What are you working on this month? (June 2018)

It's June — we're already nearing the midway point of the year! Fortunately that also means it's time for another "What are you working on" thread. Here's what you should do to join the discussion:

  1. First, respond to someone else who's commented, just to say hello or leave them some feedback!

  2. Next, leave your own comment describing what you're working on (or aspiring to work on), and your biggest goal for June.

And that'll do it! Can't wait to hear from everyone and see what you're working on!

  1. 23

I'm working on Pull Reminders which helps team knockout code reviews faster with Slack reminders and dashboards.

Goal for June is to knock out all features in progress and launch a blog for marketing!

    1. 3

That's a great idea. That would save me from having to constantly nag team members to review them.

    2. 3

I really wish we had this at my previous startup, where I had to guilt-shame people for code reviews :)

      1. 1
        1. 1

Oh also I just twitted about it and noticed you may not have added a twitter card (similar to opengraph): https://developer.twitter.com/cards/getting-started

          1. 1

Good catch! Thanks, I will get on top of that soon

    3. 3

Wow. Those are some really cool testimonials. As an engineer and team lead I gotta check this out. Thanks for posting this and good luck on the project.

    4. 3

Hi Abi, Pull Reminders looks great, one tiny bug report, seems there's no favicon on your site. :)

      1. 2

Good catch :) I'll add one soon!

    5. 2

That's really great. I face that on my 9to5 job sometimes and this might be a good fit for us.

    6. 2

Awesome idea! Gonna persuade my company CTO to buy this haha

    7. 2

How did you come to this idea? When do you think to convert idea to product? What was your analysis?

      1. 3

I had been an engineering manager for several years and kept running into the same frustration of having to spend significant time and energy monitoring pull requests and nudging people to review or merge them in order to get stuff released quickly.

When I first started building Pull Reminders I didn't expect it to be a business. I didn't do any customer development or presales... I just tried to built something minimal that would solve my own problem. I thought that I would maybe make it free and then upsell them on a different product I am working on (still in the works). But after launching and seeing that people were willing to pay real money for it, it became clear that there was a big enough opportunity for Pull Reminders to be profitable and sustainable on its own.

    8. 2

Pull Reminders is your product? That's really cool. I have a couple questions if you don't mind!

      1. How do you know those companies use it?

      2. How did you get those testimonials? Did you ever ask, and if so, how?

      1. 7
        1. Pull Reminders is SAAS so I can easily see which GitHub/Slack teams are using it

        2. I directly asked over email with language similar to the following:

I'm queuing up some updates to my website and was wondering if you'd be willing to provide a testimonial? If so, just reply with one or two sentences answering the question "what has changed for the better since using Pull Reminders?"

    9. 1

@abinoda How did U do that?

      Featured companies?

    10. 1

When you add other integrations, don't leave out an option to receive email reminders as well.

    11. 1

Off topic, but how do you make these pretty links?

      URLs automatically turn into links.

      That can't be it...

      1. 3

        Markdown

        1. 1

          Oh... Thanks!

  2. 13

I'm working on Sidemail, the most effortless emailing solution specifically designed for makers. Until the end of the June, my goal is to make a working prototype for the API and create designs for the web app.

Further, I'd like to write another article here on IH because I need to practice my English and the feedback from my last article was very motivating.

    1. 1

That's cool. I'm using mailgun for now. Do you already have idea about prices when you reach 10k/month? Can you tell more about your infrastructure?

    2. 1

This is rad!!! Nice project you have here!

      1. 1

        Thanks Cyril! ❤️

    3. 1

Nice work! I've added it to SaaShub. Who would you say are your biggest competitors?

      1. 1

        Nice! Thanks for adding it.

Well, expanding on what @NinoSkopac noted below the biggest competitors are Mailjet, Sendgrid, Mailgun, and Postmark.

    4. 1

      Nice UI.

      1. 1

        Thanks Lucas! :)

    5. 1

Yeah, how do you differ as opposed to sendgrid for example ? (I am using it, used also mailchimp).

      1. 1

It's higher level. Meaning everything from signup to API implementation is design to be as frictionless as possible. Similar to what Launchaco does in their space. The key part will play Sidemail's templates.

    6. 1

It looks nice, but why do you think there's a need for this? We already have Postmark, Sendgrid and Mailgun, and very good providers and very very easy to get started with.

      1. 1

There's absolutely a need for this. Competition is good. It raises the bar and customers benefit, isn't that right?

  3. 11

Refining my site Frontend Mentor, which I put live just over two weeks ago as a little test/side project.

    Main goals will be:

    • Trying to figure out if there is a potential business model that could work with it (always useful)

    • Do at least 10 more user tests/interviews

    • Add a couple of more advanced coding challenges with trickier layouts to the site

So I'll be taking a bit of a step back from coding and actually spend some time planning on how to take it forward from here.

    1. 1

Hey Mat, I'd imagine a site which teaches you how to do frontend would look amazing, but I am finding your site looking quite plain.

      1. 2

Hey Nino, thanks for your message. I built and launched the site within 2 days to initially help my students and also to test an idea. I'm a developer and definitely not a designer, so I'm the first to admit it doesn't look as good as I would like it to at the moment.

While you may not like how the site looks, I hope you can appreciate the quality of the design work for the challenges and how they might help people practice their front-end coding.

    2. 1

I needed this badly, full stack php dev who is more back-end leaning i wanted to try new front end challenges and this is great.

      1. 1

Awesome, glad you’re going to find it useful!

    3. 1

This is a really cool idea Matt! And a great execution so far 👍🏼

      1. 1

        Thank you @fla!

    4. 1

I can definitely see this being useful for a designer that is wanting to learn some frontend code, nice work. 👍

      1. 1

        Thanks!

    5. 1

That looks pretty good. I added a little post about it to my buffer account. I think some of my network would be interested in such a tool.

Maybe not yet, but at some point, you should post to Product Hunt. I've bet you'll do great there.

      1. 1

Thanks! Really appreciate you posting about it.

Definitely not ready for PH yet. Going to actually get a designer to make the site look decent first and refine the concept a bit more. I launched very quickly, so the site doesn't look the greatest. But when it's ready I'd love to put it on there.

        1. 2

Let me know if you want any help with that launch. Happy to vote, tweet, share with my audience (also post it if you want).

          1. 1

That's awesome. Would be a great help. I'll let you know when I get to that point.

            Thanks a lot!

            1. 1

You can contact me over email at pupeno at pupeno dot com.

              1. 1

                Great 👍

    6. 1

This looks great, I'd like to have a go at some of the more advanced ones when you launch them.

      1. 1

Thanks! Will have at least one up in the next couple of weeks

  4. 11

Last month we made good on a plan to publish our first round table discussion, and we've got many more on the way.

We're also working on features to make it easier to connect with other members of the Indie Hackers community.

