Back in June, I reached out to Stripe to enquire about getting my exit feedback / retention app (Raaft.io) listed in their "Works with Stripe" app directory (https://stripe.com/works-with).
After several days , I received back a response saying that they were "working on some public guidelines around being listed and featured in the Works with Stripe gallery" and that until then submissions were closed. Major bummer as I've heard that launching on a platform can be source of some great, free publicity.
Today, Stripe made good on their promise. I received an email inviting me to join the Stripe Partner Program! Now, of course, this is open to anyone, but I thought I'd share my experience with you all.
Here is the invitation email: https://cl.ly/2z1j0g380l0D
the program is designed to help platforms, plugin builders, and extension developers like you reach more customers and optimize your integrations
As a partner you’ll get access to best practices to help you optimize and promote your integration.
Sounds great 👍 More customers, more exposure... that's what I'm here for.
Optionally, you can also choose to become a Stripe Verified Partner
Optionally, huh? 🤔 Hmmm, smells like an upsell. But to be listed on the Stripe website could still be worth it.
So, I clicked to register.
The registration button takes me to https://stripe.com/partner-program. It's clear that Stripe has taken the time to think through this program and put some serious man-power behind it. It's no invite-only listserv...
After reading the page, I realize that Raaft.io fits squarely in the EXTENSION PARTNERS group. So, let's proceed... I click BECOME A PARTNER
Here's the form you fill out to enroll: https://cl.ly/0u3a0b2y1w35
I'm then greeted with a "Welcome to the Stripe Partner Program!" and the following page: https://cl.ly/3p1P0w2T083O
Ah, here's the upsell... it seems only "Stripe Verified Partners" are listed in their directory.
As a Stripe Verified Partner, you’ll receive resources that help scale your business in exchange for building a seamless, secure, and reliable integration for our shared customers.
Ok, so they want me to build a good integration and in exchange they'll promote it. I can sign up for that. But it's going to cost me $250/yr? Well, I don't love that, but I'm certain I'll get more qualified leads by being listed in their directory than I would by spending an additional $250 on Adwords... so, what the heck.
Here's the application:
Note the presence of a coupon code... hmm... anyone know where I could grab one of those?
Registration is complete and I receive the following confirmation: https://cl.ly/3E0q0j053Y0M
Now, all I do is wait! I'll update this thread as I get further along in the process.
As an aside...
I still don't quite understand why the $250/year charge. Encouraging high-quality integrations through the enforcement of their partner requirements (https://stripe.com/docs/partners/requirements) seems to be enough of a benefit to Stripe. Also, why charge the same amount for startup with little-to-no revenue as they do for a mature service?
Did you decide to move forward with the service?
Was it helpful in terms of new users?
I was very interested in this topic, thank you very much!
The annual $250 fee is definitely a nuisance.
Good breakdown! Thank you for sharing!
