maps designed to put websites with dull-as-ditchwater Google maps to shame. I'd like to offer these maps to end-users for a monthly subscription.
But I'm thinking I should make an exception for web designers, and charge them a fixed price for each map that they embed on their clients' websites.
Here's my reasoning:
Web designers often charge their clients a fixed fee to create a website, so would be unable to pass on the cost of a subscription.
Web designers know how to build websites, so would need less support to embed my maps.
Instead of selling my maps to end-users one-by-one, I could sell them once to a web designer, who'd then sell them to each of their clients. It seems right to reward web designers with better pricing for bringing in all those customers.
And here's my worry:
Should I offer a fixed price (rather than a subscription) to web designers?
I'd love to hear what you think!
(Thanks for your patience with my posting this again, since I realize that no one was able to click on it last time due to a glitch where you can't click on posts with links!)
So if you offer a fixed fee, your business won't be sustainable and you'll effectively be losing money for every sale. MoviePass also thought this was a great business model, and see where they're at now.
If you have recurring costs for every sale, then make sure these are covered in the initial sale. Otherwise go for a subscription model.
Perhaps come up with a subscription model specifically for web designers? For example, with this subscription, you'll get a license to use the map for 5 different clients. The designer can then pass this cost on to their client in any way they want. Just make sure your pricing is reasonable enough.
Hey @markjeffery how about fixed pricing for X number of maps?
So basically saying, for example, $10 for 1-10maps / $30 for 11-50maps.
Nice idea of selling to web designers rather than the end user.
I run a creative design agency and would be interested to check out your product. Care to share the website link?