    Stay tuned!

    1. 5

Please work on site performance too? It takes a lot of time to load, and it just doesn't feel snappy enough.

If I open a link in new tab and start typing and hit submit quick enough, I get a "Please log in" box, but when I close it, I am already logged in, probably because the data request was slow making client think that I was not logged in.

      1. 2

Yeah... this site has been a very powerful anti-advertisement for Firebase. It doesn't have that much traffic yet, and even when it was tiny it's always felt like I'm always waiting on spinners.

Edit: Not that I would ever be satisfied... I have LIMITLESS desire for decreased wait times online and off.

    2. 2

Looking forward to more of these round table discussions and then eventually some time of directory to sort through them to find what is most useful.

Any new forum features on the way?

    3. 1

Love the roundtable format, looking forward to more of those.

Working on building an Ethereum IDE and integrating it to our existing platform (Codegiant.io)

Happy to hear thoughts from blockchain engineers/enthusiasts :)

    1. 3

      Hey Rishi!

Off-topic, but congrats on hitting that milestone of 1000+ sign-ups 🙌

      1. 1

        Thanks a ton buddy :)

Glad to be a part of such amazing group of people in this community. Do spread the word in your network about our tool, it will really help us.

        1. 1

          You're welcome!

          I've posted the update to earlystagenews.com 🙌

          1. 1

            Cheers buddy. Thank you :)

    2. 2

What is an Ethereum IDE? I know just the basics of blockchain. This sounds intriguing.

      1. 1

The Ethereum IDE would be a Solidity compiler.

We even plan to add code coverage and code linter.

    3. 1

have you got some luck so far? interested as i was thinking to build one myself but i know i need help...

    4. 1

Why an Ethereum IDE? Are you focused on Blockchain projects?

      1. 1

An IDE for Solidity would be the right term. It would include code compiler and code linter. Yes, we've just started building developer friendly tools for blockchain :)

        1. 1

Ah. I thought it was a project management app.

    5. 1

That sounds really cool!! All my time on Crypto Twitter no one has mentioned an IDE for blockchain development

      1. 1

It is going to be useful for blockchain developers and we're trying to help these developers code better.

I am looking for help to connect with such blockchain (esp. Ethereum) developers and spread the word among them about this. Do you have any ideas on this?

        1. 1

How to find ethereum developers? I have a Twitter list of people in the cryptocurrency space some of them are ethereum developers, I'd hate to name drop but the list is only ~250 people.

          https://twitter.com/SupremeRumHam/lists/cryptocurrency1/members

          1. 2

A very useful list. Thank you :)

            1. 1

No problem!! Another idea I just had was taking a look at who Vitalik is following on Twitter and reaching out to the developers he is following. Then, look at the other CEOs with ethereum based projects and reach out to the developers they are following.

  6. 7

I’m working on https://kvdb.io a key value store as a service I launched last weekend as my latest side project. I think it has potential to become more than that if I can get the right product-market fit. In June, my goal is to add features for a paid plan and land one customer. Somehow :)

    1. 1

Good name for your service is kvaas dot com ;)

    2. 1

Might seem like a dumb question what is the service called? KV or KVDB?

      1. 2

Not dumb at all and to be honest I didn't think much about the name, so it's just kvdb :)

        1. 2

          That's a really good name

        2. -1

I think it could be interesting for serverless webapps. But how do you handle authentication and same-origin requests? Maybe, to keep it simple, It would be good to the customer to setup a reverse-proxy to handle easily both aspects, but I would need a server. Maybe you should start a blog to explain options for integration.

      1. 1

Thanks for the suggestion! You're right, I need more practical examples. Right now, the security model is based on protecting the bucket with a secret key, which you could persist in localStorage on the client. Otherwise, per-user auth might be difficult. I plan to add Lua scripts later so you could have an auth function execute on the kvdb server :)

    4. 1

Nice home page. I love me some code on a home page.

      1. 1

Thanks, I try to keep it simple :)

I'm working on marketing and sales for Dashman, a dashboard manager solution:

I'm self-funding my startup and I put pretty much all my money in it. If I don't start having some amount of sales in the next three months I'll have to go back to contracting. I'm a techie, so, sales and marketing do not come easy.

So far I made two sales, one to a county in California and one to a school. I have a few more in the pipeline but not enough.

My plan is to push for guest blog posts and within the next two months do the Product Hunt launch which I'm planning here:

    https://www.producthunt.com/my/upcoming/dashman

If anybody has any ideas how to proceed, I'd be very interested.

    1. 3

      Awesome, congrats on the sale!

      A few tips/bits of feedback:

      • Those testimonials you have hidden at the bottom of the Landing Page are worth a lot - they should be a top-3 section of the LP!

      • What does 'Who is interested in Dashman' mean? There are some big logos there, so it feels a bit sketchy to me the way you phrased it. Also, there are almost too many logos... I'm so overwhelmed by the quantity that the quality doesn't impress me as it should.

      • Get referrals from the customers you already have! Schools and counties know other schools and counties...

      • IMO you're making the classic IHer mistake of focussing on features not value for the customer. When I land on your site, it should be immediately obvious to me why I need your product. Don't make me work it out for myself.

      • Your pricing section of the LP has no button/CTA to signup and pay... that would be the logical next step. You don't want people getting distracted as they scroll further down and click away/churn...

      • Feel free to reach out to me privately if you want a quick chat about different marketing/sales things to try out. If not, I won't be offended :D

      1. 2

Thank you for such a detailed feedback.

The testimonials were for my first attempt at solving this problem, a previous app with a different name and functionality. That's why I didn't want to emphasize it too much. I'm in the process of getting new testimonials, but since you mention it, I'll speed up the process.

The "Who is interesting in Dashman" section is the companies where people that subscribed to my mailing list work at. I haven't had a lot of luck converting them though. What do you think I should do about it?

The rest of the points, you are absolutely right. I'll get to work on that. Thank you again.

        1. 2

The "Who is interesting in Dashman" section is the companies where people that subscribed to my mailing list work at. I haven't had a lot of luck converting them though. What do you think I should do about it?

Well if you're trying to convert them into paying customers, you probably don't want to splash their logo on your site before they become customers!

Why did they sign up to your mailing list? I'd try and work that out first, and then send them content which removes their objections to your product (obviously you need to work those out first).

From there, I'd try and funnel into a call/free consultation/webinar or something for the first few, just so you really, really understand your sales pitch and value proposition before going self-serve :)

          Good luck!

        2. 1

Are you sure your pricing model is right? Charging for each dashboard may be an inconvenience for a big company because the charges are low and prices change every month if you get new TVs and dump old ones etc.

          1. 1

Being sure and pricing model never go hand and hand. So, no, I'm not sure about the price model, but I did spend a lot of time thinking about it.

