#003 - Attention to Detail and Earning Trust (1-min)

Welp, it happened.

I outreached to our first company via an acquaintance.

Here's the email I sent.

outreach email

And here's the example profile I built.

company profile v0.1

I customized every last detail in the example profile — name, logo, actual open positions, office locations, etc.

My hope is that this attention to detail will earn trust and help get our first meeting.

This morning I woke up and they had replied!

reply email to first outreach

My hope was for them to pass the word to a decision-maker there. And that's what's looks to be happening which is great.

Beyond that, they also offered to provide her perspective from an HR perspective. I'm replying back this morning to set that up.

We'll see it where this goes!

Nice. I've been always wondering this as well. How do you craft a message so even if it doesn't reach the decision maker, they forward it to the decision maker? If anyone has any tips about this, let me know.

I'd say it's an art more than a science... I think being straight about your ask is key.

Something like, "If you think this might be beneficial, could you FWD this to the correct person there?"

The "If you think this might be beneficial," gives them permission to opt out and makes the ask feel not as direct too. Hope this helps a bit!
