I'm exploring a new product and wanted to crowdsource and understand the problem a little bit better. I'm a little confused on why Kickstarter doesn't allow software product and why Saas products do so poorly on Indiegogo. I have some assumptions but would love to hear from others. I'm new to the Indiehacker community so thank you for any and all advice, criticism and comments!
Crowdsourcing works well for projects with a limited timeline and defined scope of what done looks like. That's why physical products, albums or movies do well on Kickstarter. Crowdsourcing doesn't work well for on-going campaigns or partial features in a larger project.
However, you can do software on Kickstarter. There have been successful software Kickstarter projects like Ghost and FontAwesome 5. https://www.kickstarter.com/discover/categories/technology/software?sort=most_funded