My hope is that companies will not run Dashboard just on their big screens but on every computer. It's a very effective tool when every screen that's been idle for a couple of minutes turns into a dashboard. With that in mind my price is not really low.

My current plan is to sell it for dedicated screens and try to upsell for all screens. If I manage to do that, the price might even go down a little. If I don't the price might go up. Just because of the economies of scales and cost of acquisition of a customer.

Regarding the prices going up and down for big companies. I can certainly make a package for them. I'm not announcing on the website because I know they'll want to negotiate the price anyway, but maybe I should.

            I have heard both statements:

            • Companies just want a monthly or yearly fixed cost.

            • Now companies want on-demand resources to spend as little as possible.

My intuition is that both are true for different companies. When I sold to government (a county) they wanted a package, so, I built it for them.

With that in mind, do you have any suggestions on pricing or pricing model?

            1. 1

You clearly understand your market and pricing better than I do so I can't really suggest anything better :)

      2. 1

        Hello Louis,

I've been working on a new page. A lot of the content is the same, but I tweaked it to focus on value instead of features. Also, new design:

        https://dashman.tech/dashman-2/

What do you think? Is that a step in the right direction?

The old one is still at https://dashman.tech for comparison.

        1. 1

Hey, I went to check it out and there was a 'no page found' error...

          1. 1

I just turned the new page into my actual page. So, you can see the new one at https://dashman.tech. The old one is gone (I can get it back if you want to check it out again).

            1. 1

I don't remember the old page too well, but this is probably an improvement.

IMO there are still some easy wins you could make:

              • Remove 'Dashman' from your tagline (underneath "Keep your team, your company, in the same page with dashboard screens"). It doesn't add anything useful to the conversation, the logo is already visible, and it takes up space/focus

              • Make the video smaller and/or put the two buttons above the video, so that there is a call to action 'above the fold'.

              • Your 'demo' and 'download' buttons look the same, so it's not immediately obvious what action you're pushing me to take. I'd focus on one action and make the other more subdued.

              • The general language is better, but "Keep your team, your company, in the same page with dashboard screens" is still not really a useful value proposition. Remember - I'm looking at your site for the first time and have no idea what you do... why do I care about keeping my company in the same page?

Imagine your customer goes to their finance guy and says "I would like $50/month to keep the company on the same page with dashboard screens."

The finance guy will be like, "why?"

And whatever the response to that is, is what you should be hammering home as your value proposition :)

              Good luck!

              1. 2

                Thank you Louis,

I'm at a loss here. If we keep pushing it, eventually, the tagline is "Make money, don't lose money.", right? That's the perfect proposition. But it doesn't explain what the product is (and it's true for every product out there).

On the other end, I can describe exactly what the product does: show websites as a screensaver. Which does nothing to sell the product because it requires too much work to see how it would be useful.

So far, no matter how hard I tried, no matter how many taglines I tested I always get the same response: that's completely wrong. I'm at a loss how to go about it.

I asked my subscribers to describe Dashman in a short sentence and this is what they said:

Dashman is a game changer for operations—greatly supporting the human role of monitoring and integrating wide ranging information, giving us more context and perspective to make the right decisions at the right time, because we’ve seen more of the right data.

Dashman lets you easily put your dashboards on stand-alone screens and in every idle computer

See how things are going instantly.

                1. 1

                  I get the struggle.

I'm also really hesitant to give you an example of a 'good' tagline for your product because I simply don't know enough about it and your customers' needs.

Dashman is a game changer for operations—greatly supporting the human role of monitoring and integrating wide ranging information, giving us more context and perspective to make the right decisions at the right time, because we’ve seen more of the right data.

For my money, your ideal tagline/value proposition is hidden somewhere in this quote. It might be something simple, like "make money. Not ill-informed decisions."

I'd probably go for something catchy and bold as a main tagline, with a short explainer sentence below.

                  For example:

                  • <h1>Reduce confusion. Increase employee productivity.</h1>

-<h5>Smart companies use our dashboard tool to reduce mistakes, increase team productivity and grow revenues.</h5>

Let me know what you think - like I said, the real tagline needs to come from your customers :)

                  1. 2

That quote you referred was what a customer gave me when I asked for a tagline. The rest of the taglines I got were pure descriptions of the product, not the benefits.

I'm thinking something along the lines of:

Make everybody make informed decisions that move your organization forward

      3. 1

Hey Louis, thank you again for the feedback. I slept on it and woke up very excited about rebuilding the landing page following your feedback. I also want to introduce a way to book demos, so, it's a good opportunity.

    2. 2

I don't have much for you (I'm on the same boat with sales not being my strong point), but I think Dashman is a great idea as it can be a pain to manage dashboards on even a single display sometimes. Good luck and keep at it!

    3. 2

Have you tried google or facebook ads? If you are certain that your product already provides enough value, I would test the waters on ads, if not I would increase my chances of learning including a 15 to 30 days free trial. In any case, I would find contracting gigs NOW, seriously. Nothing worse for a startup than the pressure to make money before it should.

      1. 1

I have done ads in the past. My cost of acquisition of a customer was around $100. Right now I don't have the funds to have any meaningful effect by doing ads.

During beta, the product is free and after the beta, there's a 30 day trial.

I'm not sure when it should make money, but if I start contracting, my productivity will plummet as well as my quality of life. This is not something do lightly. It will delay the growth of my product by maybe 10 months.

  8. 7

    I'm working on monetization.

My #1 goal for the month is to do whatever it takes in terms of medical treatment, stretching, diet, traditional remedies or even surgery to heal the repetitive stress injuries that I've suffered from for the past 2.5 years. It's probably going to take longer than a month but this is bar none my #1 issue.

    1. 3

I suffered RSI for ~2 years to the point I had continuous strain on my arms. Getting a nice mechanical keyboard, throwing away the Apple mouse and building a more relaxed environment were all good things I did. But I still suffered as most of it was stress-related.

One thing saved me: I read a blog post that pointed to the book "The Mindbody Prescription: Healing the Body, Healing the Pain".

I got 50% less pain right after reading (and believing in) the concepts it explains.

Now 11 months after reading that book I barely have issues even if I stay like 10 hours at the computer typing every day.

Maybe you tried that already, but if you didn't - do it.

    2. 2

I'm sorry to hear that. I hope you get better soon. I've had some RSI at some point and it was hard to find anyone who even understood what was going on. I tried all sort of different keyboards, including the Data Hand. In the end I settled for a Kinesis Advantage (Contour) and I have three... two in storage just in case.

I think working out, losing weight, getting a stand up desk, etc. they all helped. Oh, and reducing stress.

      1. 1

Thanks. I have the kinesis advantage 2 and it's been a huge, huge help. Weight training may have contributed to some of the initial damage (I was pretty into powerlifting a few years back), but running always makes me feel a bit better. Stress is a tough one... It's a bit of a viscous cycle.

