I wanted to share something which I've been doing recently, is simple and can make a big change to a lot of small indie developers and small startups out there.
What is it? Simple; whenever you are in any community like Indie Hackers, Product Hunt, Reddit, etc. Just use 1 second of your time to upvote any interesting new project, startup or website you find interesting. It means nothing for you and it will help all the small entrepreneurs out there get awareness from the crowded big projects market.
If you are already doing that, just ignore this message :)
Just 1 second can make a big difference!
I've always thought it'd be really cool to have some sort of badge that people can put on the bottom of their websites to tell people that they're an indie hacker.
Could be a good growth hack for indie hackers 🤔 lol
This is the best idea I heard today. I hope the founders of IH see this and create some badge so it can be linked back to profile on Indie hacker. I would certainly add it to all my projects.
I wish we could upvote twice
That's a great idea. Indie makers need a way to share that they aren't a faceless massive corporation...
Do you think it should be part of IH or a separate platform?
@channingallen ☝️☝️☝️
Agreed. If I read something and find it interesting or think it would be useful to someone (even if it isn't to me) I upvote. a lot of people only look at the top N posts on sites and never really make it down to the N+100th post so they don't see anything unless it has already been pushed up to the top. If something was interesting, made you think, or is generally good post, give it the upvote!
Agreed, anyone just starting will tell you that every little thing helps! :)
I agree. It's also fighting against passive consumerism. You can contribute in so many ways to the things and projects you like.
What a great reminder and idea. I've been starting to think the exact same way. If we all do this, it can really help independent hackers get more visibility into their projects and work.
And getting that visibility, interest, traffic can be such a huge motivator to keep making your project better.
Yes! ⬆️⬆️⬆️
That's something I like with IH (compared to HN for instance) is that it seems like the users of IH are more engaged. On HN, you already need followers to get to the frontpage or get an answer.
Also, HN software is crap, it's made difficult to look at new posts aka. you have to click on "new" or click several times "more". With IH infinite scrolling, it's very easy! Again, I repeat it in this topic. IndieHackers software is a blast!
The only thing is that IH is dedicated to growing a business and not also about technical/software discussions... or maybe it is?
I see no reason why you couldn't bring up a technical or software discussion...
Love this idea @ajimix! We've just created a newsletter to make it easier to find these indie hacker project/startup launches all across the web. Check it out and let me know what you think: http://signup.launchnotice.com