        1. 2

I really wish they would make a split kinesis with adjustable angles. I have asked them a few times for that keyboard. That would be the perfect keyboard to me. And yes, I have considered butchering two Kinesis to make a single split one (you can't from a single one).

If it helps, I was in terrible condition one and the stress was likely a factor. Right now I'm in a lot of stress as well although it's a different one (startup instead of relationship) and I also gained a lot of weight. Thankfully the pain didn't come back. I'm just sharing a hopeful story, trying to spread hope that things can get better.

I'm growing out www.launchfactory.io . Collecting software tools and solutions to help other startups grow.

I recently bought jobsvienna.at and will look into building out a job board.

    Have fun building all!

    1. 2

I really like launchfactory, and have filled out the interview form.

      Keep up the good work.

    2. 2

Super useful website (and beautiful UI too!). Just sent a submission for my company Palar Support =)

      1. 1

Cheers Gabriel, will take a look!

    3. 2

Great job with Launch Factory 👍 Really useful resource!

      1. 1

Thanks a lot, really appreciate it. Will be expanding and growing it. :)

    4. 2

      Hello from Linz :D

      1. 1

Awesome! Let's get in touch if you're ever in Wien! Feel free to reach out on my profile

    5. 1
      1. Is it moderated / are tools people submit reviewed before they're shown? I'm asking because Upwork (a freelancing website) is listed on the Communications page, which seems weird to me.

      2. What happens if I submit my project via https://www.launchfactory.io/submit? Does someone insert it into different categories, depending on what it is? (or the impression they get from the 15 words description?) What about the images — I see all tools have images, looks like screenshots. Are they auto generated? (homepage snapshot?)

Idea: Clarify on the website what /submit does and how it works :- )

      1. I like this idea :- ) I was going to have a look at the community, maybe people recommend softw to each other ... and I didn't, because I don't have Telegram installed, I usually don't click past Slack & Telegram login screens (Telegram = lots of pages to click through and now it wants my phone number, for the web app). If you have time, do you have any thoughts about if https://www.talkyard.io could be a good fit for Launchfactory's community? (I'm developing it)

      2. Would be interesting if there was a way to see how many were using each tool, and how popular it was. (What if there was a way to let IndieHackers or HackerNews people with karma above X indicate what things they're using? karma > X = less risk for fake votes?)

    6. 1

Glad to see so much creativity and productivity coming from my hometown Vienna. Greetings from Hamburg, have a successful June!

(oh, and I added my project, https://FaviconKit.com)

    7. 1

Hi @tohmasch! I bookmarked the launchfactory to check it out later!

If you need help with the job board, we have a project in our freezer that can provide a base for your site maybe (check jobcastr.com).

  10. 7

Just launched Stakk.co which is a curated list of tutorials for non-techs to build websites and apps. Still a lot of work to do and a long list of ideas. This month I want to continue to introduce new features to help users get started building their dream app without code.

    1. 2

A fellow Bubbler! Stakk looks great, glad to see you spreading it in other, non-Bubble-forum communities

    2. 1

How long did it take you to build on Bubble? Is it an easy process?

      1. 2

Yes, Bubble is amazing! I can get almost any MVP built in a weekend. I started using Bubble a few years ago with a tutorial that rebuilt Airbnb. I took me just a few hours to get comfortable building on my own and about a month to get confident. I’m still learning new techniques every day but the core concepts are quick.

  11. 6

I will be working 30 days on Vue.js tutorials on my blog.

I've been publishing 1 tutorial every day about Web development since last January. Now I'm planning to dedicate 2 full months (June and July) to writing tutorials exclusively on Vue.js, covering the basics first, then more advanced things, and hands-on tutorials.

In addition to the website general newsletter, I'm building an email list exclusively for this topic. People coming from search engines on my Vue.js tutorials will have a nice call to action to join the list and I'll send out lots of free content during those 2 months.

    In 8 days I got 70 signups, I think it's a positive sign.

On the side I'll be making an online course on Teachable, which will have even more content, and even more practical tutorials, including video screencasts.

The dream goal is to get 500 signups by the end of July, when I'll launch the course, but this is something for What are you working on this month? (July 2018). In the meantime, head down and 30 tutorials on the way.

    1. 1

How do you come up with Vue topics to write about? How do you pick and choose among those topics, and feel okay certain you do cover things people are actually interested in :- )

Maybe add a signup email field & btn directly on the homepage/topic list?: https://flaviocopes.com/ below the "Older posts" btn at the bottom. And mabye also [a Subscribe btn that scrolls down to the email field at the bottom] below "One tutorial per day" at the top?

Maybe it'd be useful for the visitors, if they could ask questions about the tutorials? If that sounds interesting, you could have a look at: https://www.talkyard.io/blog-comments (open source blog comments, like Disqus but no ads etc. Demo. I'm developing it)

      1. 2

Great questions! I am basically learning Vue as I go. I think that when you already know a topic, it's hard to be in the shoes of someone that needs to learn it. There is a sweet spot where you remember what was like when you didn't know something, and you just learned it. I try to stay in that spot while I'm writing a tutorial. And slowly moving towards more advanced topics.

The homepage is not one of the most visited pages, it only gets 5% of the visits. People come into single posts rather than directly to the homepage, so I didn't give it much attention, but you have a point 👍🏼.

Talkyard looks good! I think there's lots of space for such a system for static sites.

I gave a try to https://utteranc.es/ for comments a few weeks ago. It's integrated with GitHub, which makes it perfect for a developers audience. It's pretty good!

But I removed it as I didn't get as many comments as I thought, and I'd rather have no comments at all than 99% of posts without any comment. I find people ask me questions via Twitter, which I find it's a quite good medium for such interaction.

        1. 1

Interesting way to get ideas about what to write about :- ) and that there're sometimes benefits in ... not knowing things.

Ok, interesting to know about Utteranc.es. It requires a permission: Enable you to trigger actions on GitHub from within utterances that I don't totally understand what it is, and makes me wonder if Utterances will be able to do some GitHub things on my behalf, ... which made me avoid posting a test comment on the Utterance demo page, and I was wondering why Uttereance needs it. ... Aha, eventually I understand, when I read more about how U. works: "users must authorize the utterances app to post on their behalf".

Anyway I too have gotten the impression that people rarely post blog comments, ... instead it's places like IndieHacers and Twitter etc that gets all attention. Maybe gives a better impression, to not show comments at all. At the same time, a bit sad that questions & discussions in a way get lost, when they happen on Twitter etc, and those who find the blog posts 1 year later, then won't know about those conversations. ... If there was a way to find and link to all Twitter discussions, all IndieHacker, Reddit, HN, etc discussions about the blog post ... & show the discussion topic titles (to slightly better understand how the blog post was perceived, over at that community)

    2. 1

That sounds awesome -- a new Vue tutorial every day! Where do I sign up for your email list? Couldn't find it, or the abovementioned CTA

      1. 1

Thanks Joe, you can jump in the list on https://flaviocopes.com/course/vue/ (there is a ConvertKit email signup form there)

        1. 1

          Already did :) WTG

    3. 1

Wow, you're setting quite a pace there. Are you sharing/promoting your articles somewhere?

      Good luck, keep us updated.

      1. 1

Beside Twitter, I share ~4 posts every month on Medium publications. FreeCodeCamp and HackerNoon are so kind to accept some of my submissions. Of course most of those visitors stay on Medium, but someone comes to the site as well through links.

I sometimes share a post on a relevant subreddit, but most of the visits come from Google.

Organic traffic has been growing since I started posting consistently, hopefully it will continue to grow.

I've been part of the core team of Grav 🚀 (https://getgrav.org) for 2 years (until last July), but I'm not the original creator - it was Andy Miller.

I joined the team about 1 year after it was released.

  12. 6

Working on https://waterdeep.io/, which offers quick access to any script, dotfile, template that you may need as a developer.

I'm trying to figure out distribution while also keep improving the service by making links to files shareable and creating a CLI

    1. 2

Nice idea! Are you thinking about a command line client? I love the idea of maintain dotfiles and editor configurations but I can't afford with the annoying of keep them synced across my machines(home and work notebooks) with custom scripts. :)

      1. 1

Yes! I'll be either building it or releasing public docs for the API so that the community can have access to build what they wish to see around this service!

    2. 2

How is it different from creating a GitHub repo for one's dotfiles?

Hmm are people supposed to share dotfiles with each other, co-creating dotfiles somehow? I'm thinking usually dotfiles are project specific, hard to co-created between different projects?

      1. 1

        Good questions!

It's a very bare bone up to now, the vision is to have a central place for really fast access to scripts and text files that any dev might need.

Hmm are people supposed to share dotfiles with each other, co-creating dotfiles somehow?

If you have them stored there's a link to the raw file of the dotfile you have you can share with others, also I'll be working on a public URL that is also easier to share and renders on the website since as of now the link I offer just points to the raw file.

I'm thinking usually dotfiles are project specific, hard to co-created between different projects?

True, they are project specific, yet for me I'd like to have a central place to have one file for each of the following: bash aliases, eslint config, prettier config, vim config. And probably other files that I'm not currently thinking about.

Would love to hear more feedback you might have!

        1. 2

Aha, now when you mention Vim config, and Bash aliases, ... and I start thinking about IDE config, I a bit better understand how this can be useful. I probably started creating my Vim config, by copying someone else's. And if there was a place somewhere, where I could have looked at lots of Git configs, and picked the for me "best" one, that might have made it a little bit quicker to get started with Vim. ... Now I have my Vim config (dotfiles & all plugins & config) in a Git repo. (Maybe in the distant future, Git support could make sense for you to add?)

  13. 5

This month, I am working on two projects.

    One is https://monitorcertificates.com/

It's a SSL certificate monitoring service.

I added a bunch of functionality last month, including detecting if the certificate is revoked, not signed properly, has correct host names, etc. Also changed the theme of the app so it doesn't look like a stock bootstrap app.

This month, I want to add more features for receiving notifications and 2 more paid customers at least.

Second is an open source project - https://github.com/indusbit/subsdash

It's a recurring revenue dashboard, which you integrate by making API calls to the service. You'll be able to host it yourself, or sign up and let us do the hosting.

This month, I hope to reach v0.0.1, i.e. add all the basic functionalities to calculate MRR, churn, net revenue.

Right now, the project is 3 days old, so you won't get any value out of it.

    Thanks!

    1. 1

CertsMonitor looks nice! I remember I was going to launch something in this space a few years ago when there weren’t many competitors and now there are a ton. How do you plan to differentiate from the rest?

      1. 1

Straight forward, ease of use, focused set of features, and availability on variety of communication platforms.

For example, most of our competitors provide a slack integration, just like us. But we've integrated with Atlassian's Stride as well, making us defacto choice for their users. :)

    2. 1

Sounds awesome - I just need to launch something now to use it on! :)

      1. 1

        Hahaha, which one? :)

    3. 1

      These projects look cool!

  14. 4

I just finished a chrome extension for 10words to discover new projects in every new tab. Going to finish testing, publish a firefox version, and start marketing 10words. Building time is almost over - then the hard part begins...

    1. 1

10words is really neat, I love the idea (jealous a didn't got it ;) ). Good luck with it!

    2. 1

Yup haha for all of the hours and late nights we put in coding and building, the marketing/selling is definitely the hard part. Keep at it!

  15. 4

I'm working on a pricing page for HTTP Toolkit.

I asked for feedback on the landing page in a bunch of places (and got some good early signups!), and it was the number one request (who's this aimed at and can I afford it?), so I'm going to hit that and a couple of tiny high-profile points this weekend, and start pushing it by Monday.

  16. 4

I'm working on Palar Support (https://palar.support) which provides on-demand technical support for startups and agencies.

My biggest goal for June will be to fully restructure our pricing for new customers.

We currently offer elastic pricing for non-enterprise customers (https://palar.support/#pricing), but this was not very cost-effective (there are customers paying only $20 a month) and it didn't improve our sign ups by much.

  17. 4

Yesterday I released a Chrome Extension called Swabbie which helps streamline/automate some LinkedIn Sales Navigator workflows. Here's a brief visual walkthrough.

I've gotten a dozen or so sales reps to try it out so far, getting great feedback! Aiming to get the first paying customer by the end of the month

    1. 1

      Cool product!

Just FYI, the swabbie.io link isn't working for me. Says cannot be found.

Keep getting it in front of customers!

      1. 1

        @warent link still not working

  18. 3

Taskade (https://taskade.com) — a new team productivity app for lists, notes, and chat. We just launched a big update this week. Hope you will give it a try, I'd love to hear any suggestions!

    💻Web App: https://taskade.com

    🍎iPhone: https://apple.co/2peipg0

    🤖Android: https://goo.gl/76Nogw

    1. 2

      Cute design

      1. 1

        Thanks

    2. 2

This looks promising, good job! Will try it.

      1. 1

        Thanks!

    3. 2

I really like how simple and effective your app looks.

Did you use any kind of third-party service for chat or did you roll your own? Curious if you had any issues with that.

      1. 1

We rolled out our own for chat. For user feedback, we are using Drift.

    4. 2

Hi @johnxie. Been using Taskade already a long time. Great to see you here :)

      1. 2

Great to hear! Open to any suggestions or feedback.

  19. 3

I'll be working on Early-stage News (earlystagenews.com) and Triviahood (https://triviahood.carrd.co)

I redesigned Early-stage News today (check it out). In the coming days, I'll write a blog story, reach out to makers and submit EN to startup-discovery platforms.

As for Triviahood, I'll invite 10 players to the private beta and gather feedback

    1. 1

Love the super-short format of Early-Stage-News!

      1. 1

        Thank you :)

    2. 1

Totally love super short format of earlystagenews.com stories, @Adith!

Earlystagenews is a wonderful use case for Favicon Kit: each story would show the startup’s actual icon to give it an extra individual touch and keep the story brief & simple at the same time.

Would you consider adding icons, Adith? I’d be happy to help with that!

  20. 3

I have no links to share (sad face)

    1. I'm working on finally releasing my free ebook on B2B SaaS Marketing on my website (no email required). It's like 40k+ words and is taking me a lot longer to edit than I hoped. Hoping to have it done in the next two weeks!

    2. Trying to finish my personal site as well. I want to start blogging and giving out info for free just to share my thoughts on B2B SaaS Marketing. Blogs are the next resume, and I hope to build an audience to share with.

    3. Thinking about creating a free course on B2B SaaS Marketing based on my book. Any interest from people who need guidance getting first customers, blogging, SEO, ads, brand messaging?

    1. 1

Good luck with the ebook release! :) Is your site live yet?

      1. 1

It is but it's not finished yet 😅 feel free to take a look and hop on my newsletter list if interested tho 👉 coreyhaines.co

        1. 1

Looks good even though it's not finished yet. Just one thing. After the site loads, it shows a section with "P.S. Can I send you an email?". I find it pretty disorienting. Maybe put the signup form at the top of the page? That's a common thing.

          1. 1

Yes! I have no idea why it’s doing that. Thanks for confirming that. 👍

  21. 3

Our team is working on v1.5 of Artova.com. We've having fun exploring some image recognition and color analysis to improve artwork recommendations.

    1. 1

Cool site. How do you do art recommendations right now?

      1. 2

We have a third-party app which tries to smartly suggestion them, but it's more based on customer browsing patterns

  22. 3

5 months in, I did a 2C service - kmppp.com in January, a mailing list with close to 600 subscribers in February, a 2B service - csvlint.com in March, a passion project (movie related push notification service, which turned out to be a total failure) in April, and a marketing attempt (my last post :) in May.

Next, I'm planning to double down on csvlint.com as Sébastien suggested, and also start preparing my hands-on online course on building production quality web services / apps using Serverless stack, they'll surely keep me busy for the summer to come. XD

    1. 1

      Very interesting projects!

  23. 2

I recently finished http://zweicoder.gitlab.io/songbird over a few weekends to scratch my own itch.

Songbird lets you create smart Spotify playlists that constantly update with your song collection / listening behavior. Now I no longer have to maintain my playlists as I add more songs :)

100% free and no real plans for monetization now though so this is more for my own learning & itch

    1. 1

Nice tool & very well executed - thanks!

  24. 2

I'm working on PDFShift - an online API to convert any HTML documents to PDF. My objectives are to grow it this month, and get many users, ensure everything is working fine, and prepare for a more important growth for the next months.

  25. 2

Hello mates, I'm working on https://www.saashub.com (SaaSHub) - a software marketplace with a focus on alternatives. It helps you find alternatives to most of the SaaS software out there. Also, if you work on a software product yourself, you can verify it, and it will receive more prominent exposure.

    1. 2

Nice project! I just send our project Getvaultapp.com over there to test ;-)

Small note: I was entering the description field and headed back to 'alternatives'. Forgot to click the save button and all data were gone. Maybe you can put that input on the same page?

      1. 1

Thanks. Yeah, I can see that could be a UX issue. I don't want to make that page more complex though. I will further think on it.

  26. 2

I’ll be working on Favicon Kit, a service that lets you easily get and embed the Favicon for any URL.

Favicon Kit made it to #2 on Show HN this week, which was a great start and gave me very good feedback and insights.

My family is gone this weekend, so I'll be

    • fixing one specific bug

    • writing documentation

    • adding a new endpoint

For the remaining month of June, I want to find & write about good use cases.

I'd be happy to connect with other Indie Hackers here & help them integrate Favicons in their own products!

    Happy hacking everyone!

    1. 2

This sounds like a great idea, I'll check this out!

Will you have any API at all? We're developing a brand asset management tool which is designed around being fast and efficient and it'd be great if brand owners could use it to store their Favicons.

Plus are you putting a Favicon of your own on? Seemed odd that you didn't have one!

      1. 1

asset management tool which is designed around being fast and efficient and it'd be great if brand owners could use it to store their Favicons

That’s how it actually should be, yes.

Will you have any API at all?

Well yes, at this point there is an API to get favicons for domains. It scrapes them. I like your idea of being able to post one though.

are you putting a Favicon of your own on?

I’m still looking for a designer to create a great icon :)

        1. 1

Maybe there could be some way we can link up? We'd love our product to be a combination of others (obviously credited!) that brings together more companies.

And maybe you could play on the icon that is used when you don't have a favicon, but style it out. Maybe animated so it changes from the plain/default to something more styled

          Just an idea!

  27. 2

Dipping my toe into the world of frontend work via Bridge.NET (been doing mostly C# backend and desktop work in the past).

My test project is a flagrant ripoff of Patio11's business model:

    http://www.wordfindmaker.com/

My wife and her family are all high school humanities+LOTE teachers, and they were after something simple and easy to use for generating exercises. And I'm a great fan of Patio and am kind of curious to see if I can learn something by repeating his experiment.

Also, last night I built a sandbox (also using Bridge.NET) and implemented cellular automata and when you combine automata with sand physics the result is... weird. It generates Sierpinski triangles? (???)

    http://www.stupidsandgame.com/

Anyway. Poking around and experimenting. Best way to learn.

  28. 2

I'm working on http://timecoach.me which is a personalised time coach, ran by a human and not a bot(!). So very little coding but more focus on how to market and deliver a good coaching experience.

  29. 2

    I am working on http://indiestudies.com/

which allows and help students of high shool and college to post their homework problems and doubts and get a video solution directly delivered to their gate.

    .

Its slightly different from tthe online tutorials as they would not hve to now spend time online with online video chatting with tutors.

    .

But I am getting problems in marketting to students. How to get the customers.

    .

Your valueable feedack is higly appreciated.

    Thanks!

  30. 2

I am working on https://read2me.online/, a TTS service, same old same old for 18 months now, trying to make it profitable and failing miserably.

Last month I migrated from AWS to Google Cloud for speech synthesis, raised the prices and now I'm gonna try out some Google Adwords campaigns (e.g. "Premium website articles to audio service - starting at €5" and "Turn your manuscript into audiobooks - starting at €5").

I'll keep you updated on how bad my ROI will be.

    1. 2

      Hey Nino,

read2me could be a great companion to services like Pocket, where users save their articles for later.

I would love to be able to save articles and then listen to them in the car on my commute.

Have you considered integrating read2me with other apps?

      1. 1

I surely have, and I have Pocket integration on my roadmap, but I reckon that for the time being it's not terribly hard to copy/paste a link from Pocket and put it into R2M.

    2. 1

I really like this idea! Why do you think you are failing miserably? @ninoskopac

      1. 1

Hey Pmox, simply because I'm unable to monetize.

  31. 2

I got into bladesmithing earlier this year and now I'm starting my own custom knifemaking business. My goal is to create a simple website that shows the portfolio of knives I've made and to order a custom knife.

I looked at using checkoutpage.co for the checkout process but it doesn't have any customization.

I'm still deciding what technologies to use for the website. I don't want to spend a lot of time on it as the whole point of learning bladesmithing is to do something non-tech related which I do for my day job.

I've thought of using Jekyll and using something like Checkout Page to process orders, but customers need to be able to customize steel choice, handle material, etc...

The alternative is to make a more advanced website using Node and React. Any suggestions on technologies or payment systems that might fit my needs?

You can visit Langston Knives at www.facebook.com/LangstonKnives.

    1. 1

If your point is to do non-tech related, have you tried Shopify or some other ready-made e-commerce software?

  32. 2

I'm working on https://getvaultapp.com, a password and account manager for freelancers, agencies or just people with a lot of client information they need to collect and maintain. We have testers on the project for about 2 weeks now. In June I will be concentrating on:

    1. rolling out some necessary updates (see our blogpost)

    2. getting paid users

    3. find out how I will get paid users :o)

    4. make at least 2 blogposts

    5. rewrite and redesign the homepage

    1. 2

I would try making a free tier with limitations (e.g. share with only 5 people), have people use it a bit then start paying when they hit the limits (they'll happily pay then). PS - one of my favorite bands is from antwerp!

      1. 1

We listened to your feedback :-) we now have a free forever plan with a limit on the number of clients. We didn't want to limit the sharing, as this is a way to have word of mouth.

      2. 1

@aloukissas : Really?! Which one is it?

Thanks for your comment, btw! Really appreciate it.

We were thinking about a free tier too, but more in terms of adding a limit on the number of clients they can enter. But we're a bit scared that this will take ages for users to convert to a paid plan.

        1. 1

I had a couple deus posters in my bedroom as a teenager :)

    2. 1

Looks good! Could you please share more about your security and how you handle storage of sensitive data, is everything encrypted client-side, etc. This is super important and you should to have a page on your website that describes this.

      1. 1

        Hi @ammmir !

Good question. We use a couple of security methods for the data to be safe:

        • First level: we cover the basics on user level with Google 2FA and SSL, as most of the hacks come from hacked personal computers.

        • Second level: all sensitive data is stored on server side, with an encryption and a secret hash. So when there is a breach, the information is useless.

Furthermore we're in discussion with a security dev team to optimize the above levels and program even more safety in the tool, like the integration of a local token. But this gets complex when you work on multiple devices.

    3. 1

      Hey @glennvc , cool project, congrats :)

Just signed up to check it out. I think customers with many different URLs would appreciate seeing a web site’s icon next to the URL to make navigating and finding URLs easier. That’s super simple with Favicon Kit (I’m the maker), and I’d be happy to help with any questions.

      Have a successful June!

      1. 1

        Thanks, Andreas!

We're planning to install the app behind the domain, in stead of a subdomain. So https://getvaultapp.com/o/ for example. You can remember that url way easier than app.getvaultapp.com. That's a lot of 'app', isn't it ;-)

Normally we have installed the favicon. At my side it's showing up. What are you seeing?

BTW: your tool is super awesome for testimonials etc! Great idea!

        1. 1

          Thanks @glennvc !

When I said "Favicon" I thought that adding an icon next to URLs within the app would be helpful, like in this Screenshot

          Does that make sense? :)

          1. 2

That makes absolutely sense! I've put your idea directly on the roadmap: https://getvaultapp.com/roadmap/

            I need a party-emoticon for this ;-)

  33. 2

I'm working on devsalary.com, a tool to help developers analyze and compare salary information from thousands of startups.

The short term goal is to improve search and filter functionality, as well as to collect more data and work on new and interesting ways to share and analyze it.

    1. 1

      Cool idea! No EU? :(

      1. 1

        There is actually!

Sorry if it's a little unclear, the location dropdown right now is ordered A-Z United States and then A-Z international which I know is a little weird, I'll probably change it soon to an autocomplete field to make it easier.

Here's an example of search results for software engineers in munich for example though: https://devsalary.com/salaries?utf8=✓&category=software-engineer&location=munich

        1. 1

Ah, thanks! Yeah I scrolled until Z but didn't see where the scrollbar was. So I didn't end up scrolling until the end. Autocomplete would definitely help.

  34. 2

I'm a designer with limited coding experience working on a job board for non-coding roles at top tech firms called No Coding Required. I'm also trying to build this board without writing a single line of code! To accomplish this I'm using tools like Webflow, Typeform, Zapier, Parabola, and Stripe. You can watch my progress as it takes shape at:

    http://no-coding-required.webflow.io/

My biggest goal for June is to get a working MVP ready to launch and Indie Hackers was my inspiration to just go out and build something. Thank you to everyone who makes this community awesome!

  35. 2

Talkyard which is open source software for mini communities. Question-Answers, and also open-ended discussions and chat. — What can I change, to make it work fine for say a Q&A forum for your own project?

And Usability Testing Exchange — where you can get your website usability tested.

  36. 2

I will launch soon the first product of my startup, a mobile website builder (yeah, another one :). It's mobile-only. No web version will be developed. This on-the-go website builder can potentially create a new category of web workers: web-mobile-developers (I hope). I think it will be a great tool for digital nomads to make full websites for clients directly in their premises, without the computer (travel light). Very excited to launch in two weeks.

    1. 1

Interesting approach, have you validat it?

  37. 2

I got a little busy with work over the last couple of months, which affected my resolution to write weekly for my blog (https://sighack.com/). However, I managed to get back into the groove last weekend and wrote up an article that garnered some positive feedback :-)

    https://sighack.com/post/cohen-sutherland-line-clipping-algorithm

I'm going to continue writing and building up an audience this month. I love working on this stuff so for the first time I feel like I can keep it going for a longer timespan!

  38. 2

I am working on my firs App "Insight Scanner - best source of useful tips". And it would be great if you could help me by answering 5 simple questions https://docs.google.com/forms/d/178FfJTqy_yYzLnf3UeTHmylAUFGJ52kMjsUWxQOD__I

  39. 2

Working on Wat.app, a meme-gen game via SMS for friends (don't bother checking out the URL, it's a placeholder). Once the beta is out I'll repost here!

My daily work is enterprise dev tools, so working on a game is refreshing :)

  40. 2

Here a marketer working on http://immersejobs.com/ for AR/VR jobs. Looking to integrate payments and automation scripts for job-posting. Not a coder but I want to learn! In the next month I want to:

    • Automate the site

    • Get my first partner (VR/AR Association)

    • Create our immersive community at Telegram

    1. 1

      Hey Felipe,

We have similar projects we should chat :)

      1. 1

Sure! Following me on Twitter @felipemolinap

  41. 2

Yesterday I launched the new version of https://themelatte.com that is pivoting towards a productized service. My goals for this month are:

    • Start getting feedback on the plans and what tasks are included

    • Start creating content for marketing

    • Tweak backend flows for completing tasks

    1. 1

      nice!

  42. 2

Still working in https://erudito.io. It's a gamified iOS keyboard, where you get points/score writing.

    1. 2

Such a cool idea! Especially love this for kids - if they're gonna use their phone, why not incentivize them to write well :)

      1. 1

        thank you Felix!

Erudito, started as a joke among my friends, one of the goals is "make writing great again", haha

  43. 2

I'm working on Idiopage which personalises websites to match the visitor.

I hit a productivity slump last month while dealing with some non-IH things so I want to maintain my focus throughout June and start acquiring some paying users. Many more cold emails to write this month along with starting a blog.

    1. 1

Love the idea what tech stack are you using to make this possible?

      1. 2

Node.js/Express and EJS templates on the backend w/ Postgres database. Some VueJS sprinkled in on the front when I need it and I use Redux for the editor. It would be better as a React app but it would have slowed me down too much.

The "snippets" are hosted on S3. The main difficulty there is balancing load times while making sure there is no "flash of original content" when personalisation changes are made.

Overall, it's mostly just a lot of vanilla JS.

        1. 1

Awesome thanks! I'm just very nosy :p

    2. 1

Do you display pricing information anywhere? Some sketchy websites show prices after you have created an account to collect your email first.

      1. 1

It's free to use right now while I test and iron things out so I removed the pricing page temporarily. I should make that clear.

  44. 2

Working on the backend logic for neighbors.xyz, a kismet style networking site for Subreddits and Indiehackers (initially)

    1. 1

      What is kismet style?

      1. 1

Sorry, meant to link that to http://findkismet.com/. Kismet is a site that connects Hacker News users via introduction emails.

        1. 1

Oh. That looks interesting. You haven't launched yet, right? Do you keep a mailing list for when you do? I'd like to be on it.

  45. 2

I am working on https://listninja.co and have about 10 beta early access customers on board using it to get insights from their mailing lists (basically, who are my subscribers, what are they interested in?) so they can better target their content.

I plan on rolling it out to more early access users (and other Indie Hackers!) with mailing lists on MailChimp, Drip or MailerLite. I also plan on working on a more formal long-term marketing plan and integration roadmap.

I am also dedicating a portion of my time to squashing the bugs that inevitably come with a brand new product launch :)

    1. 1

I'm giving it a try. So far I have that feedback:

      • LastPass doesn't recognize your signup form as a signup form (probably because there's only one password field, I'm not sure if there's a way around it).

      • When there's only one list in Dashman you could preselect it.

      • At the end of the import procedure it went back to "Select a list to import and track". Maybe the intention here is to add one by one all the lists (why not checkboxes then?), but there's no message about successfully importing my list and I only have one list, so, there's nothing for me to do at that point.

      • I clicked Go Back and it showed me the buttons to import the list, then quickly went back to Importing your mailing list again and now it's saying: 1000 / 950 importing.

I think this is a matter of polishing the user experience.

On the list of top influencers, I think it would be good to see why they are an influencer. Is it followers on Twitter? something else?

The price seems high to me, being a self-funded, poor, startup with 950 subscribers. But if you get people to pay for it, my feedback here is moot, I'm not representative of a good customer.

I really like the presentation after the import. It looks really neat. Playing around with the keywords from the three clouds on top, I can see a lot of interesting information. I can really see how there's a lot of value here.

      1. 1

        @pupeno

First off, thank you so much for giving it a spin! Your observations are truly truly appreciated and I'll get on implementing those changes because I happen to agree! The forward back to the list selection screen is obviously a bug and I'll see if I can sort that out this weekend, I'll also add some indicators as to import success and progress, and fix that progress overage during the import. It's a bug with the batch server importing 50 subscribers at a time. Yay math!

Regarding the pricing, I can probably understand that. A $90 charge on a list of 950 subscribers for analytics that could allow you to tailor content to your audience might seem high, but I'm looking to actually add more things to the product that increase the value add as I have no intention of selling product for a few bucks a month. I say this so transparently and openly because it's early and the pricing model is a bit in flux.

Thank you so much for the kind words! Dashman looks absolutely gorgeous, and my hat's off to you :)

        1. 1

If anything, take my comment about pricing as me wanting to use your product without being able to afford it. You really don't want a self-funded poor startup to afford you anyway ;)

Looking forward to future developments. I wish you a lot of success.

  46. 2

I fixed my biggest issue for alertsforcc.com which was getting the push notifications to work last month, after 4 months.

This month I have a small issue I have to fix, might be able to finish it today. Along with promoting the site on many small but related websites and adding a design

    1. 3

      If you add:

      list-style: none

to the list items that are centered, you won't get the little dots for each of them (all the way to the left of the page). I think those dots can be confusing and distracting.

      1. 2

Wow!! Thank you!! I couldn't find how to get rid of them!!

        1. 2

          Happy to help.

    2. 2

      needs to be more readable.

      1. 1

I added some space, do you think it's enough?

        1. 1

add numbers, add a header "get started". A how it works section. Increase text size. Add some icons. Then your done. It will look less like scam from the millennium.

          1. 1

            Cool thanks!!

      2. 1

The text? Ya I can see that, it's a wall of text. I'll see if I can add some space right now. Thanks!! I didn't see that

  47. 2

Only two more features to do for my personal finance webapp (currently on an old domain, plasticpilots.com as I don't have a real good name yet). Then some polish, a landing page and July will be the perfect month to find the first customers :D

I did write a blog post on a template processor that finished for the app last month. Anyone using Ruby on Rails and interested in DSL might find it interesting.

User can join their favorite community to post, vote and comment just like IH.

My Goal for June is to have 100 users and 1 paid user.

    1. 1

      Hi!

First, I absolutely love the name. It perfectly encapsulates "share knowledge and learn about different cultures". But when I landed on your page, I saw a lot of communities which are based in technology. I think there might be a disconnect between "communities of culture" and "communities of technology".

      1. 1

Thank you, you are the first person that tell me the name is good! I'm not English native speaker.

Yes you're absolutely right about the confusion, currently communities are sorted by recently posts count, and there are not too much users, It's still in development. I might just hard code some communities like Japanese or Germany, thank you for your feedback!

  65. 1

I'm working on wpplugincheck.com where I post in-depth reviews of Wordpress plugins.
